EDD disability extension limbo - last payment uncertain, need advice ASAP!
Hey everyone, I'm in a bit of a pickle with my disability payments and need some advice. I'm supposed to return to work on the 19th, but I'm not sure if I'll get my last payment on the 18th (our usual payday). I sent in a form to extend my disability on Monday, and EDD confirmed they got it, but I haven't heard anything else. Anyone know how long it usually takes to hear back about an extension? Also, should I be bugging my doctor for more info to support my case?

Ugh, the EDD is such a nightmare to deal with. I've been in your shoes and it's so frustrating. Here's what I'd suggest: 1. Call EDD ASAP. Like, yesterday. They're swamped and it might take forever to get through. 2. Definitely follow up with your doc. More documentation is always better. 3. Keep an eye on your EDD account online. Sometimes it updates there before they actually contact you. 4. If you don't hear back within a week, start calling daily. Squeaky wheel and all that. Good luck, hope it works out for you!

This is solid advice. I'd add: document EVERYTHING. Every call, every letter, every conversation with your doc. It'll save your butt if things go sideways.

Calling daily? ain't nobody got time for that 😩 I spent 3 hours on hold last time I tried!

Yeah, the hold times are brutal. But sometimes you get lucky and get through quick. It's worth a shot!

I found a way to get someone on the phone without the wait. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ

Sounds too good to be true. How does it actually work?

I get the skepticism, but it's legit. They basically have a system that calls and waits on hold for you. When a real person picks up, it connects to your phone. Saved me hours of frustration.

Can confirm, I've used it too. Worth every penny when you're dealing with EDD bs

Pro tip: if you're extending disability, make sure your doctor is on board BEFORE you submit anything to EDD. They often need to provide additional info and it can slow everything down if they're not prepared.

lol good luck getting EDD to do anything in a timely manner. I've been waiting 6 weeks for them to process my claim. The system is broken af 🤡

Have you checked your EDD account online? Sometimes the status updates there before they send any notifications. Also, don't forget to certify for benefits if that applies to your situation!

Thanks for the reminder! I'll def check online. And yeah, I've been certifying religiously. Learned that lesson the hard way before 😅

Not sure if this helps, but I had a similar situation last year. My doc wrote a letter explaining why I needed more time, and it seemed to speed up the process. Might be worth a shot!

Honestly, at this point, I'm convinced EDD just throws darts at a board to decide who gets paid and when. It's a total crapshoot 🎯

🤣🤣🤣 why does this feel so accurate tho

Nah, darts would be too efficient. They probably use a ouija board or something 👻

Hey OP, just a heads up - make sure you're keeping track of all your expenses while you're waiting. If there's a delay in payment, you might be able to claim hardship and get things expedited. Doesn't always work, but worth a try!

Have you considered reaching out to your local state representative? Sometimes they can light a fire under EDD's ass and get things moving.
