EDD SDI payments stopped after missed continuation form - nearly a month without benefits
I'm getting desperate here. Haven't received any disability payments since August 26th and now it's almost October! My neurologist submitted an extension for my condition (severe migraines with complications) which shows as 'received' in the system. The problem is I completely missed a continuation of benefits form that apparently had a September 1st deadline. No text or email notification came through like usual, so I didn't even discover it until the 5th when I checked my inbox manually. I submitted it immediately, but here we are weeks later with ZERO payments for September. I've been calling EDD daily (literally 20+ times) but can't get through to anyone. I even submitted that online 'Request Claim Update' form last week with no response. My rent is due in 3 days and I'm panicking. Has anyone faced this situation before? How can I actually reach a human being at EDD to fix this before I get evicted?

omg same thing happened to me last year!!! the notification system is garbage. took me 3 weeks of calling nonstop to finally get someone. call RIGHT when they open at 8am that's your best chance

•I've been trying the 8am calls but it's still the same 'we're experiencing high call volume' message and then disconnects. Did you do anything special to get through? I feel like I'm going to lose my apartment over their stupid notification system failure.

The late submission of your continuation form definitely triggered a payment hold. This is actually fixable, but you need to speak with an SDI claims specialist (not just any EDD representative). When you call, as soon as the system answers, press 1, then 2, then 4 - this routing sometimes works better than following the standard prompts. Also, submit a second Request Claim Update form specifically mentioning "late continuation form due to no notification" in the explanation. The system should generate an urgent review flag.

•Thank you so much for the specific number sequence! I'll try that first thing tomorrow morning. Do you think mentioning the "urgent review flag" specifically in my request form would help too? I'm just worried because my landlord is not the understanding type.

hate to be that person but ur probably not getting paid anytime soon. EDD is sooooo backed up right now and the continuation forms are like a huge deal to them. my friend had almost the exact situation and it took 6 weeks to fix. might want to look into emergency rent assistance programs just in case

•That's not necessarily true. My claim had a similar issue in July and I got it resolved within a week once I FINALLY reached someone. The key part is actually getting a representative on the phone who can override the system hold. Don't give up hope!

I had this exact problem earlier this year! After days of frustration, I found a service called Claimyr that got me through to an EDD representative in about 20 minutes. It saved my sanity - they basically call EDD for you and then connect you when they reach a person. I watched their demo video (https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ?si=1hcSq3KFtCr4oAmd) and decided it was worth trying since I literally couldn't get through on my own. The SDI specialist I spoke with was able to immediately release my payment after I explained about missing the form notification. You can check them out at claimyr.com - seriously a lifesaver for these continuation form issues.

•I've never heard of this service before. Seems a bit weird to pay someone to call for me, but at this point I'm desperate enough to try anything. Did they need a lot of your personal info? And were you really connected with an actual EDD rep who could help?

•They just needed basic contact info to call you back when they got through to EDD. And yes, it connects you directly to the same EDD representatives you'd reach if you got through yourself. The agent immediately saw my missed form in the system and processed an override. Had my payment within 48 hours after that call.

It's INFURIATING how they expect us to check for forms without notifications!!!! I'm dealing with something similar - except I didn't miss any forms and STILL haven't been paid since August! The whole system is DESIGNED to make us give up. And then they wonder why people don't trust government agencies LOL. The only thing that's ever worked for me is having my state assembly member's office get involved. Call your local rep's office and they can sometimes work miracles with EDD.

•The notification system actually works pretty well most of the time - I've had three disability claims in the past and received every notification. Sometimes they go to spam folders though. But I agree contacting your assembly member is a good backup plan if you can't get through on the phone within a week.

I'm an admin for a disability attorney, so I see this situation frequently. Here's what you need to know: The late continuation form doesn't automatically disqualify you from receiving benefits. It's classified as a "non-prejudicial administrative delay" under SDI guidelines. However, the system automatically puts a hold on payments until a claims specialist reviews it. Your doctor's extension being received is actually the most important part - that confirms your medical eligibility is still valid. Call this direct number for the SDI division: 1-800-480-3287 (not the main EDD number). When prompted, say "payment status" and then "speak to representative" - this sometimes bypasses the worst of the queue. Ask specifically for a "continuation form payment hold review." If the representative says they can't help, politely ask to speak with a tier 2 specialist who handles payment holds.

•Thank you for this detailed explanation! I didn't realize there was a separate number for SDI specifically. I'll try that approach tomorrow morning with the exact phrases you suggested. It's such a relief to hear that the doctor's extension being received means I'm still medically eligible. That was one of my biggest worries.

•Unfortunately, in-person EDD offices don't handle SDI claims - those are processed exclusively through the central Disability Insurance Branch. The local offices mainly handle Unemployment Insurance. It's a common misconception that can cost people valuable time.

UPDATE: Success!!! I used Claimyr this morning (thanks for that suggestion) and got connected to an EDD rep in about 25 minutes! The amazing woman I spoke with said she could see exactly what happened - the system flagged my account for a "certification gap" because of the late form. She processed an override on the spot and said my payments for the missed weeks should deposit within 24-48 hours. She also noted my account to ensure I get text notifications going forward. HUGE relief - I seriously was about to have a breakdown over this. For anyone else with payment delays after submitting forms late, definitely try to speak with someone directly - they CAN fix it once you explain the situation.

•That's awesome! So glad it worked out for you. It's amazing how quickly these issues can be resolved once you actually reach a human being at EDD. Hope your payments come through quickly!

•Lucky you got a GOOD representative! Some of them just read from scripts and don't actually help. Glad you got someone who knew what they were doing!

So happy to see your update! This gives me hope for others dealing with similar issues. It's crazy how the system can create these "certification gaps" but then a knowledgeable rep can fix it in minutes. Your experience really shows why it's worth trying multiple approaches - the direct SDI number, the specific phone prompts, services like Claimyr, or even contacting assembly members. The key seems to be persistence and finding the right person who actually understands the system. Thanks for sharing your success story - it'll definitely help others who find this thread later!

•This thread has been such a lifesaver! I'm actually dealing with a similar situation right now - my SDI payments stopped last week and I've been panicking. Reading through everyone's advice and seeing GamerGirl99's success story gives me so much hope. I'm definitely going to try the direct SDI number that Emma Johnson shared, and if that doesn't work, I'll look into Claimyr. It's really reassuring to know that these payment holds can be fixed quickly once you reach the right person. Thank you all for sharing your experiences - this community is amazing!

This is such an important thread for anyone dealing with EDD payment delays! I'm a newcomer here but have been lurking and learning so much from this community. What really stands out to me is how the "certification gap" issue seems to be a common problem that EDD reps can actually fix quickly once you reach them - it's just getting through that's the challenge. For future reference, it might be helpful to screenshot or save the direct SDI number (1-800-480-3287) and those specific phone prompts that Emma Johnson shared. Also, the fact that GamerGirl99's doctor's extension being "received" in the system was key to proving ongoing medical eligibility is really good to know. Thanks everyone for sharing such detailed experiences - this kind of real-world advice is invaluable when you're dealing with bureaucratic nightmares!

•Welcome to the community! You're absolutely right about how valuable these real experiences are. I'm also relatively new here but this thread has taught me so much about navigating EDD issues. The contrast between the panic in GamerGirl99's original post and her successful resolution really shows how these situations can turn around quickly with the right approach. I'm definitely bookmarking that direct SDI number and phone prompt sequence too - it seems like having those specific tools ready can make all the difference when you're in crisis mode. It's also interesting how multiple people mentioned the importance of reaching a knowledgeable representative versus just any EDD employee. Thanks for highlighting those key takeaways!
