EDD Nightmare: Filed for disability in July, laid off again, have doctor's note - still no benefits. Help!

I've been having issues with my EDD disability benefits. I filed back in July and still haven't received any disbursements. To make matters worse, I just got laid off again last week! I have a doctor's note saying I no longer need disability, but I'm not sure how to update my file or get this sorted out. Has anyone else dealt with something similar? Any advice on how to get through to EDD and resolve this mess?

Ugh, the EDD system is such a nightmare! I've been in a similar situation and it took me months to get it sorted out. Here's what worked for me: 1. Keep calling every day, multiple times a day. It's frustrating, but persistence is key. 2. Have all your documents ready - layoff notices, doctor's notes, everything. 3. When you finally get through, be super polite but firm. Explain your situation clearly and ask for specific next steps. 4. Follow up with an email summarizing your call and any instructions they gave you. 5. If you're still not getting anywhere, try contacting your local state representative. They can sometimes help push things through. Good luck, OP! The system is broken, but don't give up!

This is solid advice! I'd add that keeping a log of all your calls (date, time, who you spoke to) can be really helpful too.

Contacting your state rep is a game-changer! They helped me get my issue resolved in like a week after months of nothing.

Thanks so much for this detailed advice! I'll definitely try the state rep route if I keep hitting dead ends.

Have you tried faxing your doctor's note to EDD? Sometimes that's faster than waiting for them to pick up the phone. Just make sure to include your claim number on every page!

100% agree. It's like they're playing games with our livelihoods. Not cool, EDD. Not cool at all. 😤

Idk about that conspiracy theory, but the system is definitely overwhelmed. They need to hire more people or upgrade their tech or something!

Hey, I found a method that actually works to get someone on the phone! I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video explaining it: https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ

Sounds too good to be true. Is this legit? Anyone else tried it?

$20 just to talk to someone? That's ridiculous. The system is so broken if we have to pay just to get basic service. 🤦‍♂️

I get the skepticism, but it seriously worked for me. After weeks of trying to get through, I was able to talk to someone in like an hour. Worth every penny imho.

Can you share more details about how it works? Do they guarantee you'll get through?

Sure! Basically, you choose the department you need to reach on their website, pay the fee, and then their system starts calling EDD for you. When it gets a human on the line, it calls your phone and connects you. No guarantee, but they say they'll refund you if it doesn't work.

I'm in the same boat, OP. Filed in August, got laid off in October, and still crickets from EDD. It's like were invisible to them or something. Solidarity, friend. 💪

Ugh, it's so frustrating! Hope you get it sorted out soon too. Keep me posted if you find any tricks that work!

Pro tip: try calling right when they open in the morning. I got through after only 20 minutes on hold last week!

Have you checked your UI Online account? Sometimes they post updates or request additional info there without actually contacting you. Worth a shot!

Hey, quick question - when you say you were "laid off again," does that mean you were working while on disability? Cuz that could complicate things with your claim. Might wanna clarify that when you talk to EDD.

Good catch! No, I wasn't working on disability. I meant I was laid off in July, then filed for disability, and now I'm technically laid off again as my doctor says I can work but my old job is gone. It's a mess!

Ah, gotcha. Yeah, that's a tricky situation. Definitely explain that timeline clearly to EDD. You might need to file a new unemployment claim now that you're cleared to work.

Anyone else feel like we need to start a support group for people dealing with EDD? 😅 We could call it "EDD Survivors" or something lol
