EDD thinks I'm employed full-time due to small residual payments. How to fix?

Hey everyone, I'm in a bit of a pickle with unemployment. They think I've gone back to work full-time, but that's not true. The thing is, I get these tiny residual payments from work I did years ago. Now EDD thinks I'm employed again. Has anyone dealt with this before? Any advice on how to explain this to them without getting my benefits messed up?

I found a way to solve EDD residual payment confusion, watch this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SnhgOBQGabw

Ugh, the EDD system is such a mess! I had a similar issue with some freelance work I did. Here's what worked for me: 1. Call them ASAP 2. Explain that these are residuals, not current work 3. Ask them to update your records 4. Get it in writing if you can Good luck, dealing with EDD is like pulling teeth sometimes!

Yeah, I know it's tough. I actually found a way to get through. There's this site called claimyr.com that has a calling tool. It dials the menu, waits on hold, and then connects you when an agent picks up. Costs $20 but saved me days of frustration. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ

$20 just to make a phone call? Sounds like a scam to me 🤔

Nah, it's legit. I was skeptical too but it actually works. Saved me hours of hold time. Worth every penny imo

I swear, EDD is living in the stone age. They need to update their systems to account for modern work situations like residuals and gig economy stuff. its so frustrating!

Have you tried sending them an email explaining the situation? Sometimes its easier to get things sorted out in writing.

That's a good idea. Do you have an email template or something I could use as a starting point?

Sure thing! Here's a basic template you can tweak: Subject: Clarification on Employment Status - Residual Payments Dear EDD, I'm writing to clarify my employment status. Your records show I've returned to work full-time, which is incorrect. I receive small residual payments from past work, but I am not currently employed. Please update my records to reflect my actual status. Let me know if you need any additional info. Thanks, [Your Name]

Have you considered talking to a lawyer? Sometimes having legal representation can help navigate these bureaucratic nightmares.

A lawyer for unemployment issues? Isn't that overkill?

Not necessarily. Some offer free consultations, and if EDD is really messing up, it could be worth it.

I hope it doesn't come to that, but I'll keep it in mind as a last resort. Thanks!

Pro tip: keep ALL documentation related to these residual payments. EDD might ask for proof, and you don't want to be caught unprepared.

This happened to my cousin last year. It took him like 3 months to sort it out. The system is broken af 🤮

Hey, I work in HR and deal with EDD stuff sometimes. Here's my advice: 1. Document everything. Keep a log of all calls, emails, and letters. 2. Be persistent but polite. The person on the other end is just doing their job. 3. Use their terminology. Call it "residual income" or "royalties" rather than just payments. 4. If possible, get a letter from the company paying the residuals explaining the nature of the payments. 5. Don't stop certifying for benefits while you sort this out. Hope this helps! Let me know if you have any questions.
