SDI: Paid service called wrong department, still can't reach disability office. Help!

So I've been trying to get through to the disability office for weeks now. I paid for a service to call them for me, but they ended up calling the wrong department! They called EDD instead of disability. I'm so frustrated because I spent money on this and still didn't get to talk to the right people. Has anyone else had trouble getting through to disability? It feels like I'm just going in circles here.

Hang in there, OP. We're all in this sinking ship together. At least the view is nice? 🚢🌅

Trying to stay positive amidst all this chaos is a real challenge, but it helps sharing with others here.

I feel ya. The whole system is rigged against us. Stay strong, OP! 💪

Thanks for the encouragement! Sometimes it's all we have to keep going.

Has anyone tried tweeting at them? Sometimes public shaming works wonders 🐦

Ooh, good idea. Maybe if enough of us do it, they'll actually do something.

Public pressure can sometimes push these departments to respond more quickly.

Maybe we should start our own disability office. With blackjack. And hookers. 🃏👯‍♀️

I'm in the same boat. Been trying to get my SDI sorted for weeks. The whole system needs an overhaul.

It really does. Maybe it's time to petition for change or bring this issue to public attention.

Have you tried faxing your documents? Sometimes the old school methods work better with these dinosaur systems 📠

StarStrider

Faxing? What year is it? 😂 But seriously, I might give that a try. Thanks for the tip!

I know it sounds old-fashioned, but sometimes these places still rely on faxes for fast processing.

I found a way to actually get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ

Sounds too good to be true. Does it really work?

It worked for me! Saved me hours of frustration.

$20 just to talk to someone? The system is so broken 🤦‍♂️

I tried Claimyr, and while it worked, it seems unfair we have to pay to get access to government services.

Have you tried calling right when they open? I heard that's the best time to get through.

0 coins

-

StarStrider

Yeah, I've tried that. No luck. It's always busy or I get put on hold forever.

Same here. I've tried calling at all hours of the day. It's impossible to get through 😫

What if we start a calling group where we try different times and share if we get through?

Unpopular opinion: maybe we should all show up at their office in person. Bet they'd fix the system real quick then!

Plot twist: what if there's actually no one working at the disability office and it's all just an elaborate hoax? 🤯

Hey OP, have you tried sacrificing a goat to the EDD gods? Might be more effective than calling at this point 🐐

Ugh, I feel your pain. The whole system is a mess. I've been trying to reach someone at disability for months now. It's like they don't want us to get help.

I completely agree. It feels like they make it deliberately hard for us to get the benefits we are entitled to.

Pro tip: if u can afford it, hire a disability lawyer. They know all the tricks to get things moving.

This! A lawyer helped me get my claim sorted in half the time.

But be careful, some lawyers are just as useless as the system 🙄

A good lawyer can really cut through the red tape, but make sure they specialize in disability claims.

Have you tried reaching out to your local representative? Sometimes they can help push things through.

0 coins

-

StarStrider

I hadn't thought of that. How do I find out who my rep is?

0 coins

Giovanni Greco

Just google "[your city] state representative". They usually have contact info on their website.

Reaching out to elected officials could be a game changer. They sometimes have direct lines to these departments.

I understand your frustration. Getting through to the right department in a timely manner is a common issue many people face. Claimyr, as mentioned by another user, does provide a service that helps connect you to a live representative, which can save time and reduce stress. However, it's important to weigh the cost of such service against trying free alternatives, like using online portals, contacting local representatives, or even visiting the office in person if possible. It's also crucial to keep track of your communications for future reference. When utilizing services like Claimyr, ensure that you provide clear instructions on the department you wish to contact to avoid mishaps. Lastly, if the situation becomes too complex, consider hiring a disability lawyer for assistance. While the system is flawed, persistence and strategic approaches can eventually lead to resolution.

Anyone else notice that the website is always "under maintenance" when you actually need to use it? 🤔

EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. It's like they don't want us to use it!

That or maybe they are really trying to update the system because of so much demand.

I work in a related field, so let me break down what might be happening and some potential solutions: 1. Understaffing: The disability office is likely severely understaffed, leading to long wait times. 2. High volume of claims: With the pandemic, there's been a surge in disability claims, overwhelming the system. 3. Outdated technology: Many government offices are working with old systems that can't handle the current load. Here's what you can try: - Persistence is key. Keep calling, but vary your timing. - Use the online portal if available. Sometimes it's faster than calling. - Document everything. Keep a log of all your attempts to contact them. - Consider reaching out to a disability advocate or lawyer if your case is complex. - As someone else mentioned, contacting your local representative can sometimes help. Remember, you're not alone in this struggle. The system is flawed, but don't give up on getting the benefits you deserve.
