EDD denied my SDI claim same day they received my docs - what now?
I applied for SDI by mail since I recently moved out of state but still qualify. EDD sent a request for more info, which I sent back right away via priority mail. According to tracking, it was delivered on 3/10. But I got a denial notice dated the same day! I think they must have crossed in the mail. Now I'm worried I'll have to appeal, which seems unfair since I responded so quickly. I haven't been paid since early February and really need this sorted out ASAP. Has anyone dealt with something similar? Any advice on what to do next?

Ugh, that sucks! The EDD is such a mess. I had a similar issue where they denied me before even looking at my docs. Here's what I did: 1. Call them ASAP. Like, every day if you have to. 2. Explain the situation calmly but firmly. 3. Ask them to review the documents you sent before processing an appeal. 4. If they insist on an appeal, file it right away and include copies of everything. 5. Consider contacting your state representative for help. Don't give up! It's frustrating, but keep pushing. Good luck!

•This is solid advice. I'd add: keep a log of every call, including date, time, and who you spoke to. It'll help if you need to escalate later.

•Calling them is impossible tho. I've been trying for weeks and can never get through 😫

•Yeah, getting through is a nightmare. I found this site (claimyr.com) that has a calling tool. It dials the menu, waits on hold, then calls you when an agent picks up. Costs $20 but saved me hours of frustration. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ

•$20 just to talk to someone?? That's ridiculous, we shouldn't have to pay for basic service 🤬

•I get it, but for me it was worth it. Spent way more on hold time and missed work before. Sometimes you gotta pick your battles 🤷♂️

classic EDD move lol. theyre probably drowning in paperwork and just auto-denying everything. keep calling and dont take no for an answer!

Have you tried faxing your documents? Sometimes that's faster than mail. Also, check if there's an online portal where you can upload docs directly.

•I didn't even think about faxing! Do you know if they accept that? The website wasn't super clear about submission methods.

•They should accept faxes. Look for a fax number on any of the letters they sent you. If not, call and ask for it. Always keep the fax confirmation page as proof!

Ive been in the same boat, its so frustrating! 😤 Have you tried reaching out to your local assemblymember or state senator? They can sometimes help cut through the red tape.

OK hear me out... what if you reapply entirely? Sometimes its faster than waiting for them to fix a messed up claim. Just a thought.

•Nooo don't do this! It can mess up your claim even more and potentially flag you for fraud. Stick with appealing or getting them to review the original claim.

•Oh snap, really? My bad, ignore my advice then! 😅

I found a way to actually get someone on the phone. There's this site called claimyr.com with a calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, and then calls you when an agent picks up. It costs $20, but it worked for me. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ

•Sounds sketchy. How do you know it's legit?

•I was skeptical too, but it worked for me. They have good reviews online and the video explains how it works. Saved me hours of hold time.

•Can confirm, I used this too. Expensive but worth it when you're desperate to talk to someone.

pro tip: if u can, go to an EDD office in person. sometimes face-to-face is the only way to get stuff done with these clowns 🤡

This happened to my cousin last year. He ended up having to appeal, but he won and got backpay. It's a pain, but don't give up!

•That's good to hear! How long did the appeal process take for him?

•It took about 6 weeks from filing the appeal to getting a decision. Then another 2 weeks for the backpay to come through. Hang in there!
