Will all my kids receive P-EBT benefits if only one child's card arrived? (Ages 12, 8, 6, and 3 months)

Just got a P-EBT card in the mail yesterday, but it only has my 12-year-old's name on it. I have 4 kids total (12, 8, 6, and a 3-month-old baby) and they're all on CalFresh with me. I thought all school-age kids were supposed to get P-EBT benefits? The amount loaded seems too small for 4 kids. When I called the P-EBT hotline, I was on hold for over an hour before I gave up. Do they send separate cards for each kid or should they all be getting benefits on this one card? The 3-month-old probably doesn't qualify since he's not in school, but my other three definitely should. Anyone else deal with this situation? Do I need to submit something else to get benefits for my other kids?

P-EBT cards are issued separately for each eligible child, so you should eventually receive cards for your 8 and 6 year olds as well. The 3-month-old won't qualify since P-EBT is specifically for school-aged children (K-12) who would have received free or reduced-price school meals. Cards often arrive at different times - my kids' cards came about 2 weeks apart from each other. The amount on each card is based on your child's school attendance records and whether their school participated in the National School Lunch Program. If you don't receive the other cards within a few weeks, then you should try calling again.

Thank you so much! That makes me feel better. I'll keep an eye out for the other cards in the mail. Do you know if there's a way to check if my kids' schools participate in that lunch program? They get free lunch at school but I never had to fill out any forms for it.

Oh that's such a relief to hear! I was worried I did something wrong on my CalFresh application. I'll just keep checking the mail then. Thanks!

If all your children are on your CalFresh case and the older three are in school, they should all qualify for P-EBT. However, they do mail the cards separately and sometimes weeks apart which is incredibly frustrating. I have two kids and their cards arrived almost a month apart last time. Keep an eye on your mail. If you don't receive the other cards within 3-4 weeks, you'll need to contact them again. Pro tip - if you need to call the P-EBT hotline again and don't want to wait on hold forever, try using Claimyr.com. I discovered it when I was trying to resolve an issue with my daughter's missing P-EBT card. They'll wait on hold with the P-EBT office for you and call you back when a real person answers. Saved me hours of hold time. They have a demo video on how it works here: https://youtu.be/eZ19FHRETv8?si=_CXnXqNXbLl26WB8

It worked for me! I was skeptical too but I was desperate after trying to get through for a week. The service just connects you directly to the worker when they answer - they don't access any of your case information. You still talk to the P-EBT worker yourself.

Each eligible child receives their own P-EBT card with their name on it. The cards are mailed separately and often arrive weeks apart. For your reference: - School-aged children (K-12) qualify if they attend a school that participates in the National School Lunch Program - Children under 6 who are on CalFresh may qualify for P-EBT even if they're not in school under certain program rules - Your 3-month-old would not qualify as they don't meet either criteria The amount on each card is individualized based on your child's school's schedule and how many qualifying days they had. If you don't receive cards for your other school-aged children within 4 weeks, you should contact the P-EBT office again.

Wait, kids under 6 on CalFresh can get P-EBT even if they're not in school? I have a 4 year old and never received a card for him. Is this something new for 2025?

My kids are 7 and 10 got there p-ebt cards about 2 weeks apart from each other last time. The whole system is so confusing!!! They send them out in batches by age or something, thats what the lady told me when I finally got thru to someone. Dont worry your other kids will get theres eventually if there eligible. But the baby definitely wont get one cuz they have to be in school or atleast childcare that gives free meals I think.

Thanks for sharing your experience! I'll try to be patient. Did your kids' cards have different amounts on them? My 12-year-old's card seems to have less than what I expected.

Yep mine had different amounts! My 10 year old got more than my 7 year old and the lady said it was cuz of how many days they were marked absent or something. So if ur kid missed school a lot they might get less?

P-EBT has been extended for the 2024-2025 school year under the expanded nutrition assistance programs. If you were recently approved for CalFresh, it might take a while for the P-EBT system to process your child's eligibility. Also, your child's school must participate in the National School Lunch Program for them to qualify. You can check with your child's school administration to confirm.

Just to add to my earlier comment - the P-EBT benefits for 2025 are being issued in phases. My understanding is that they're going by age groups and counties, which is why siblings often receive their cards at different times. The issuing schedule sometimes extends over 2-3 months, so don't worry if there's a significant gap between receiving each card. Also, make sure your mailing address is current with your child's school and on your CalFresh account. This is often the biggest reason people miss their cards.

That's good to know about the phases. Our address is current everywhere - we've lived in the same place for 3 years now. Is there a website where I can check the status of my other kids' cards? The P-EBT website isn't very helpful.

Unfortunately, there isn't a great tracking system for P-EBT cards that haven't been issued yet. The only way to check status is through the P-EBT hotline, which as you've discovered, has extremely long wait times. If it's been more than 4-5 weeks since you received the first card and you still don't have the others, that's when I'd recommend making the effort to get through on the phone.

I'm going through the exact same thing right now! I have 3 kids (ages 9, 7, and 4) and only got one P-EBT card so far for my oldest. I was panicking thinking I messed something up on my application. Reading everyone's responses here is so reassuring - sounds like this is totally normal and the cards just come at different times. The waiting is stressful though when you're counting on those benefits for groceries. I'll keep checking the mailbox and try to be patient. Thanks for asking this question because I was about to make the same post!
