EDD Disability claim denied after 5 weeks, no explanation given. What to do?

My disability claim has been denied and I'm not sure why. It's been 5 weeks since I applied. I don't have any information about why it was denied. Has anyone else dealt with this? What should I do next?

I found a way to solve denied disability claim issues, watch this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bBi5XQrJ4zY

Ugh, that sucks. Have you tried calling them? Sometimes they deny claims for stupid reasons like missing paperwork or something.

I haven't been able to get through on the phone. It's always busy or I'm on hold forever 😫

Pro tip: call right when they open. Like, set an alarm and everything. Sometimes you can get through faster that way.

I found a way to actually get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ

Sounds too good to be true. Does it really work?

Yeah, it actually does! I was skeptical at first too, but I was desperate. Got through in about an hour.

$20 tho? That's kinda steep just to talk to someone 🤔

I get it, but for me it was worth it. Beats wasting hours on hold or not getting through at all.

Here's what you need to do: 1. Check your online account for any messages or requests for additional info 2. Gather all your medical documentation 3. Write down a clear timeline of your disability and treatments 4. Call and speak to a rep (use the tip about calling early) 5. If you can't get through, consider sending a written appeal 6. Don't give up! Sometimes you have to be persistent I went through this last year and it took a few tries, but I finally got approved. Hang in there!

Thank you so much for this detailed advice! I'll definitely follow these steps. Did you have to appeal your denial?

Yep, I had to appeal. It was a pain, but worth it in the end. Just make sure you have all your ducks in a row before you call or send anything in.

Have you checked if theres any local advocacy groups that can help? Sometimes they know all the tricks to navigating the system.

I hadn't thought of that! Do you know how I might find one?

Try googling '[your state] disability advocacy group' or check with local community centers. They often have resources or can point you in the right direction.
