SDI claim issues: Doctor won't use EDD portal, unsure about form submission - Help needed
I started a disability claim online but my doctor won't use the EDD portal. I have a form filled out but I'm not sure if it's the right one or how to submit it. My disability started at the beginning of April and I'm totally lost. Has anyone dealt with this before? What should I do?

I found a way to actually get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ

Sounds too good to be true. Does it really work?

Yep, it really does! I was skeptical at first too, but I was desperate. Got through in about an hour.

$20 just to talk to someone? That's ridiculous. The system is so broken 😤

I get it, but for me it was worth it. Saved me days of frustration and missed work trying to call myself.

I think it could be worth it if you're on a tight schedule. Plus, time is money!

Ugh, I feel your pain. The EDD system is a nightmare. I had a similar issue last year. Make sure you have the right form - for SDI you need the DE 2501, not the DE 2501 FC (that's for family care leave). You can probably upload it yourself on the EDD website, but double-check with them first.

Hey OP, what kind of disability if you don't mind me asking? I'm thinking about filing and wondering how complicated it's gonna be 😬

I'd rather not get into specifics, but it's a physical injury. From what I'm seeing, it's complicated no matter what 😅

Anyone else think its crazy that we have to jump through so many hoops just to get the benefits we're entitled to? The whole system needs an overhaul tbh

Totally agree. It's 2023, why can't they modernize the system?

Careful what you wish for. Last time they "modernized" it got even worse lmao

I think a modern system with proper implementation could really make a difference. Let's hope for an effective change soon.

Have you tried calling the EDD? They might be able to help you figure out which form you need and how to submit it. Good luck getting through tho, their phone lines are always jammed 🙄

Have you tried calling right when they open? I heard that's the best time to get through.

You might also want to try calling during lunch hours or right before they close. Sometimes you can get lucky then!

Here's what you need to do: 1. Make sure you have the correct form (DE 2501 for SDI, not DE 2501 FC) 2. Have your doctor fill it out completely 3. Log into your SDI Online account 4. Go to "New Claim" and select "Unable to Submit Claim Online" 5. Follow the prompts to upload the completed form If you run into issues, definitely try to get someone on the phone. The Claimyr thing mentioned above might be worth a shot if you're really stuck. Good luck! The system is a mess but hang in there 💪

Have you considered reaching out to your local state representative? Sometimes they can help cut through the red tape. Worth a shot if you're really stuck.

Great point! They are there to help and sometimes they have access to resources that we don't.

Dealing with the EDD can be overwhelming, especially when you're already coping with the challenges of a disability. Fortunately, there are several ways to navigate the system. Firstly, ensure your medical documentation is thorough and precise. Sometimes, doctors can be reluctant to use online portals, but they can provide you with hard copies that you can mail or upload yourself. Regarding the form, ensure it's the DE 2501 for SDI, as others have mentioned. For those struggling to get through via phone, the Claimyr service could be a viable option. It comes with a fee, but many find it worthwhile given the time saved. If you choose this route, weigh the cost against your urgency and available resources. Lastly, keep meticulous records of all interactions and communications with the EDD. This can be invaluable if you run into issues. While the process is cumbersome, persistence often pays off. Stay patient and remember you're not alone in this struggle.

have you tried faxing the form? sometimes old school methods work better with these dinosaur systems lol

Sometimes the old ways are the best ways! Plus, it's a good idea to get a confirmation of the fax receipt.

pro tip: keep a log of all your calls, uploads, and interactions with EDD. You never know when you might need to prove you've been trying to resolve issues. CYA always!

That's really good advice. Documentation can be a lifesaver when it comes to dealing with bureaucratic processes.
