SDI Pregnancy: How to extend leave & payment questions
Hey everyone, I'm pregnant and currently on SDI. I have a couple questions about extending my leave and payments. Does anyone know what form I need to fill out if I need to prolong my leave? Also, any info on how payments work would be super helpful. Thanks in advance!

Congrats on your pregnancy! For extending your SDI leave, you'll need to fill out the "Request for Continued Benefits" form. As for payments, they're usually bi-weekly but can vary. Hope this helps!

Thank you so much! Do you know where I can find that form? Is it on the EDD website?

Yep, you can find it on the EDD website under the SDI forms section. Just search for "Request for Continued Benefits" and it should pop right up!

I was in the same boat last year! The payments were pretty consistent for me, every two weeks like clockwork. Just make sure you certify on time to avoid any delays.

Ugh, good luck dealing with SDI. I had such a headache trying to extend my leave. The form is easy enough to find, but getting someone to actually process it? Thats a whole other story š

For real tho! The system is so broken. I swear they make it difficult on purpose š¤¬

Hey, I found a way to actually get someone on the phone! I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Check out this video: https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ

$20 just to talk to someone? That's ridiculous. The system is so messed up š¤

I get it, but for me, it was worth it to finally get my issues resolved. Time is money, ya know?

Here's a detailed breakdown of what you need to know about SDI pregnancy leave and payments: ā¢ Duration: Typically 4 weeks before your due date and 6-8 weeks after birth (longer for c-sections) ā¢ Payments: Usually 60-70% of your wages, paid bi-weekly ā¢ Extending leave: Use the "Request for Continued Benefits" form (DE 2580) ā¢ Certification: You'll need to certify your claim every two weeks ā¢ Maximum benefit: Up to 52 weeks, depending on your doctor's certification Remember, your healthcare provider needs to certify your need for extended leave. Keep all your paperwork organized and don't hesitate to follow up if you don't hear back. Good luck with your pregnancy!

Anyone else notice that the SDI website is always down when you need it most? š Pro tip: try accessing it late at night or early morning when traffic is lower.

idk if this helps, but I found that calling my local assemblymember's office actually got things moving when I was stuck with SDI issues. They have liaisons who can cut through the red tape.
