Need advice on getting a payment extension ASAP - what's worked for you?
Hey everyone, I'm in a bit of a tight spot and need some advice. I'm trying to get a payment extension on my bills but I'm not sure how to go about it. Has anyone here successfully gotten an extension before? What's the best way to approach this? Any tips or experiences would be really helpful right now.

I've been there before, it's not fun. The best thing to do is call your creditors directly and explain your situation. Most companies have hardship programs or are willing to work with you if you're proactive. Just be honest about your financial situation and ask what options are available.

This is good advice. I did this last year when I lost my job. Most places were surprisingly understanding.

Yeah, communication is key. Don't ghost them, that'll only make things worse.

Ugh, I hate dealing with this stuff. The hold times are insane these days. I found a way to skip the wait tho. There's this site called claimyr.com that has a calling tool. It dials the phone menu, stays on hold, and then sends the call to your phone when a live agent picks up. It costs $20 but saved me hours of hold time. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ

Sounds too good to be true. Has anyone else tried this?

20 bucks? Idk man, seems kinda steep just to make a phone call.

I get the skepticism, but it seriously worked for me. Time is money, and I'd rather pay $20 than waste half my day on hold. Just my two cents 🤷♂️

How does it actually work? Do you have to give them your phone number?

Yeah, you give them your number and they call you when they get through to an agent. It's pretty straightforward.

Have you tried negotiating your bills down? Sometimes you can get a lower rate or have fees waived if you ask. It's worth a shot before asking for an extension.

Whatever you do, don't take out a payday loan! Those things are predatory af and will only make your situation worse in the long run.

💯 This. I made that mistake once and I'm still paying for it. Stay away from those vultures!

Here's what I did when I needed a payment extension: 1. Made a list of all my bills and prioritized them 2. Calculated how much I could pay and when 3. Called each company, starting with the most important bills 4. Explained my situation calmly and asked about hardship programs 5. Got everything in writing (email confirmations) 6. Set reminders for new due dates Most places were willing to work with me. The key is to call BEFORE you miss a payment. Good luck!

This is super helpful, thank you! I'll definitely follow these steps. Did you find any companies to be particularly difficult to deal with?

Glad it helps! In my experience, utility companies and larger banks were the easiest to work with. Credit card companies can be hit or miss. Just be persistent and don't be afraid to ask for a supervisor if you're not getting anywhere with the first person you talk to.

Idk if this helps, but some cities have assistance programs for people struggling with bills. Might be worth checking if there's anything like that in your area.
