EDD Claim stuck in 'Waiting Period' for 5 weeks - No payments yet. Normal?
I opened an unemployment claim about 5 weeks ago and haven't received any money yet. The claim status just shows "Waiting Period". Is this normal? I haven't gotten any updates or payments. Anyone else experiencing long waiting periods?

5 weeks is definitely longer than usual. Have you tried calling EDD? Sometimes there's an issue they need to clear up before payments can start.

I've been trying to call but can never get through. It's so frustrating!

Pro tip: call right when they open. I got through after only 30 mins on hold that way.

I found a way to actually get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ

Sounds sketchy. Is it legit?

Yeah, it's totally legit. I was skeptical at first too, but it saved me hours of frustration. Worth every penny imo.

How long did you have to wait for the callback?

It took about 2 hours for me, but beats spending all day hitting redial!

Here's what you need to do to get your claim moving: 1. Double-check all your info is correct on the claim 2. Upload any additional docs they might need (ID, paystubs, etc.) 3. Try to get through on the phone (use the trick others mentioned) 4. If all else fails, contact your local assembly member's office. They can often help push claims through. Don't give up! The system is overwhelmed but keep at it and you'll get your benefits eventually.

Thank you so much for this detailed advice! I'll definitely try contacting my assembly member if I can't get through on the phone.

This is solid advice. The assembly member trick worked for me when I was stuck for weeks.

I heard they're super backed up cuz of all the fraud cases. Might be why it's taking so long for legit claims too.
