EBT card replacement taking forever - issued Nov 26 but still nothing in mail! Help?
Just needing some advice here. My EBT card was reported lost and they said they issued me a new one on November 26. It's now already January and I STILL haven't gotten anything in the mail. This is my food money for me and my kids! I've called the EBT customer service line like 5 times but keep getting disconnected or told different things. One person said to wait another week, another said it should have been here already. Has anyone else had their replacement card take this long? What should I do? My benefits are still being deposited but I can't access them without the card. Getting really worried about feeding my family...

Unfortunately this happens more than you'd think. Replacement cards should take 7-10 business days max, so something definitely went wrong. There are three possibilities: 1. The card was sent to the wrong address in the system 2. It got lost in the mail (rare but happens) 3. They never actually processed the replacement request properly You need to contact your county office directly, not just the EBT customer service line. They're the ones who can tell you exactly what happened and expedite a new card. Be sure to confirm your mailing address is correct in their system. Some county offices can actually print a temporary EBT card while you wait if you can go in person.

•Thank you!! I didn't know county offices could print temp cards! I'll try to go in person tomorrow. Do I need to bring a bunch of ID documents with me?

•I'm worried this is what happened! I moved in October and updated my address online, but maybe it didn't update everywhere in their system? So annoying!

This is EXACTLY why I keep a backup EBT card. The CalFresh system is completely broken when it comes to card replacements. Last time I needed one, they told me 7 days, then 14 days, then 21 days... meanwhile my kids are hungry and they just don't care!!! Typical government incompetence. If you go to the county office, INSIST they print you a card right there. Don't leave without it. They'll try to tell you they can't do it, but they CAN. I've done it twice now. Bring your ID and your case number if you have it. And good luck!

•How do you keep a backup EBT card? I didn't know that was possible since they deactivate your old one when you report it lost.

•Before my card gets too worn out or damaged, I request a replacement saying it's not working properly. Then I keep the old one until new one arrives - they don't deactivate immediately in that case. Then I have the new one as my primary and keep the old as backup just in case. Not perfect but better than nothing!

I work for a community organization that helps with CalFresh issues, and card replacement delays are unfortunately common right now. Here's what I recommend: 1. Bring your ID, Social Security card, and any CalFresh documents you have to your county office 2. Ask specifically for an "emergency EBT card replacement" - using those exact words can help 3. If they say they can't help you in person, ask to speak with a supervisor 4. Make sure they verify your current mailing address in the system If you're still having trouble reaching someone by phone to sort this out before you can visit in person, you might want to try Claimyr. It's a service that helps you get through to CalFresh workers quickly without waiting on hold for hours. Their website is claimyr.com and they have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/eZ19FHRETv8?si=_CXnXqNXbLl26WB8. Several clients I've worked with have used it when they were in similar emergency situations.

•Thank you for all this detailed advice! I'll definitely use those exact words. I've never heard of Claimyr before but I'm going to check it out right now. At this point I'll try anything to get this resolved!

•Yeah I've been checking everything super carefully - even opened all the junk mail just in case. Nothing from them at all. :

Two months is way too long! Something definitely went wrong in the system. When I had a similar issue, I found out that the replacement request never got processed properly because of a glitch in their system. The customer service rep kept saying it was sent, but when I finally reached my actual caseworker, they could see it was stuck in some kind of pending status. Do you have access to BenefitsCal online? Sometimes you can see the status of card replacements there. Worth checking!

•I do have BenefitsCal access! I just logged in but I don't see anything about my card replacement status anywhere. Where exactly would it show up?

•Go to "My Benefits" then look for "EBT Card Information" or something similar. It might show the date they claim it was mailed. If you don't see that option, they might not have that feature in your county yet. The system varies county by county unfortunately.

This happened to me after my last recertification. I ended up having to go to the county office and they printed me a temporary card right there. Bring your ID and know your Social Security number. They might ask security questions like your case number or verification of your address. The temporary card worked immediately, and then my permanent one came about a week later. Good luck! It's so stressful when you can't access your benefits.

•Thank you! It IS super stressful. I'm going to try going to the office tomorrow morning. Glad to hear another confirmation that they can print cards there!

Just wanted to follow up - were you able to get your replacement card? If you're still having trouble, one other thing to try is to ask if your county has an EBT liaison. Some counties have specific staff members who can troubleshoot EBT card issues more effectively than regular eligibility workers.

•Yes! Finally got it sorted yesterday. Went to the county office and they found out my card replacement request was stuck in some weird status. They printed me a temporary card on the spot and I was able to get groceries last night. Thank you all for the advice!!!
