Missing CalFresh P-EBT 3 card for 9-year-old - how to get a replacement?
It's been months and I still haven't received the P-EBT 3 benefit card for my 9-year-old. My other kids (5 and 12) got theirs back in December 2024, but nothing came for my middle child. I've checked the mail constantly and definitely never activated or used it, so it's not lost - it just never arrived. Already tried calling the P-EBT hotline twice but got disconnected after waiting 45+ minutes each time. Anyone know how to actually get a replacement card or talk to someone who can help? My son qualified for free lunch all year so I know he should have received benefits like his siblings did.

the p-ebt 3 cards were sent out in batches... some kids got em way later than others. but by now everyone shoulda got theirs for sure. there's a specific P-EBT replacement number thats different from regular calfresh, did u try that one?? i think its 877-328-9677

•Yes, that's the exact number I've been calling! I wait forever and then just get disconnected. So frustrating because my other two kids got theirs in the same week but nothing for my middle child. Do you know if there's an online option or if I can go to the county office for this? P-EBT is separate from regular CalFresh right?

P-EBT and regular CalFresh benefits are handled by different systems, so going to the county office won't help with P-EBT issues. You need to specifically request a replacement through the P-EBT hotline. Since you're having trouble reaching them by phone, you can also email PEBTinfo@dss.ca.gov with your child's name, date of birth, school, and explanation that you never received the card. Include your current mailing address to ensure it's sent to the right place. They typically respond within 7-10 business days.

•Thank you so much for the email address! I'll definitely try that today. Should I include my child's student ID number too or just name/DOB? Really appreciate the help since I was about to give up after those frustrating phone calls.

I had a similar issue with my nephew's card. Tried calling for WEEKS!! Finally got through using Claimyr.com - it keeps your place in line and calls you back when an agent is available. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/eZ19FHRETv8?si=_CXnXqNXbLl26WB8. Saved me hours of waiting on hold. Once I finally got through, they were able to confirm my nephew's card had been returned to them due to address issues, and they resent it right away.

•That sounds amazing! I'm definitely going to check it out if the email doesn't work. Did they need any special documentation when you finally reached them? And how long did it take to get the new card after you spoke with someone?

•Yes, I'm 100% sure he qualifies. All three of my kids go to the same school and they're all on the free lunch program. The other two got their cards no problem, it's just my 9-year-old's that never showed up. But I appreciate the info about schools sometimes messing up the paperwork - at least I know it's probably not something I did wrong!

To answer your follow-up question - yes, including your child's student ID number in the email would be very helpful. Also, if you have any documentation showing your child's enrollment in the free lunch program, attach that as well. These additional details will help them locate your child's record faster. If you don't receive a response to your email within 10 business days, I would then try the Claimyr service mentioned above, as it does seem effective for getting through to representatives.

•I found his student ID and free lunch confirmation letter and attached them to the email I just sent. Fingers crossed this works! If not, I'll definitely try Claimyr next week. Thank you!

This happenedd to my daughter last year and turned out the card was sent to my OLD ADDRESS eventhough I updated it with the school!!! The P-EBT system doesnt always sync with school records right away. Did you move in the last year? if you did thats probly what happened

•We did move about 14 months ago! I updated our address with the school right away, but now I'm wondering if that could be the issue since the P-EBT system might be different. How did you end up resolving it for your daughter?

I had to specifically tell them about the move when I finally got someone on the phone. They confirmed the card went to old address & was returned to them. They sent a new one after I verified current address. Took about 3 weeks to arrive after that convo.

•This is exactly right. P-EBT uses address information from school databases, but there's often a lag in updates. If a family moves, the P-EBT system may not have the current address. When you contact them (either via email or phone), specifically mention your change of address and when it occurred. This will help them locate the card if it was returned to them. Also, be prepared to verify your identity and relationship to the child, as they have strict privacy protocols for reissuing benefits.

P-EBT is such a headache! The regular CalFresh program is SO much more organized. My kids' P-EBT cards came with wrong names printed on them last year and it took MONTHS to fix. Make sure when you do email them you keep a copy and follow up weekly. They're overwhelmed with requests but squeaky wheel gets the grease.

•That's good advice about following up weekly. I'll definitely do that if I don't hear back soon. It's frustrating because the benefits are supposed to help families who need it, but then we have to jump through so many hoops to actually access them!

•I actually saved all our mail for a couple months because I was worried about exactly that! Went through everything multiple times and definitely no card for him. His siblings' cards came in white envelopes but they at least had the state return address. I've been super careful about our mail since then.

Quick update on P-EBT 3 timeline: If you're still missing a card at this point in 2025, it's definitely not coming without intervention. The final batch of initial P-EBT 3 cards was mailed in November 2024. At this stage, you'll need to specifically request a replacement through the hotline or email. When contacting them, ask them to verify if a card was ever issued for your child - sometimes there are system errors where eligible children are missed in the initial distribution. Based on your situation with siblings receiving benefits, your 9-year-old was likely eligible but either the card was sent to an old address or there was a system error in the issuance.

•Thank you for confirming this! I sent that email yesterday with all his info and mentioned our change of address situation. If I don't hear back by next Friday, I'll try the Claimyr service to get through on the phone. It's good to know all initial cards should have been sent by now, so I can stop checking the mail every day hoping it might still come!
