EDD letter arrived after deadline - What to do now?

Hey everyone, I'm in a bit of a pickle with EDD. I got a letter about my claim status, but it arrived after the deadline they gave me. Has anyone dealt with this before? What should I do now? I'm worried they might deny my claim because of this.

Ugh, that sucks. EDD and their slow mail 🙄 I had something similar happen. Here's what I did: 1. Called them ASAP to explain the situation 2. Asked if they received my docs (even tho they were late) 3. Got the name of the person I talked to 4. Followed up with an email explaining everything It worked out for me, but it took some persistence. Good luck!

Thanks for the advice! Did you have any trouble getting through on the phone? I've been trying for days with no luck.

Oh man, getting through is a nightmare. I had to call like 50 times before I got through. Try calling right when they open, that seemed to work best for me.

50 times? You got lucky! I had to call over 100 times before I finally got through. EDD needs to fix their phone system ASAP.

I found a way to get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ

Sounds too good to be true. Has anyone else tried this?

I'm skeptical. Why should we have to pay to talk to a government agency? 🤔

I get the skepticism, but it honestly saved me so much time and frustration. Worth every penny for me. But yeah, it sucks we have to resort to this.

Have you tried faxing your documents? Sometimes that's faster than mail. Also, keep copies of EVERYTHING. EDD has a habit of 'losing' paperwork.

Faxing? What year is it? 😂 But seriously, thanks for the tip. I'll give it a shot.

This happened to me too! I wrote 'RECEIVED AFTER DEADLINE' in big red letters on the form and sent it in anyway. Then I called every day until I got through. It was a pain, but they eventually processed my claim. Don't give up!

Here's a detailed breakdown of what you should do: 1. Document everything: Write down when you received the letter, take photos of the postmark, etc. 2. Contact EDD immediately: Use phone, email, and fax if possible. Explain the situation clearly. 3. Submit your documents anyway: Even if they're late, send them in with a cover letter explaining the delay. 4. Request an appeal: If they deny your claim due to the late submission, you have the right to appeal. 5. Contact your local representative: Sometimes they can help push things through. 6. Keep detailed records: Note every interaction with EDD, including dates, times, and names of representatives. 7. Be persistent: Unfortunately, this process often requires multiple follow-ups. Remember, you're not alone in this. The system is overwhelmed, but don't let that stop you from getting the benefits you're entitled to. Stay strong! 💪

This is great advice. I'd add: join Facebook groups or subreddits about EDD. Sometimes you can get insider tips there.
