One more important thing - make sure you request the payment plan BEFORE the due date on your overpayment notice. If you miss that deadline, they can start collection activities including garnishing any current benefits you're receiving. Also, the appeals process (if you go that route) can take 2-3 months, so plan accordingly for your finances in the meantime. If you win the appeal, they would refund any payments you've already made toward the overpayment.
this happened to my cousin and she said just ignore it and they eventually stopped sending letters lol but probably not the best advice
UPDATE: The money just appeared on my card this morning! So it took about 36 hours from notification to funds being available. Thanks everyone for your help and reassurance!
This happened to me last month when I got my pregnancy disability payment. My old card from 2023 still worked fine but I had to transfer the money to my regular bank account because the BofA app is sooooo glitchy. Just FYI you can set up direct transfers in the app so you don't have to keep checking the BofA balance!
Quick update - my wife's payment just posted to her BofA card about 10 minutes ago. Looks like they're starting to process the backlog. You might want to check your account!
For anyone dealing with this issue in the future, I recommend setting up a buffer in your budget if possible. Pregnancy disability payments through SDI are unfortunately prone to these kinds of delays. When I was on pregnancy disability with my second child, I made sure to keep at least one payment's worth of expenses in savings as a buffer. I know that's not possible for everyone, but it really helped reduce my stress levels when these inevitable hiccups happened.
Update: I just checked my account and it changed from "pending" to "paid" status! Looks like it took exactly 13 business days from when they received the doctor's certification. Thanks everyone for your help and suggestions. Such a relief to see movement on this!

Does anyone know if there's a way to just get direct deposit instead of dealing with these annoying debit cards? I'm about to file for pregnancy disability next month and I'd really prefer not to deal with any card delays.

•Unfortunately, California EDD still uses the Bank of America debit card system as their only payment method. Once you get the card, you can set up automatic transfers to your regular bank account, but initially, everyone gets a card. Some other states have direct deposit options, but not California (at least not yet).

UPDATE: My replacement card arrived today! Only took 4 days with the expedited shipping. I was able to activate it right away and transfer the funds to my regular checking account. For anyone else dealing with this issue, definitely call Bank of America EDD department directly (1-866-692-9374) rather than trying to go through EDD. Thanks everyone for your help and suggestions!
