EDD: 6 weeks, no update on unemployment claim. What to do?
I filed for unemployment benefits over 6 weeks ago and still haven't heard anything back. I've been checking my account status regularly but there's no update. I even tried calling but couldn't get through to anyone. Has anyone else experienced such a long wait time? What should I do next?

Ugh, welcome to the club 🙄 I've been waiting for 2 months now. The system is so broken, it's ridiculous. Have you tried faxing your documents? Sometimes that works faster than online submissions.

Faxing? What year is it, 1995? 😂 But seriously, does that actually work?

Can confirm, faxing is like a secret cheat code for EDD. Weird but effective!

6 weeks is actually not that bad compared to some horror stories I've heard. But here's what you should do: 1. Keep calling every day, multiple times a day. It's annoying but persistence pays off. 2. Check your spam folder regularly. Sometimes important emails end up there. 3. Reach out to your local assembly member's office. They can often help expedite things. 4. Make sure you've submitted all required documents. Double-check everything. 5. Consider applying for other assistance programs while you wait. Hang in there, the system is overwhelmed but you'll get through eventually!

Thanks for the detailed advice! I'll definitely try reaching out to my assembly member, didn't even think of that.

This is solid advice. I'd add: document EVERYTHING. Every call, every letter, every email. It might come in handy later.

I found a method to get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video explaining it: https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ

Sounds too good to be true. Has anyone else tried this?

I get the skepticism, but it seriously worked for me. Saved me hours of frustration. Sometimes you gotta spend money to make money, ya know?

Just tried it. Can confirm it works. Got through in about 45 minutes. Worth every penny tbh

6 weeks? You sweet summer child. I've been waiting since March 2020. At this point, I'm convinced EDD is run by a bunch of hamsters on wheels. 🐹💨

Bruh, since 2020? That's insane! Have you tried contacting your state rep?

Pro tip: call right when they open. I mean EXACTLY when they open. Set an alarm and everything. I got through on my third try doing this.

Anyone else notice that EDD's website looks like it was designed by a middle schooler in 2003? Maybe if they updated their tech, we wouldn't be in this mess 🤦♂️

Hey now, don't insult middle schoolers like that 😂

Unpopular opinion: sometimes no news is good news. If there was a problem with your claim, they'd probably let you know faster. Hang in there!

I'm in the same boat, been waiting forever. Starting to feel like I'm stuck in an unemployment version of Groundhog Day. Wake up, check account, no update, repeat. 😫

Mood. It's like waiting for a text back from your crush, but instead of a cute message, you're just hoping for money to buy food 😅
