How to switch from DI to PFL for baby bonding? Need advice ASAP!

Hey everyone, I'm in a bit of a pickle here. My disability insurance just ended and I want to switch over to paid family leave for bonding with my new baby. Has anyone gone through this process before? I'm not sure how to make the transition smoothly and I'm worried about a gap in payments. Any advice would be really appreciated!

I found a way to solve disability-to-PFL transition issues, watch this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vbrWZ7ILNiM

Congrats on the new baby! 🎉 I went through something similar last year. You need to file a new claim for PFL as soon as possible. There's usually a waiting period, so the sooner you start, the better. Make sure you have all your docs ready - birth certificate, proof of relationship, etc. Good luck!

Thanks for the advice! Do you remember how long the waiting period was for you?

It was about 2 weeks for me, but I've heard it can vary. Best to call and check with them directly.

2 weeks?! Man, you got lucky. It took them a whole month to process mine 😤

I found a way to actually get someone on the phone! I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ

Sounds too good to be true. Has anyone else tried this?

20 bucks? Thats kinda steep just to make a phone call...

I know it sounds sketchy, but I swear it worked for me. Saved me hours of frustration. Worth every penny imho

Can confirm, I used it too. Beats sitting on hold for 3 hours straight 👍

Here's what you need to do: 1. File your PFL claim immediately after your DI ends 2. Gather all necessary documents (birth certificate, proof of employment, etc.) 3. Be prepared for a possible gap in payments - have some savings if possible 4. Keep calling and following up on your claim status 5. If you run into issues, consider contacting your local representative Remember, persistence is key. The system can be frustrating, but don't give up! You're entitled to these benefits.

Thank you so much for this detailed response! This is really helpful. I'll start gathering my documents right away.

Great advice! I'd add: keep copies of EVERYTHING you submit. You never know when they'll claim they didnt receive something 🙄

am i the only 1 who thinks its ridiculous we have to jump thru so many hoops just to get the benefits we deserve? 🤔 the whole systems a joke tbh

Preach! 🙌 It's like they make it complicated on purpose to discourage people from claiming

Quick tip: if you can, try to apply online. It's usually faster than mailing in forms. And triple-check everything before you submit!

Has anyone had luck getting retro payments for the gap between DI and PFL? I've heard mixed things.

I managed to get retroactive payments, but it took a lot of follow-up calls and providing extra documentation. It's possible, just be prepared for a fight.

Nope, struck out on that one. They told me there was no overlap allowed between the two programs. 🤷‍♂️
