FMLA claim pending for a month, need to close before filing disability. Help!
Hey everyone, I'm in a bit of a pickle. I filed for FMLA about a month ago and haven't heard anything back. I'm planning to file for disability soon due to an upcoming surgery, but I want to close my FMLA claim first. Has anyone been in a similar situation? Any advice on how to handle this?

Ugh, dealing with FMLA and disability claims can be such a headache. I've been there before. Have you tried calling them to check on the status of your FMLA claim? Sometimes you gotta be proactive and chase them down.

Yeah, I've been trying to get through on the phone, but it's been impossible. Always busy or on hold forever. 😫

Pro tip: call right when they open in the morning. That's usually the best time to get through.

I found a method to get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ

Sounds too good to be true. Is this legit?

I was skeptical at first too, but it really worked for me. Saved me hours of frustration.

For me, it was totally worth it. Time is money, and I wasted way more than $20 worth of time trying to get through on my own.

Here's what you need to do: 1. Call and confirm the status of your FMLA claim 2. Request to close the FMLA claim 3. Ask if you can submit any remaining intermittent days for pay under FMLA before closing 4. Find out if there's a deadline for submitting these days 5. Once FMLA is closed, gather all your medical docs for the upcoming surgery 6. File for disability with all the necessary paperwork Hope this helps! Good luck with your surgery. 💪

This is solid advice. I'd add: keep copies of EVERYTHING. You never know when you'll need to prove something later.

man, the whole system is so broken. why do we have to jump through so many hoops just to get the benefits we're entitled to? 🤦♂️

Quick question - when is your surgery scheduled? Make sure you leave enough time to sort out the FMLA stuff before you need to file for disability.

It's scheduled for 11/15. Do you think that's enough time?

That should be plenty of time if you start the process now. Just don't procrastinate!

I went thru something similar last year. My advice: document EVERYTHING. Every call, every letter, every email. It'll save ur butt if theres any disputes later on.

That's great advice, thanks! I'll start keeping a log of all my interactions.

Have you considered getting a lawyer involved? Sometimes just having a legal letterhead can light a fire under their butts.

I hadn't thought about that. Isn't it expensive tho?

Some offer free consultations. Might be worth looking into if things get really stuck.
