EDD SDI claim stuck on "pending doc info" despite doctor submitting forms - typical wait times?
My disability claim has been sitting in limbo for almost 3 weeks now and I'm getting really anxious. Had reconstructive ACL surgery on January 10th (2025) and managed to submit my initial SDI claim about a week after surgery when I was more clear-headed from the pain meds. The online status has been stuck on "pending doctor info" this whole time even though my surgeon's office confirmed they submitted all the required medical certification forms at least 12 days ago. The bills are starting to pile up and I honestly can't return to my construction job for at least another 7-8 weeks according to my surgeon. I've tried calling EDD multiple times but keep getting the automated message about high call volume. Does anyone have recent experience with how long claims are taking to process? Is there something else I need to do to push this along? My coworker who had similar surgery last year said he got approved within 2 weeks, so I'm worried something's wrong with my claim.

I just went through this exact same thing with my pregnancy disability claim! It said "pending doc info" for almost 4 weeks even tho my OB confirmed they sent everything in. I finally got through to an EDD rep who told me they have a HUGE backlog of medical forms to process - apparently they're taking 3-5 weeks right now to even look at the doctor's certification once they receive it. The rep told me the online status doesn't update in real-time. My claim finally got approved last week (took about 26 days total). Hang in there!

•Thanks for sharing your timeline. That's reassuring to hear it eventually went through! Did you have to do anything special to get through to an actual person on the phone? I feel like I've been calling for days with no luck.

•The EXACT same thing happened to me in November! The EDD website is completley useless and shows wrong info half the time. They denied my claim saying they never recieved doctor paperwork but my doctor had proof they sent it TWICE!! It's like they're trying to deny claims by "losing" paperwork. What a joke this system is. 😡😡😡

Unfortunately, this kind of delay is normal with SDI claims right now. The average processing time at EDD is currently 20-30 days, even when all documentation is submitted correctly. The online status often doesn't update accurately, which adds to the confusion. Here are some things you can do to help move things along: 1. Ask your doctor's office to resubmit the certification form (DE 2501) - sometimes the forms get lost in the system or have minor errors that cause delays 2. Submit a request through your SDI Online account asking for a status update 3. If your claim has been pending for more than 30 days, you can file a formal complaint with EDD 4. Check if your doctor used the correct EDD Customer Account Number on the form - this is a common error that causes delays One important thing to know: if your claim is eventually approved, you'll receive backpay for all the weeks you were eligible, starting after your 7-day waiting period. So you won't lose any benefits due to processing delays.

•Thanks for the detailed advice. I'll definitely ask my surgeon's office to resubmit the forms tomorrow. I didn't know about the formal complaint option after 30 days - that's helpful to know as a backup plan if things don't move forward soon.

I had foot surgery back in September and it took them 6 weeks to process my claim! And I called like every single day and couldn't get through. It was so frustrating but eventually got approved and they backdated the payments. The online system is basically worthless for updates.

•Six weeks?! That's absolutely ridiculous! Did they at least pay you interest for making you wait so long? (Probably not, knowing EDD...

After being in the same situation with my SDI claim (stuck on pending for weeks), I finally found a service called Claimyr that got me through to an EDD rep in about 10 minutes instead of spending hours redialing. You can see how it works here: https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ?si=1hcSq3KFtCr4oAmd The rep I talked to was able to see that my doctor's certification had actually been received but was sitting in a processing queue. She manually reviewed it while I was on the phone and approved my claim right then. Worth checking out if you're desperate to talk to someone at EDD - their website is claimyr.com

Based on my experience working in healthcare and helping patients with disability claims, there are a few important things to understand about the current EDD SDI process: 1. The "pending doctor info" status often stays active in the system even after the medical certification has been received. This is a known issue with their online portal. 2. The current processing timeframe for initial SDI claims is approximately 3-4 weeks from the date all required documentation is received. This has increased from the previous 2-week standard due to staffing shortages. 3. For knee surgery specifically, make sure your doctor indicated the correct recovery period based on your occupation. Construction work requires a longer certification period than sedentary work, and this can trigger additional review. 4. You can request an expedited review if you're experiencing financial hardship. This must be done by phone or through the Contact EDD feature in your online account. The good news is that when your claim is approved, you'll receive retroactive payments from the 8th day after your disability began (following the mandatory 7-day waiting period).

•Thank you for the detailed information. I didn't know about the expedited review option for financial hardship - that's definitely something I'll look into if this continues much longer. Do you know if there's any particular language or specific requirements I should mention when requesting that?

My brother works for EDD (not disability side tho) and he says their systems are ANCIENT and half the time the different departments can't even communicate with each other properly. He says the disability dept is especially backed up right now. When I filed disability last year they lost my paperwork TWICE and I had to have my doctor resubmit everything. Total nightmare. Took almost 6 weeks before I saw a penny.

•This is exactly why I tell EVERYONE to keep copies of EVERYTHING you send to EDD. Screenshot confirmation pages, get tracking numbers for mail, and always always ALWAYS get confirmation numbers for faxes. They will 100% claim they never received your documents otherwise!

Update: Just wanted to check in and see if there's been any progress with your claim. Have you been able to contact EDD or get any updates from your doctor's office about resubmitting the forms?

•Thanks for checking back! I used that Claimyr service that someone recommended above and actually got through to EDD yesterday. Turns out they received my doctor's certification but there was some issue with the dates not matching exactly what I put on my claim (I was off by 2 days on when the surgery happened). The rep was able to fix it while I was on the phone and said my claim should be processed within 5-7 days. Huge relief! I'll update once I actually get paid.
