EDD disability extension filed but no payments - how long does processing usually take?
I got my disability extended by my doctor, but I haven't received any payments since the extension was filed. Does anyone know how long it typically takes for EDD to process these extensions and start sending payments again? I'm getting worried because bills are piling up and I can't get through to anyone on the phone.

Ugh, I feel your pain! I went through something similar last year. It took them almost 6 weeks to process my extension and start payments again. Have you checked your online account for any updates or messages?

Thanks for sharing your experience. I've been checking my online account daily, but there's no new information. It's so frustrating!

I know, right? It's ridiculous how long everything takes with EDD. Hang in there, OP!

Pro tip: Keep calling EDD first thing in the morning, right when they open. That's how I finally got through to someone. It might take a few tries, but it's worth it to get some answers.

I found a way to actually get someone on the phone at EDD. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video explaining how it works: https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ

Sounds too good to be true. Has anyone else tried this?

I get the skepticism, but it seriously saved me hours of frustration. Worth every penny IMO.

How long did you have to wait once they started calling?

It took about 2 hours total, but I didn't have to do anything. They just called me when an agent was on the line.

Have you tried reaching out to your local assembly member's office? They can sometimes help expedite EDD cases. It worked for me when I was stuck in limbo for weeks.

I hadn't thought of that! How do I find my assembly member's contact info?

Just google '[your city] assembly member' and you should find their office info. Good luck!

Here's what I've learned from dealing with EDD for way too long: ā¢ Extensions can take 4-8 weeks to process, sometimes longer ā¢ Make sure all your paperwork is in order and submitted correctly ā¢ Keep a log of all your calls, online submissions, and any correspondence ā¢ If you're really in a bind, consider applying for emergency assistance through local charities or your county's social services ā¢ Don't give up! Keep calling and checking your online account ā¢ If all else fails, contact your state representative or assembly member Hang in there, OP. The system is a mess, but persistence usually pays off eventually.

Wish I had known all this when I first started dealing with EDD. Would've saved me so much stress.

For real. We're already dealing with health issues, and then we gotta fight the bureaucracy too? It's exhausting.

Quick question - did you get any kind of confirmation when your doctor submitted the extension? Sometimes they forget to send it in, and that can cause major delays.

Oh no, I didn't even think to ask for confirmation. I'll call my doctor's office first thing Monday to make sure they actually sent it. Thanks for the tip!

Not to be a downer, but I've been waiting 3 months for my extension to be processed. EDD is seriously understaffed and overwhelmed. Might want to look into some temporary financial assistance options while you wait.

LPT: Set up email notifications for your EDD account if you haven't already. Sometimes they send important updates that way, and it's easy to miss if you're not checking regularly.

This! I missed an important deadline because the notice went to my spam folder. Double-check your email settings, people!
