CalWORKs transportation supportive services payment missing last month - anyone else?
I just noticed I didn't get my transportation payment from CalWORKs last month. I'm in the Welfare to Work program and have been getting the transportation money loaded onto my EBT card on the 5th of every month for almost a year now (I use it to get to my approved work activity). February payment never showed up and it's causing problems because I need that money for bus passes and gas. My caseworker doesn't return my calls. Does anyone else get transportation supportive services and had their payment missing last month? Wondering if this is just happening to me or if it's a bigger issue. Really stressing because I can't afford to miss my work hours!

This happened county-wide in Sacramento last month. There was some kind of system update that delayed transportation payments. They should have sent out a notice about it. The good news is that my WTW worker said they're doing back payments this month - I just got mine yesterday (both Feb and March together). Call your Welfare to Work worker directly, not your eligibility worker. They handle the supportive services payments.

•Thank you! I'm in LA County so maybe it's happening here too. I've been trying to reach my WTW worker for 2 weeks with no luck. Left like 5 voicemails already. So frustrating!

•Same here! My worker said it was because I didn't turn in my WTW activity log on time, but I KNOW I did. So sick of them losing our paperwork and then blaming us. Check if you have your confirmation number from when you submitted your logs.

This is actually a known issue that's affecting several counties right now. There was a system conversion in the CalSAWS database that's caused delays in processing supportive services payments including transportation and childcare. According to my contact at DPSS, payments should be issued retroactively by March 15th. A few things to know: 1. The missed payment will NOT affect your WTW participation requirements - you still need to meet your hours 2. You can request an emergency transportation payment if you absolutely need it to attend your WTW activity 3. Document all your transportation expenses during this time for potential reimbursement Make sure you're contacting your WTW worker specifically, as they handle supportive services, not your regular eligibility worker.

•This is really helpful information, thank you! I was wondering why my worker wasn't giving me a straight answer about this. Do you know if we need to fill out any special forms for the retroactive payment, or will it be automatic?

•It should be automatic since you're already approved for transportation supportive services. But it never hurts to verify with your worker that you're on the list for back payments. If you need emergency assistance before then, you'll need to specifically request that through your WTW worker.

OMG this is ridiculous!!! First they make us participate in these stupid work activities then they don't even give us the money to GET there! How are we supposed to keep our hours if we can't afford to get to the location??!!! And they NEVER answer the phone so how are we supposed to ask for this "emergency transportation" thing? The whole system is designed to make us fail so they can cut our benefits. I'm so TIRED of this!

•I feel your frustration! Last time something like this happened to me, I had to borrow money from my sister to get to my WTW activity. When I finally got through to someone, they said I should have contacted them right away...but HOW when nobody answers the phones?? Makes no sense.

•I've been dealing with CalWORKs for years and unfortunately these kinds of system issues happen more often than they should. The best advice I can give is to always keep documentation of EVERYTHING - receipts for gas, bus passes, Uber rides, etc. Even if you have to put it on a credit card temporarily, keep those receipts for reimbursement. And always get the name of any worker you talk to.

If anyone is still struggling to get through to their worker about this, I used a service called Claimyr that helped me finally connect with my WTW worker yesterday after trying for over a week. They basically hold your place in the phone queue and call you back when a real person answers. Saved me hours of hold time! Their website is claimyr.com and they have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/jzISHxCPLwE After I finally got through, my worker confirmed there was a system issue with the supportive services payments and said mine would be on my EBT card by next week, including the back payment. She also noted in my case that I shouldn't be penalized for any missed hours if they were due to transportation issues.

•Just tried Claimyr and it actually worked! Finally got through to my WTW worker who confirmed it was a system issue. They're fixing it by next week apparently. Thanks for the tip!

Does anyone know if this affects childcare payments too? My provider hasn't been paid for February either and she's starting to get upset with me about it. I can't lose my childcare or I'll definitely lose my Cash Aid for not meeting WTW hours.

•Yes, supportive services include both transportation and childcare payments. The system issue is affecting both. Your childcare provider should receive the February payment along with March's payment soon. If they're registered providers, they can actually call a dedicated provider line to inquire about the status of their payment - the number should be on their provider paperwork.

•Thank you! I'll let her know. She's been with me for over a year so hopefully she'll understand. This program makes everything so complicated.

Good news! Just got both my February and March transportation payments today on my EBT card! Check yours if you haven't already - looks like they're fixing the issue now.

•Nothing for me yet... typical that some people get it and others don't. Guess I'll be calling again tomorrow 🙄

•@Keisha Johnson Don t'give up! Sometimes the payments get processed in batches. Try using that Claimyr service @Amina Diallo mentioned earlier - it really does help you get through to someone faster. When you do talk to your worker, ask them to check if your case got flagged for any reason that might be delaying the payment. Also make sure they have your correct EBT card number on file. Hope you get yours soon!

I'm so glad I found this thread! I'm also missing my February transportation payment and was starting to panic. I'm in Orange County and my WTW worker finally called me back today after I left multiple messages. She confirmed it's the same system issue affecting multiple counties. She said they're processing the back payments in waves and mine should show up by Friday. In the meantime, she told me to keep all my receipts for any transportation costs I had to pay out of pocket - gas, bus passes, etc. - and they can potentially reimburse those too. It's frustrating but at least now I know it's not just me and there's an actual fix coming. Hang in there everyone!

•Thanks for sharing this update! I'm new to CalWORKs and this is my first time dealing with something like this. It's really reassuring to hear that other counties are experiencing the same issue and that there's actually a solution in progress. I was starting to think I had done something wrong with my paperwork. Question - when you say they can reimburse out-of-pocket transportation costs, do we need to submit those receipts through our WTW worker or is there a separate process? I've been using rideshare to get to my job training and those receipts are adding up fast!
