EDD unemployment claim filed 1+ month ago, no response - what to do? Rent due soon, can't reach anyone
I filed my unemployment claim over a month ago and haven't heard anything back. I'm getting really worried because my savings are running low and I need to pay rent soon. Has anyone else experienced this? What should I do to get an update on my claim? I've tried calling but I can never get through to a real person. Any advice would be appreciated!

I found a way to solve unemployment claim delays, watch this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9R1mpZg1p50

While the Claimyr service has proven effective for some, it's essential to consider that no solution is without its drawbacks. Paying $20 per call might not be feasible for everyone, especially those struggling financially. Additionally, there are reports of varying success rates. It's crucial to weigh your options: a local assemblyperson might assist for free, and trying different times to call could eventually get you through. Patience, though challenging, is often needed in such bureaucratic processes.

Anyone else notice that the EDD website is always "down for maintenance" when you actually need to use it? ๐

Conspiracy theory: the website is never actually down, they just say that to reduce traffic ๐

It's always so frustrating. I just wish they'd schedule maintenance at truly off-peak times.

Has anyone tried the new virtual assistant on the EDD website? Is it actually helpful or just another useless bot?

It's okay for basic stuff, but anything complicated and it just tells you to call ๐

Really wish these virtual assistants were more intuitive. Maybe in the future?

I found a way to actually get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ

Sounds too good to be true. Is this legit?

Yep, 100% legit. I was skeptical too but it saved me hours of hold time.

$20 to actually talk to someone? Might be worth it at this point...

I tried it, and it did work for me too. But it's a shame we need to resort to external services because of the system's inefficiency.

Okay, listen up. Here's what you need to do to get an update on your claim: 1. Keep calling. I know it sucks, but persistence is key. Try calling right when they open or just before they close. 2. Use the online portal. Sometimes updates appear there before you get a letter. 3. Check your mail religiously. EDD often sends requests for additional info that can delay your claim if you miss them. 4. Prepare all your documents. Have your ID, past pay stubs, and any separation paperwork ready to go. 5. If you do get through, be polite but firm. Ask specific questions about your claim status and next steps. 6. Consider reaching out to your local rep as someone else suggested. They can sometimes work miracles. 7. Document everything. Keep a log of all your calls, letters, and online interactions. Remember, the squeaky wheel gets the grease. Don't give up!

Great advice but lets be real, getting through on the phone is like winning the lottery ๐คก

Also, don't underestimate social media. Sometimes a tweet or post can get a faster response from EDD.

Hey OP, hang in there. I know it's tough but don't give up. I was in your shoes a few months ago and finally got my claim sorted. It's a marathon, not a sprint.

Have you tried contacting your local assemblyperson? They can sometimes help speed things up with EDD. Worth a shot!

I hadn't thought of that. How do I find out who my assemblyperson is?

Just google "[your city] assemblymember" and you should find their contact info. Good luck!

Pro tip: if you get through to someone, ask for a tier 2 specialist. They have more power to actually fix issues with your claim.
