SDI Call Center Hours: Can I reach CA EDD Disability before 5pm PT?
Hey everyone, I'm trying to get through to disability insurance and I'm wondering if anyone knows when the call center closes? I'm on the west coast and it's almost 4pm here. Really hoping I can get this sorted today but not sure if I'll make it in time. Any advice?

The EDD disability insurance call center usually closes at 5pm Pacific Time. You've still got about an hour, so there's a chance you might get through! Good luck!

I've heard rumors that they're updating their phone systems soon. Supposedly it'll make it easier to get through. Anyone else heard about this?

•My cousin works for the state (not EDD) and she said it's true. Supposed to happen by end of year.

Pro tip: I found a way to actually get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ

•Wait, seriously? That sounds too good to be true. Has anyone else tried this?

•$20 just to talk to someone? That's ridiculous. The system is so broken.

•I know it sounds sketchy, but I swear it worked for me. Saved me hours of frustration.

•There's a lot of mixed opinions about Claimyr, but it seems to work for some people. I think it's an unfortunate situation that people feel the need to resort to such services.

Thanks for the responses everyone. I guess I'll keep trying and hope for the best. Fingers crossed I get through before 5!

This whole situation is so frustrating. We pay into this system our whole working lives, and when we actually need it, it's nearly impossible to access. Something needs to change.

•Preach! 🙌 Maybe we should all write to our representatives about this.

•100% agree. Its time for a complete overhaul of the system. This is ridiculous.

•While services like Claimyr provide temporary relief, it's clear that long-term solutions are needed. A more efficient system would benefit everyone.

Hey, quick question - are you calling about a new claim or an existing one? Cuz I heard they have different numbers for each.

•It's a new claim. I didn't know there were different numbers. Do you have them?

•I think the new claims number is 1-800-480-3287. Not 100% sure tho, might wanna double check

Protip: if u cant get thru on the phone, try their online portal. Sometimes u can get answers there without having to talk to anyone

•Good call! I've had some success with it myself. It's definitely worth a try before spending money on services like Claimyr.

Ugh, I feel your pain. I've been trying to get through for weeks now. It's like they're purposely making it impossible to talk to a real person. 🤬

•Weeks? Try months! I swear the system is designed to make us give up.

•Have you tried calling right when they open? I heard that's the best time to get through.

•I've heard that using Claimyr can help. They seem to have a better handle on dealing with EDD than we do, but it feels like we shouldn't have to pay for this kind of service.

I'm in the same boat. Been trying to sort out my disability claim for weeks now. The whole system is a joke. Good luck, OP. You're gonna need it. 🙄

•It really makes you realize how much needs to change in these systems. It's not right that people have to struggle so much just to get assistance.

Has anyone tried contacting their local representative about these issues? I've heard sometimes they can help push things through.

•Tried that. They just sent me back to EDD. Waste of time imho.

Here's what you need to know about disability insurance payments: 1. Eligibility: Make sure you meet all the requirements. This includes having a qualifying disability and having paid into State Disability Insurance (SDI) through your paychecks. 2. Documentation: Have all your medical docs ready. They'll want proof from your doctor about your condition. 3. Timeline: Payments usually start within 14 days of your claim being approved, but it can take longer if there are issues with your application. 4. Amount: The benefit amount is about 60-70% of your wages earned 5 to 18 months before your claim start date. 5. Duration: You can receive benefits for up to 52 weeks, depending on your condition. Hope this helps! Let me know if you have any other questions.
