Will my P-EBT card come to new address after moving 3 months ago?
I moved to a new apartment about 3 months ago and updated my address with CalFresh right away (got that confirmation letter and everything). But now I'm worried about my P-EBT benefits. I have two kids in elementary school who qualify for free lunch, and we're supposed to get P-EBT cards for the 2024-2025 school year. Will those automatically come to my new address since I updated it with the county, or do I need to do something separate for P-EBT? I don't want to miss those benefits because the kids' school mentioned they should be coming out next month. Anyone know how the P-EBT address system works with CalFresh?

•Yes I did update with the school when we registered for the new school year! So hopefully that means we're good? Just nervous because these benefits really help our family budget.

P-EBT and CalFresh use different systems, but they're supposed to communicate with each other. When you updated your address with CalFresh, that should have been shared with the P-EBT system if your children are linked to your case. However, the school's address information is actually the primary source for P-EBT mailings. To be absolutely certain, you should: 1. Verify your address is current in the school system (which you've done) 2. Call the P-EBT hotline at 877-328-9677 to confirm your address is updated in their system specifically Since it's been 3 months since you moved, you should have enough time to make any corrections before the new cards are issued for the 2024-2025 school year.

•Thank you so much for that detailed info! I'll call the P-EBT hotline tomorrow just to make sure. Do you know if they'll be able to see in their system if my kids are already slated to receive the cards? Or is it too early for that?

•They should be able to tell you if your children are in their system as eligible recipients, but they might not have the exact issuance date information yet. The P-EBT distribution schedule can sometimes change, but they can at least confirm if your children are in the database and verify the address they have on file.

When I moved last year, I updated my address with CalFresh but my P-EBT card still went to my old address! Turns out the P-EBT system pulls from both CalFresh AND school district databases, but sometimes there's a lag in updates. If you're worried about missing it, I'd recommend using Claimyr to get through to a live CalFresh worker quickly (https://claimyr.com). I used their service when I was dealing with my address mix-up, and they got me connected to someone who could specifically note in my file that my P-EBT should go to my new address. There's a video that shows how it works: https://youtu.be/eZ19FHRETv8?si=_CXnXqNXbLl26WB8 It saved me from waiting on hold for hours, and the worker was able to flag my account to make sure the P-EBT system had my correct info. Worth it for peace of mind!

•That's really helpful! I didn't know there was a service like that. I've sat on hold with the county for over an hour before just to get disconnected. I'll check out that video. Did they actually solve your P-EBT address issue when you called?

•Yes! The CalFresh worker I spoke with was able to add a special note to my case that flagged it for the P-EBT team. She also gave me a direct reference number to use if I needed to follow up specifically about the P-EBT card. My kids' cards came to the correct address about 3 weeks later.

The P-EBT cards are SOOOO confusing!! I had to call like 5 different places when mine didn't show up last year. First CalFresh said call the school, then school said call P-EBT, then P-EBT said call CalFresh again... it was a NIGHTMARE. And nobody could even tell me if my kids were getting cards or not!! BUT I will say updating your address with BOTH the school AND CalFresh is definitely the right first step. Better than what I did lol. Just keep all your confirmation papers in case you need to prove you changed your address. The system is sooooo broken.

•That sounds stressful! Did your kids eventually get their cards? I'm hoping since I updated both places early enough it'll be okay, but now I'm getting worried...

I work closely with several schools in the area, and I can tell you that the P-EBT system primarily uses the address in the school database, not CalFresh. Since you've updated your address with the school, you should be fine. One thing to note - if your children switched schools completely (not just your address changing), make sure the new school has them properly registered for the free/reduced lunch program. Sometimes that information doesn't transfer automatically between districts and can affect P-EBT eligibility. The P-EBT cards for the 2024-2025 school year should be mailing out in batches starting next month through September.

•Thank you for this insider information! We stayed in the same school district, just moved to a different apartment complex, so hopefully that makes things simpler. Do you know if there's any way to check online whether my kids are properly registered for the free lunch program? Or do I need to call the school directly?

•Oh no! That's exactly what I'm afraid of. Who did you end up calling to fix it? The P-EBT hotline or CalFresh or someone else?

Has anyone actually received P-EBT cards for 2024-2025 yet? I thought they weren't being sent out until August at the earliest? At least that's what our school district told us.

•Our school sent a notice saying they'd start going out in May, but maybe it varies by district? I just want to make sure we're set up correctly before they start sending them out.

•You're both correct in a way. The P-EBT program distribution schedule varies by county and district. Some areas begin distribution in May, while others don't start until August or even September. The staggered release helps manage the system load and customer service capacity.

One more thing I'd recommend - take screenshots of your updated address in both your CalFresh account and your children's school portal (if they have one). Documentation is extremely helpful if there's any issue with your P-EBT cards being sent to the wrong address. With those screenshots, you can prove you did everything correctly if you need to request replacement cards.

•That's really smart! I'll do that today. I have the confirmation letter from CalFresh, but I'll get screenshots from the school portal too just to be safe. Thank you!

does anyone know if p-ebt benefits expire? found old card from 2023 and wondering if money still on there??

•Yes, P-EBT benefits do expire, but they typically remain active for at least a year from the date they were issued. If your card is from 2023, the benefits are likely still available. You can check the balance by calling the number on the back of the card. Unlike regular CalFresh benefits, P-EBT doesn't expire month-to-month - you have the full period (usually 12 months) to use the entire benefit amount.

I went through this exact same situation last year! When I moved, I updated my address with CalFresh immediately but forgot to update it with the school district. My P-EBT card ended up going to my old address and it was such a hassle to get it sorted out. The key thing is that P-EBT primarily pulls address info from the school system, not CalFresh. Since you updated both places, you should be in good shape! But definitely call that P-EBT hotline number that Sean mentioned (877-328-9677) just to double-check. When I called, they were able to confirm my kids were in the system and verify the address they had on file. Also, keep an eye on your mail around the time they're supposed to be distributed. If it doesn't show up within a week or two of when other families in your area are getting theirs, call immediately. The sooner you catch any address issues, the easier they are to fix. Good luck!
