SDI extension approved but no continued claim form - when will EDD send it?
Hi everyone! My disability got extended for another 6 weeks and my doctor submitted all the paperwork to EDD last Wednesday. I just checked my SDI Online account and there's a message saying I need to submit a 'continued claim form' but I don't see it anywhere in my inbox or dashboard! I'm freaking out a bit because I can't afford a gap in payments right now. Do they mail these forms? Should they appear in my SDI Online account automatically? How long should I wait before I start panicking? Has anyone gone through this extension process recently? The status says 'additional information needed' but doesn't say HOW to provide this continued claim form they're asking for! 😫

they'll mail it to you. usually takes about a week after the extension is processed

•Thanks! But I'm getting really nervous because it's been 5 days already. Do you think I should try calling them or just keep waiting? I'm so worried about missing a deadline.

Same thing happened to me last month!!! The message about needing a continued claim form had me SO confused. I waited 2 weeks and nothing ever showed up in my inbox OR my mailbox. I finally called and the rep told me they were having system issues and just processed my extension without me submitting anything additional. But then 2 days AFTER I got paid, I received the form in the mail. The system is a MESS right now!!

•Oh wow, so maybe I don't even need to do anything? That's so confusing! Did you have to call multiple times to get through to someone?

The continued claim form (DE 2500A) is typically mailed to your home address about 5-7 business days after your extension is received. However, since the pandemic, EDD has been inconsistent with sending these forms. You have three options: 1. Wait another week to see if it arrives in the mail 2. Call EDD directly to request they send the form or process your extension without it 3. Download and print the form yourself from the EDD website, fill it out and mail it in Most extensions should progress automatically in the system if your doctor submitted all the correct documentation. The message you're seeing might be automated even though they don't actually need additional information from you.

•Thank you so much for this detailed response! I looked on the EDD website but couldn't find where to download the DE 2500A form. Do you happen to know where it's located? I think I'll try calling tomorrow if it doesn't arrive in the mail.

when my disability got extended back in november i never got ANY form and my payments just kept coming without me doing anything lol. i think sometimes their system just generates these messages automatically but you don't actually have to do anything... it's so random though, maybe call to be safe?

I've been through this extension process three times in the past year. Here's what typically happens: 1. Your doctor submits extension paperwork 2. EDD processes it and updates your claim (this can take 1-10 business days) 3. You'll get a continued claim form (DE 2500A) in the mail OR your payments will continue automatically The system is designed to require continued claim forms, but in practice, it's become inconsistent. About 70% of the time with extensions, the payments process automatically without additional paperwork. However, if your account says "additional information needed," I would definitely call to confirm what they're waiting for. Don't wait more than 7-10 days after seeing that message. But getting through to EDD on the phone is nearly impossible these days with regular call methods. I recently discovered a service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that got me connected to an EDD representative in under 25 minutes after weeks of failed attempts. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ?si=1hcSq3KFtCr4oAmd Worth it to get clarity on your extension status rather than waiting in uncertainty.

•This claimyr thing sounds like a scam! Why would you need to pay someone to call EDD for you??? Just keep calling yourself and you'll get through eventually. These companies prey on desperate people.

•Thank you for the detailed explanation! I'm going to try calling tomorrow. If I can't get through after a few attempts, I might try that service you mentioned. I just don't want to miss a payment because that would put me in a really tough spot financially.

My doctor extended my SDI claim twice last year. The first time, I got the continued claim form in the mail about a week after he submitted the extension. The second time, I never received any form and my payments just continued automatically. From what I've gathered, EDD has been gradually moving toward more automation with extensions, especially if they're from the same doctor for the same condition. The message you're seeing might be system-generated. That said, I wouldn't leave it to chance. Since your account specifically says "additional information needed," that suggests something needs to be addressed. I'd recommend calling EDD directly to clarify exactly what they need. Ask them: 1. What specific form or information they're waiting for 2. Whether they can send the form to your SDI Online inbox rather than mail 3. If there's a digital version you can submit online Keep checking your mail daily too. Sometimes these forms arrive without notification.

•Thanks for sharing your experience! I'll definitely call tomorrow. It's so confusing when the system is inconsistent like this. I'm glad to hear your second extension happened automatically - that gives me some hope! I'll update here once I figure out what's going on.

UPDATE: I finally got through to EDD this morning! The representative said they actually don't need any continued claim form from me after all. The message in my account was automatically generated but since my doctor submitted all the required medical documentation, my extension is being processed automatically. She said I should see the updated claim information and payment in 3-5 business days! Such a relief. Thanks everyone for your help and advice!

This is such helpful information for anyone going through the extension process! I'm currently waiting on my first SDI extension and was wondering about this exact scenario. It's reassuring to know that the system messages can be misleading and that many extensions process automatically when the doctor submits proper documentation. Thanks for sharing your experience and the final update - it really helps others who might be in the same situation!

•I'm so glad this thread exists! I'm also waiting on my first SDI extension and was getting really anxious about the whole process. Reading through everyone's experiences, especially the original poster's update, makes me feel so much better. It sounds like the key is to call if you see that "additional information needed" message, but also not to panic if the system seems confusing. Thanks to everyone who shared their stories - this community is incredibly helpful for navigating EDD's confusing system!

Just went through this exact same thing last week! My extension was approved but I kept getting that confusing "additional information needed" message too. I waited about 6 days checking my mail daily and getting more stressed each day. Finally called EDD (took forever to get through) and they told me the same thing - my doctor had submitted everything correctly and no continued claim form was actually needed. The rep explained that their system automatically generates these messages for all extensions, even when they're processing fine in the background. My payments resumed 4 days later without me having to submit anything. It's such a relief to see your update confirming this is a common issue! For anyone else reading this - definitely call if you see that message, but don't panic. The system is just poorly designed and creates unnecessary anxiety.

•This is exactly what I needed to hear! I'm going through my first extension right now and that "additional information needed" message has been giving me so much anxiety. It's crazy how EDD's system generates these confusing automated messages that don't actually reflect what's happening with your claim. Thank you for sharing your timeline - knowing that it took 4 days for your payments to resume after calling gives me a realistic expectation. I think I'll call tomorrow if I don't see any updates by then. It's so frustrating that we have to deal with this added stress when we're already dealing with disability issues!

This whole thread has been incredibly helpful! I'm currently on SDI and my doctor just submitted paperwork for my first extension yesterday. Reading everyone's experiences here, especially the original poster's journey from panic to resolution, really helps set expectations for what might happen next. It's so frustrating that EDD's system generates these misleading automated messages that cause unnecessary stress when people are already dealing with health issues. I'm going to bookmark this thread so I can reference it if I run into the same "additional information needed" message. Thanks to everyone who shared their timelines and outcomes - this kind of real-world information is so much more valuable than trying to navigate EDD's confusing website alone!

•I totally agree about bookmarking this thread! As someone who just went through this whole confusing process myself, I can't stress enough how valuable it is to have real experiences from actual people rather than trying to decode EDD's vague website information. The automated messages really are the worst part - they create so much unnecessary anxiety when you're already dealing with health issues and financial stress. It sounds like your doctor just submitted your extension paperwork, so you're probably looking at about a week before you see any updates in your account. Just remember from everyone's experiences here that if you do get that "additional information needed" message, it's likely just an automated glitch and a phone call can clear things up quickly. Wishing you a smooth extension process!

This thread is exactly what I needed to find today! I'm currently dealing with the same situation - my SDI extension was approved but I'm seeing that dreaded "additional information needed" message about a continued claim form. Reading through everyone's experiences, especially the original poster's successful resolution, has really helped calm my nerves. It's incredible how EDD's automated system creates so much unnecessary stress by generating these misleading messages when extensions are actually processing fine in the background. I'm planning to call tomorrow if nothing changes, but knowing that most people here didn't actually need to submit any additional forms gives me hope. Thanks to everyone who took the time to share their experiences and timelines - this community support makes navigating EDD's confusing system so much more manageable!
