Lost my P-EBT card - what's the fastest way to get a replacement?
I misplaced my P-EBT card somewhere in my apartment move last week and I've been tearing everything apart trying to find it. My kids' school benefits are on there and we really need access to those funds. Has anyone had to get a replacement card? Do I need to go to the county office in person or can I call somewhere? How long does it take to get a new one? Really stressed about this since we're counting on those benefits for groceries this month.

Don't panic! Replacing a P-EBT card is different from regular CalFresh EBT cards. You need to call the P-EBT customer service line at 877-328-9677. They'll cancel your old card and mail you a new one. It usually takes 7-10 business days to arrive. Make sure you have your information ready when you call - they'll ask for verification details.

•Thank you so much! I was thinking I had to go through my regular CalFresh worker. Do you know if they'll transfer the balance automatically or do I have to ask for that specifically?

Omg I went thru the same thing in December!! The automated system is HORRIBLE to navigate. I spent 3 days trying to get thru before I finally reached someone. Just keep trying and pressing 0 until u get a human

•This is sooo true. Their phone system is the worst! Took me like 5 tries and I kept getting disconnected after waiting for 45+ minutes each time. So frustrating when you need those benefits!

When I lost my P-EBT card last year, I spent days trying to get through their phone system with no luck. I was about to give up when someone told me about Claimyr.com. It's this service that calls and waits on hold for you, then connects you when a real person answers. Saved me hours of frustration! They have a video showing how it works here: https://youtu.be/eZ19FHRETv8?si=_CXnXqNXbLl26WB8. Definitely worth it for P-EBT issues because their phone system is worse than regular CalFresh.

•Does that actually work? sounds kinda sketchy tbh

•It's legit! They just wait on hold and call you when they reach a person. I was skeptical too but it saved me from spending another day trying to get through.

Just to clarify some information here: P-EBT and regular CalFresh EBT cards have different replacement processes. For P-EBT specifically: 1. Call the P-EBT customer service line: 877-328-9677 2. Your old card will be deactivated immediately 3. The new card will come with your existing balance automatically transferred 4. Current processing time is approximately 7-10 business days 5. You cannot get a P-EBT replacement at the county office - it must be done through the state system Make sure you have the child's information (name, DOB) and your address ready when you call. Also, once you get the new card, set a PIN immediately because it won't come with your old PIN.

•Thank you for such detailed information! I didn't realize the PIN wouldn't transfer over - that's really good to know. I'll make sure to have all my kids' info ready when I call.

•The PIN thing tripped me up too!! I tried using my old PIN at the store and my card got locked after 3 tries 🤦♀️ had to call AGAIN

I kno this is off topic but does anyone know if they're issuing new P-EBT benefits for 2025? My kids qualified last year but I haven't heard anything about this years program and the school didn't send any info home

•The 2025 P-EBT program was approved, but distribution schedules vary by county and school district. Benefits should start rolling out in phases starting next month. If your children qualified for free/reduced lunch this school year, they should automatically receive P-EBT. There's no separate application needed.

just wondering why u even need to replace it? cant u just use the regular calfresh ebt card for groceries? thats what i do

•P-EBT is completely separate from regular CalFresh. It's specifically for families with kids who qualify for free or reduced-price school meals. Since my kids qualify through their school, we get the P-EBT benefits on a separate card from our regular CalFresh benefits. They're two different programs with different funding and eligibility.

One more tip - when you call that P-EBT number, try calling right when they open at 8am. That's when the wait times are shortest. And if you're really struggling for food before your replacement card arrives, you can contact your local food bank or call 211 to find emergency food assistance programs in your area.

•Thanks for the advice! I've actually been able to reach them this morning (called at 8:05am) and they've processed my replacement request. They said 7-10 business days for delivery. We should be okay with what we have until then, but I appreciate the suggestion about the food bank just in case!

CONGRATS on getting thru!!! 🎉 Did they tell u if u can track the card delivery? When I replaced mine there was some website where u could see the status but I forgot what it was

•They didn't mention anything about tracking! That would be super helpful. If anyone knows the website for tracking P-EBT card replacements, please share!

There isn't actually a public tracking system for P-EBT replacement cards like there is for regular EBT cards. However, you can call the customer service line again after 5 business days to check on the status. If it's been more than 10 business days and you haven't received your card, definitely call them back as something may have gone wrong with the mailing.

•Oh maybe I was thinking of something else then. I could've sworn there was a way to check... must've been for regular EBT not P-EBT

Just wanted to add that while you're waiting for your replacement card, make sure to keep checking your old card balance online or through the app in case it somehow turns up during your move! I thought I lost mine once and found it wedged between some boxes weeks later. The balance will still be there even after they deactivate it if you find the physical card, but you'd need to call them to reactivate it instead of waiting for the replacement. Hope your new card arrives quickly!

•That's actually really good advice! I never thought about the card potentially still working if I find it later. I'm definitely going to keep looking through all my moving boxes just in case. Do you happen to know if there's a fee for reactivating the old card if I find it, or would they just cancel the replacement request?

I just went through this exact same situation last month! The stress is real when you're counting on those benefits. One thing that helped me while waiting for my replacement was calling ahead to stores to ask if they had any technical issues with EBT systems that day - saved me a few trips when the new card finally arrived. Also, if you have multiple kids on the P-EBT program, make sure to mention all of them when you call so they can consolidate everything onto one replacement card. The customer service rep initially only processed one of my kids and I had to call back. Good luck with everything!

•That's such a helpful tip about calling stores ahead of time! I never would have thought of that. And wow, I'm glad you mentioned the multiple kids thing - I have two children who both get P-EBT benefits and I definitely want to make sure they consolidate everything onto one card. When I called this morning I only mentioned my oldest, so I should probably call back to make sure they have both kids' information. Thanks for sharing your experience!
