CalFresh Summer EBT cards sent to wrong address - how to update for my kids?

I recently moved and just realized my kids' Summer EBT cards might get sent to our old address. We've been on CalFresh for about a year, but I forgot to update our mailing address when we moved last month (still within the same county). My neighbor texted that some mail from the county came for us. I'm worried it might be the Summer EBT cards for my three kids. Has anyone dealt with this before? Do I need to contact the county office directly or is there a faster way to update our address so those benefits don't get lost? Really don't want to miss out on the extra food money for my kids this summer.

You definitely need to update your address ASAP! Summer EBT cards are being mailed out right now for 2025. Call your county office immediately and let them know you've moved. They can put a hold on mailing the cards or redirect them. You should also update your address in the BenefitsCal system online if you haven't already done that.

Thanks for the quick response! When I try to call the county office I just get stuck in the automated system that keeps disconnecting me. Is there a specific option I should press to get through to a real person about address changes?

this happened to me last yr.... had to wait FOREVER to get new cards issued. total nightmare with my kids home all summer and no extra food $$$. the county made me fill out some form proving i didnt use the original cards that got sent to wrong place. took like 6 weeks to get resolved!!

Oh no, that's exactly what I'm afraid of! 6 weeks would be most of the summer gone already. Did you have to physically go into the office or were you able to resolve it by phone eventually?

When I moved I just went to the county office in person with my ID and proof of new address (my lease). They updated everything right there. Much easier than trying to call!!

I work during all their open hours so taking time off is really hard for me. Plus I have to arrange childcare. Really hoping to find a phone solution but might have to bite the bullet and go in person if that's the only way.

Hi there! To resolve this quickly, you need to do three things: 1. Update your address in the BenefitsCal portal immediately (https://benefitscal.com) 2. Call your county CalFresh office and specifically ask to speak with a worker about "Summer EBT card address redirection" - use those exact words 3. If your neighbor can safely collect and hold your mail, ask them to do so while you get this resolved The Summer EBT program for 2025 provides $120 per eligible child for the summer months, so it's definitely worth making sure you receive those cards! The county can issue replacement cards, but it's much faster if you can update your info before they're mailed out. Also, remember that when you move, you need to report your new address within 10 days to avoid any potential issues with your regular CalFresh benefits.

Thank you for such detailed info! I updated my address on BenefitsCal last night, but still can't get through to anyone on the phone. I've been calling the main county line but keep getting disconnected after waiting for 45+ minutes.

Try using Claimyr if you're having trouble getting through on the phone. I was in a similar situation with my CalFresh benefits and couldn't reach anyone for days. Claimyr got me connected to an actual worker in about 20 minutes instead of waiting on hold for hours or getting disconnected. They have a video demo at https://youtu.be/eZ19FHRETv8?si=_CXnXqNXbLl26WB8 that shows how it works. Their website is claimyr.com - definitely saved me when I needed to update information quickly for my benefits.

hey question - are you sure your kids are even eligible for the summer EBT? i thought that was only for school age kids? how old are yours? i got denied last year cuz my youngest was still in preschool

Mine are 6, 8, and 11 so they're all in elementary/middle school. But that's good to know about the age requirements - I didn't realize preschoolers weren't eligible!

Just to clarify, for 2025, Summer EBT is available for children who are eligible for free or reduced-price meals during the school year, which includes school-aged children (K-12). The program is mainly for kids who would normally receive free/reduced meals during the school year but might face food insecurity during summer months when school is out.

I had success using Claimyr to get through to a CalFresh worker when dealing with my Summer EBT address issue. Worth the time saved honestly!

Is this a paid service? I'm already struggling financially which is why I need CalFresh in the first place. Shouldn't have to PAY MONEY just to talk to someone about my benefits!!!

I understand the frustration! For me it was worth it to avoid taking unpaid time off work to visit the office in person. But everyone's situation is different. You can also try calling right when they open in the morning, sometimes the wait is shorter then.

Another option is to submit an address change through your county's CalFresh portal and specifically note in the comments that it's urgent because of Summer EBT cards. Some counties are more responsive to online communications than phone calls. Also, check if your county has a specific email address for urgent matters - Santa Clara County, for example, has a dedicated email for time-sensitive issues. Regarding your regular CalFresh benefits, once you update your address, make sure to also request a replacement EBT card if you're not able to get your current one from your old address. This is a separate process from the Summer EBT cards.

Thank you! I'll try the portal again with an urgent note. I'm in Alameda County - does anyone know if they have a specific email for urgent matters like this?

UPDATE: I finally got through to someone at the county office! Called right when they opened at 8am like someone suggested. The worker said they hadn't mailed out the Summer EBT cards yet for my area, so my address change should take effect in time. She also said I needed to submit a signed form to officially change my address for all benefits (the online update wasn't enough). Just wanted to let everyone know in case someone else has the same issue!

Great news! Yes, it's important for everyone to know that some counties require the signed form (CF 37) for official address changes even if you update online. Glad you caught this before the cards were mailed out!

So glad you got it resolved! Thanks for sharing the update - this is really helpful info for others who might face the same situation. The tip about calling right at 8am is gold, and knowing that some counties require the signed form even after online updates is crucial. Hope your kids get their Summer EBT cards without any issues now!

That's such a relief that you got it sorted out! Your experience is really valuable for other parents - I had no idea that some counties require both the online update AND a signed form. I'm dealing with a similar address change situation right now and was only planning to do the online update. Do you know if the CF 37 form is the same one used across all California counties, or does each county have their own version? Also, did they give you a timeline for when the address change would be fully processed?

Hey! I'm new to this community but dealing with a similar situation right now. @Jamal Anderson - did they tell you how long it takes for the signed form to be processed? I just moved too and want to make sure I get this sorted before any cards get sent out. Also wondering if I can email or fax the CF 37 form or if it has to be mailed in? Thanks for sharing your experience - super helpful for those of us figuring this out!
