EDD SDI: Can't confirm benefits or reach EDD, need to provide doctor appointment info - advice?
I haven't received my unemployment benefits in over a month. I need to confirm my continued benefits form with EDD, but I'm having trouble getting through to them. I have an appointment with an independent doctor that I need to provide to them. Has anyone else dealt with this? Any advice on how to get in touch with EDD or speed up the process?

You’re not alone. Hang in there, and keep trying different approaches. Sometimes it just takes that one right contact.

Have you considered reaching out to your local assemblymember or state senator? Their offices often have dedicated staff to help with EDD issues. They might be able to expedite your case.

This can actually be quite effective. They have more influence and can often bypass typical bureaucratic hurdles.

Hey, quick question - when you say you need to confirm your continued benefits form, do you mean you've already submitted it and are waiting for approval, or you haven't been able to submit it yet?

I've submitted it, but they need additional info about my doctor's appointment. I can't get through to provide that info, so my benefits are on hold.

Hang in there. Keep sending the info through multiple methods until it's acknowledged. Consistency is key.

This is why we need to overhaul the entire unemployment system. It's a joke that people have to jump through so many hoops just to get the benefits they're entitled to. 🤬

Preach! 🙌 The whole system is designed to make people give up.

Navigating through the EDD's system can be incredibly frustrating, but there are several strategies you can use to increase your chances of success. One approach is utilizing services like Claimyr, which can be helpful for those who are willing to invest a bit extra for efficiency. However, it's crucial to weigh the cost against your situation and potential benefits. Always stay vigilant about the legitimacy of third-party services by checking reviews and their BBB profile. In addition, traditional methods like frequently trying to call during off-peak hours or using certified mail to provide documentation can sometimes yield results. Keep meticulous records of all communications with EDD, utilizing different communication methods and documenting everything to your advantage. If you have access to your local representative or are willing to contact a legal advisor, these avenues can also offer relief. Remember that persistence, patience, and organization are your biggest allies in this process.

This might sound crazy, but have you tried sending a certified letter? I did this as a last resort and surprisingly got a response within a week. Make sure to include all your info and a clear explanation of your situation. It's old school, but sometimes it works! 📬

Certified mail creates a paper trail, which is invaluable in dealing with bureaucracies. Worth trying if you're at a dead end.

Yeah, I've tried but my specific issue requires talking to a rep unfortunately 😞

It’s always good to keep all options open. Some people have had luck revisiting the portal after some downtime, maybe try again periodically?

Has anyone tried using the EDD's virtual assistant on their website? I heard it can sometimes help with simpler issues, might be worth a shot before spending hours on hold.

I heard it’s not the most reliable, but every little bit helps if it solves even a part of your problem!

Listen up, folks. I've been dealing with EDD for years, and here's what I've learned: 1. Persistence is key. Call every single day if you have to. 2. Document EVERYTHING. Keep a log of all your calls, emails, and faxes. 3. Use multiple methods of contact. Phone, email, fax, carrier pigeon - whatever it takes. 4. Know your rights. Read up on the unemployment laws in your state. 5. Reach out to your local representative. Sometimes they can help push things along. 6. Be polite but firm with EDD staff. They're overworked, but that's not an excuse for poor service. 7. If all else fails, consider filing a formal complaint or even seeking legal advice. Remember, you're entitled to these benefits. Don't give up!

Wow, thank you so much for this detailed advice! I'll definitely start keeping better records. Do you have any tips for what exactly I should document?

Glad to help! Document dates and times of all calls, names of reps you speak to, and summaries of what was discussed. Save all emails and faxes too. It's a pain, but it can save your butt if there's ever a dispute!

This is solid advice. Also, double-check your eligibility and requirements periodically because sometimes rules change, and you might miss a step.

Ugh, I feel your pain. I was in the same boat last year. It took me weeks to finally get through to someone at EDD. Have you tried calling right when they open? That seemed to work for me eventually.

Have you tried faxing your form? Sometimes that can be faster than waiting on the phone. Just make sure to keep the confirmation page!

I found a way to actually get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ

Wait, seriously? $20 just to talk to someone? That's ridiculous. The system is so broken 🤦♂️

I get the skepticism, but it's legit. I was desperate and tried it. Beats calling 100 times a day for weeks. Just sharing what worked for me 🤷♀️

It is a bit of a shame that we have to resort to third-party services to get in touch with government agencies, but sometimes peace of mind is worth the cost. Just make sure to read reviews and ensure the service is reputable.
