Canceled PEBT replacement on August 7th but still nothing - how long before new card arrives?

I'm so frustrated right now! I called to report my lost PEBT card on August 7th and canceled the old one like they told me to. The representative said I'd get a replacement card in the mail but it's been almost 3 weeks and still nothing! My kids are back in school and I was counting on those benefits for groceries this month. How long does it normally take for a replacement PEBT card to arrive? Should I call again or just keep waiting? Anyone else wait forever for a replacement? I'm worried it got lost in the mail or something went wrong when they processed my request.

When you canceled the card, did you specifically request a replacement during the same call? Sometimes these are treated as two separate actions. For PEBT replacement cards in 2025, they're supposed to arrive within 7-10 business days. Since it's been 3 weeks, you should definitely call again. Make sure to have your case number or confirmation number from your first call if possible.

Thank you! Yes, I definitely asked for a replacement during the same call. I even confirmed the mailing address with them. I don't have a confirmation number though - they didn't give me one. I'll try calling again tomorrow.

ugh the PEBT cards are THE WORST to replace!!! i lost mine back in may and it took like 5 weeks to get the new one. kept calling and they just said 'its in process' every time. so annoying

OMG that's awful! My sister had the same issue. 5 weeks is ridiculous when kids need to eat! The system is so broken.

5 WEEKS?? I really hope mine doesn't take that long! Did you do anything special to finally get it? Or just had to wait it out?

The problem is they've been swamped with Summer PEBT transition to the new school year cycle. My county worker told me they're running about 2-3 weeks behind on PEBT card replacements right now. BUT you should definitely call again because sometimes replacement requests get stuck in their system and need to be manually pushed through. These aren't processed exactly like regular EBT cards - they have a different system and it's been having all kinds of glitches since they updated it in June.

That makes sense about the summer transition. I've been trying to call but keep getting stuck in their automated system for 30+ minutes before it disconnects me. So frustrating!

I had a similar issue last month and was getting nowhere with the PEBT hotline. I finally used Claimyr.com to get through to an actual county worker who could help. It basically holds your place in line and calls you back when a real person is available. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/eZ19FHRETv8?si=_CXnXqNXbLl26WB8. The worker I spoke to was able to see that my replacement card request hadn't been processed correctly and fixed it on the spot. New card arrived 4 days later!

I've never heard of this service! Thanks for sharing - I'm going to try it tomorrow. I'm desperate at this point and can't keep getting disconnected after waiting forever.

One question - are you sure you're calling the right number for PEBT specifically? Its different from the regular EBT customer service line! I made that mistake and wasted a whole week before someone pointed it out to me lol

Oh no, now I'm confused. I called the number on the back of my old PEBT card (the one I lost but remembered the number). Is that not the right one?

That should be the correct number. The PEBT customer service line is 1-877-328-9677 for California. Just make sure when you call again you specifically ask for a supervisor if the regular representative can't see the status of your replacement card in their system.

I work with families applying for benefits, and here's what I recommend when PEBT replacements are delayed: 1. Call and request to speak to a supervisor immediately 2. Ask if your replacement was properly entered in their EBT Edge system (sometimes they enter it wrong) 3. Request an "expedited replacement" due to hardship 4. Get a confirmation number THIS TIME 5. If they say it's already processing, ask for the exact date it was processed and when it should arrive If you still don't get it within 5 business days after calling again, contact your county's PEBT liaison office directly (not the general hotline). Each county has designated staff for PEBT issues.

Thank you SO much for these detailed steps! I'll follow them exactly when I call tomorrow. I didn't know about asking for it to be expedited or that there's a special county liaison office. This is incredibly helpful!

I don't mean to confuse things, but are you sure it's a PEBT card and not regular CalFresh EBT? I only ask because sometimes people mix them up and the replacement processes are slightly different. PEBT is specifically for school-age children's food benefits, while regular CalFresh EBT is for general household food assistance. Just want to make sure you're calling the right department!

Yes, it's definitely PEBT (Pandemic EBT) for my school-age kids. We have that in addition to our regular CalFresh benefits. The PEBT is the blue card with my kids' names on it for their school meals program.

Got it! Just checking because the wait times and processes are different. Definitely follow the advice from the benefits worker above - asking for a supervisor and getting a confirmation number is key!

UPDATE: I called using that Claimyr service someone recommended, and it worked! Got through to a supervisor who confirmed my replacement was stuck in "pending" status because of a glitch in their system. They fixed it and expedited a new card that should arrive within 3-5 business days. They also gave me a confirmation number this time. Thanks everyone for your help!

so glad u got it fixed!!! save that confirmation # like its gold lol. they always try to act like they never talked to u before if u dont have it

The system glitches are so common now with the new platform they switched to. Good thinking on getting the supervisor directly - regular representatives often can't see the backend status codes. Hope your card arrives quickly!
