Trouble changing password on BenefitsCal app for CalFresh management - any tips?

I've been trying to change my password on the BenefitsCal app for managing my CalFresh benefits for THREE DAYS now! Every time I try to reset it, I get stuck in some weird loop where it says it sent me an email but nothing ever comes through. Then when I try the 'forgot password' option, it wants me to answer security questions I don't remember setting up! I can still log in with my old password, but they keep sending me notifications saying I need to update it for security reasons. Has anyone successfully changed their password on this app recently? The county office is impossible to reach by phone and I'm worried my CalFresh benefits might get affected if I don't update this soon.

No I haven't tried the website yet... didn't even think of that. Did you use the same login info as the app?

The BenefitsCal app has been having some issues with the password reset function lately. Here's what usually works:\n\n1. Try using the desktop website (BenefitsCal.com) instead of the app\n2. Clear your cache and cookies if using a browser\n3. If you're still having trouble, try during non-peak hours (early morning works best)\n4. Make sure your email address is correctly entered - sometimes there's a typo that prevents reset emails\n\nYour CalFresh benefits won't be immediately affected by password issues, but it's good to get it resolved so you can complete your upcoming SAR7 or recertification when needed.

not true about benefits not being affected! my cousin got locked out of her account and couldn't do her semi-annual report on time and they cut her benefits off! took 3 weeks to fix!!!

This might sound kinda weird but try checking your spam folder? BenefitsCal emails ALWAYS go to my spam for some reason even though I've marked them as 'not spam' like 100 times. Also, if you created your account a long time ago, the email might be going to an old email address you don't check anymore? Just throwing ideas out there because I had major password headaches with my CalFresh account too.

I checked spam already but good thought. I've had the same email for years so that shouldn't be the issue. This is just so annoying when I'm just trying to follow their security requirements!

I literally spent 2 HOURS on hold with the county trying to fix this exact issue last month! The system is totally broken. When I finally got through, they told me their password reset system was

Wait, you actually got through to someone at the county office? HOW??? I've been calling for days about my CalFresh recertification and just get disconnected or stuck on hold forever!

If you need to reach a CalFresh worker about this issue (or any account problems), I would recommend trying Claimyr. It's a service that holds your place in the phone queue and calls you back when a worker is ready to talk to you. Saved me hours of hold time when I had a similar password issue with my BenefitsCal account. You can see how it works at https://youtu.be/eZ19FHRETv8?si=_CXnXqNXbLl26WB8 or just go to claimyr.com. Much better than waiting on hold all day or having to go to the office in person.

One more thing to try before going through the hassle of calling the county: If you have access to a different device (like using a friend's phone or a public computer at the library), try the password reset from there. Sometimes the app gets stuck in a cache loop on your specific device. \n\nAlso, make sure you're using the correct username - BenefitsCal often has people create usernames that are different from their email addresses, and this trips people up during password resets.

Thanks for the suggestions! I'll try on my laptop tonight. And yes, I'm using the correct username (it's not my email - it's that weird combo of letters and numbers they assigned me when I first applied for CalFresh). Fingers crossed it works on a different device!

Were you able to get this fixed? I'm having the EXACT same problem now with my account and I need to report an income change before my next SAR7 is due!

Yes! Finally got it working. The suggestion about using the website instead of the app worked perfectly. I logged in with my old password on BenefitsCal.com (not the app), went to account settings, and was able to change my password there without any issues. Then I logged out of the app completely, closed it, reopened and logged in with the new password. All good now and I can submit my quarterly report!
