Made a mistake on SAR7 - put husband's paystubs under my name - will CalWORKs discontinue our Cash Aid?

I'm freaking out a little bit right now. I submitted my Semi-Annual Report (SAR7) last week and just realized I uploaded all my husband's paystubs under MY name instead of his. The paystubs clearly show his name printed on them, but I'm worried this will mess up our case. Has anyone made this mistake before? Will the eligibility worker figure it out, or should I call and explain? Our recertification is coming up next month and I don't want to get our Cash Aid discontinued because of this stupid mistake. Would they even notice since the paystubs have his name? Should I just wait or should I reupload everything correctly?

Don't panic! This happens more often than you think. Since the paystubs have your husband's name printed on them, your worker will most likely just note it correctly in the system. The important thing is that you submitted the income verification before the deadline. If you're really worried, you can upload them again under his name with a brief note explaining the mistake, but I don't think this is something that would cause them to discontinue your benefits.

Thank you! That helps calm my nerves. Do you think I should still call them just to make sure? Our benefits are the only thing keeping us afloat right now.

That's a relief to hear. Did they call you right away or did it take them a while to get in touch?

took like a week but i think it depends on ur county and worker. some r faster than others

I wouldn't wait! Call your worker ASAP and explain the situation. I made a mistake on my SAR7 last year (forgot to report some income) and they discontinued me without any warning. Had to reapply and went without benefits for almost 2 months! Different situation but still - don't risk it. The county workers barely look at what they're processing and might just flag it as incomplete or inconsistent!!!

While it's always good to be proactive, I think your situation was quite different. Not reporting income at all is a much bigger issue than simply mislabeling whose income it is, especially when the paystubs themselves show the correct name. But I agree that getting confirmation from the worker provides peace of mind.

Maybe ur right but i learned the hard way NEVER to assume they'll figure things out on their own. The system is designed to find reasons to cut benefits, not give people the benefit of the doubt!!!

I just went through the SAR7 verification process too. The form is so confusing. At least you submitted paystubs! My friend got cut off because she didn't know she needed to send in verification even though nothing changed in her situation.

If you're worried about this, I'd suggest trying to reach your CalWORKs worker directly to explain the mistake. I had such a hard time getting through to my county office last month for my Welfare to Work exemption question. After three days of calling and getting disconnected, I used Claimyr.com and got through to a real person in less than 30 minutes. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/jzISHxCPLwE. It saved me from potentially losing my benefits because of a paperwork issue that needed to be resolved quickly.

I've been trying to call all morning and keep getting the automated system. I'll check this out, thanks!

Does this actually work? I spent 2 hours on hold yesterday before giving up

It worked for me when I needed to talk to someone about my Welfare to Work hours. Got through way faster than when I tried calling directly.

I work as an eligibility assistance specialist (not a county worker, but I help people with benefits). Here's what you should know: 1. This is a minor error that shouldn't affect your eligibility as long as the income information is accurate 2. The eligibility worker should notice the names on the paystubs and correctly attribute the income 3. However, county offices vary in how they handle these situations Your best option is to submit a correction through BenefitsCal or your county portal. Upload the paystubs again under your husband's name with a note explaining the previous error. If you can't reach anyone by phone, document your attempts to correct the mistake. Take screenshots of the new upload with timestamps. The most important thing with SAR7 is that you submitted it on time with the income verification. The labeling issue is secondary and fixable.

Thank you so much for such a detailed response! This is exactly what I needed to know. I'll log into BenefitsCal tonight and reupload everything with a note explaining what happened.

My case worker told me they're mostly looking to make sure all income is reported, doesn't matter as much which household member it's under as long as it's all there. When is your Income Reporting Threshold (IRT)? If you're under that amount you should be fine either way.

Our IRT is $2,850 and we're still under that amount. That's good to know they're mainly focused on the total income being reported correctly.

Just following up - were you able to get this sorted out? Did you reupload the documents or get through to your worker?

Yes! I managed to get through using that Claimyr service someone mentioned. My worker said it wasn't a big deal since the paystubs had my husband's name on them. She made a note in our case file and said everything looks good for our upcoming recertification. Such a relief! Thanks everyone for your help!

That's such great news! I'm so glad you got it resolved and can breathe easy now. It's always nerve-wracking when you think you might have messed something up with your benefits. Thanks for updating us - it's really helpful to know how these situations actually turn out. Stories like yours give the rest of us hope that the workers are more understanding than we sometimes expect them to be.

This is really encouraging to hear! I'm new to CalWORKs and still learning how everything works. It's reassuring to know that when you make an honest mistake and try to fix it, the workers can be reasonable about it. I was worried that any little error would automatically result in losing benefits, but it sounds like they understand that people are human and sometimes mix things up on forms. Thanks for sharing the update - it definitely gives me more confidence in dealing with my own case!
