If I could give 10 stars I would

If I could give 10 stars I would If I could give 10 stars I would Such an amazing service so needed during the times when EDD almost never picks up Claimyr gets me on the phone with EDD every time without fail faster. A much needed service without Claimyr I would have never received the payment I needed to support me during my postpartum recovery. Thank you so much Claimyr!

Really made a difference

Really made a difference, save me time and energy from going to a local office for making the call.

Worth not wasting your time calling for hours.

Was a bit nervous or untrusting at first, but my calls went thru. First time the wait was a bit long but their customer chat line on their page was helpful and put me at ease that I would receive my call. Today my call dropped because of EDD and Claimyr heard my concern on the same chat and another call was made within the hour.

An incredibly helpful service

An incredibly helpful service! Got me connected to a CA EDD agent without major hassle (outside of EDD's agents dropping calls – which Claimyr has free protection for). If you need to file a new claim and can't do it online, pay the $ to Claimyr to get the process started. Absolutely worth it!

Consistent,frustration free, quality Service.

Used this service a couple times now. Before I'd call 200 times in less than a weak frustrated as can be. But using claimyr with a couple hours of waiting i was on the line with an representative or on hold. Dropped a couple times but each reconnected not long after and was mission accomplished, thanks to Claimyr.

IT WORKS!! Not a scam!

I tried for weeks to get thru to EDD PFL program with no luck. I gave this a try thinking it may be a scam. OMG! It worked and They got thru within an hour and my claim is going to finally get paid!! I upgraded to the $60 call. Best $60 spent!

I've been on CalFresh for about 6 months now and this thread is super informative! I had no idea about these disaster supplements until reading everyone's experiences. Just wanted to add that if anyone is having trouble getting through to their county office (which seems to be a common problem based on the comments), you can also try calling first thing in the morning right when they open - I've had better luck getting through around 8 AM. Also, some counties have online portals where you can send messages to your caseworker instead of calling, which might be easier than waiting on hold for hours. Thanks to everyone who explained the different types of supplements - it really helps newcomers like me understand how the system works!

That's a great tip about calling early in the morning! I've noticed the same thing - the phone lines seem much less busy right when they open. The online portal suggestion is really helpful too, though I think not all counties have that feature yet. It's frustrating how inconsistent the systems are between different counties. I'm still pretty new to all this myself, but this community has been amazing for learning how everything works. It's kind of overwhelming at first with all the different rules and potential supplements, but threads like this really help break it down. Thanks for sharing your experience!

This whole thread has been really eye-opening for me as someone who just started receiving CalFresh benefits last month! I had no idea there were different types of emergency supplements and special payments that could show up. Reading about everyone's experiences with the disaster supplements and other adjustments really helps explain how the system works. It sounds like keeping good records and staying informed through county websites is key. I'm definitely going to bookmark this discussion and follow some of the advice about calling early in the morning if I ever need to reach my caseworker. Thanks to everyone who shared their knowledge - it's so helpful for newcomers like me to understand what's normal and what to expect!

I'm also pretty new to CalFresh (just got approved a few weeks ago) and this discussion has been incredibly helpful! It's reassuring to know that these emergency supplements are legitimate when they happen, and not something to worry about being taken back later. The advice about keeping screenshots and records of any unexpected deposits is something I definitely wouldn't have thought of on my own. I'm also glad to learn about calling early in the morning - I was dreading having to contact my caseworker because I'd heard the wait times were terrible. It's amazing how much you can learn from other people's experiences in the system!

I'm new to this community but wanted to share that I had a very similar experience last month. My EBT card suddenly stopped working at ATMs even though my food benefits were fine. After reading through all these helpful responses, I think it's worth mentioning that you can also check for any security blocks by logging into the ebtEDGE mobile app or website (ebtedge.com). Sometimes it shows alerts there that aren't visible in your regular BenefitsCal account. Also, if anyone is in this situation in the future and really can't wait for the county office or phone support, some counties have emergency assistance programs where you can get help the same day. It's not widely advertised but worth asking about if you're in crisis mode like the original poster was. Really glad to see this got resolved quickly!

This is really useful information about the ebtEDGE app! I wish I had known about that when I was dealing with my card issues. It would have saved me a lot of stress to at least see what was wrong instead of just getting that vague "contact bank" message at every ATM. Thanks for mentioning the emergency assistance programs too - it's good to know there are options for people who can't wait for regular support channels. I'm definitely bookmarking this thread for future reference!

This whole thread is incredibly helpful! As someone who's been on CalFresh/CalWORKs for about 6 months now, I had no idea about so many of these issues and solutions. The fraud alert blocking is especially concerning - it seems like the system is almost designed to create problems when people are already in vulnerable situations. I'm definitely going to download that ebtEDGE app and save the Claimyr information just in case. It's really frustrating that accessing basic benefits requires so much technical knowledge and backup plans. Thank you everyone for sharing your experiences and solutions - this is exactly the kind of community support that makes a real difference for people navigating these systems!

You're absolutely right about the system seeming designed to create problems when people are most vulnerable! I'm also relatively new to CalFresh/CalWORKs and this thread has been a real eye-opener. It's honestly shocking that something as basic as accessing your benefits can become such a technical nightmare. The fact that we need special services like Claimyr just to reach a human being at the county office really says something about how broken the system is. I'm grateful for communities like this where people share real solutions instead of just the official runaround. Definitely saving all this info too - seems like it's not a matter of IF these problems will happen, but WHEN. Thanks to everyone who took the time to help the original poster and share their experiences!

I'm 64 and have been on CalFresh for about a year now - wish I had known about RMP from the beginning! This entire discussion has been incredibly eye-opening. Like so many others here, my caseworker never mentioned the Restaurant Meals Program during my application process, which seems like a real disservice to eligible seniors. I'm in Sacramento County and plan to call tomorrow to request enrollment. Based on everyone's experiences, it sounds like Sacramento should be one of the participating counties. The advice about using the specific terminology "Restaurant Meals Program enrollment" and asking for a confirmation number is so valuable - I never would have thought of those details. One thing I'm curious about that I haven't seen addressed much: for those who have been using RMP for a while, have you noticed any seasonal changes in which restaurants participate? I'm wondering if some places opt in or out of the program periodically, or if the list stays pretty consistent once established. Also, has anyone had experience using RMP during holidays when some restaurants might have limited menus? Thanks to everyone for creating such a helpful resource here - this community support makes navigating these programs so much less intimidating!

Great questions about seasonal changes and holiday usage! I've been using RMP for about 8 months now in LA County and have noticed a few things. Most of the major chain restaurants (like Subway, Denny's, certain McDonald's) stay consistent year-round, but I have seen a couple smaller local places drop out of the program - not sure if it was seasonal or just business decisions on their part. For holidays, I've used my card on Thanksgiving and Christmas at places like Denny's and a few 24-hour spots that were open. The RMP still worked fine, though you're right that some places had limited holiday menus. I'd recommend calling ahead on major holidays to confirm both that they're open AND that their full RMP menu is available. Sacramento County definitely participates - you should have good luck with enrollment! One tip I'd add: once you get your restaurant list, maybe try visiting a few different places in your first week or two just to get comfortable with the process and see which locations have the most RMP-friendly staff. Some places are much smoother about processing the transactions than others. Good luck with your call tomorrow!

I'm 71 and have been on CalFresh for about 3 months - had absolutely no idea about the Restaurant Meals Program until reading this entire thread! This is such valuable information that clearly isn't being shared widely enough. My caseworker never mentioned it during my application, and I've been struggling with meal prep lately due to mobility issues. Reading everyone's experiences gives me confidence to call my county office (San Francisco) tomorrow. I'm going to use the advice about specifically asking for "Restaurant Meals Program enrollment" and requesting both a confirmation number and the official restaurant list. The tip about testing your card with a small purchase first is really smart too. It's frustrating that we have to stumble across this information by chance rather than being informed about it upfront. For seniors who qualify by age, this should be automatic enrollment or at least prominently mentioned during the CalFresh application process. Thank you to everyone who shared their experiences - this thread has been more helpful than any government resource I've found!

You're absolutely right that this should be automatic enrollment or at least prominently mentioned during applications! I'm 59 (so close to qualifying by age) but I qualify through disability benefits. Like you, I had no idea this program existed until finding discussions like this online. It's really concerning how many eligible people are missing out on this benefit simply because they weren't informed about it. San Francisco County definitely participates in RMP and from what I've heard from others, they're pretty good about handling enrollment over the phone. The mobility issues you mentioned are exactly why this program exists - it's designed to help people who have difficulty with meal preparation access nutritious hot meals. Don't feel bad about needing this assistance - it's a legitimate benefit that you've earned! One additional tip for when you call: if the first person doesn't seem familiar with RMP, ask to be transferred to someone who specializes in senior benefits or disability programs. Sometimes the general intake workers aren't as knowledgeable about these specific programs. Good luck tomorrow, and I hope the enrollment process goes smoothly for you!

As someone who just got approved for CalFresh benefits two weeks ago, this entire thread has been absolutely incredible! I was in the exact same situation as you - working long hours at my job and really hoping I could grab something quick from places like McDonald's or Taco Bell with my EBT card. It's definitely disappointing to learn that the Restaurant Meals Program is so limited to only homeless, elderly (60+), or disabled individuals, but honestly all the grocery store alternatives everyone has shared sound way better than I initially thought! I had no clue about the cold prepared foods rule - knowing that I can buy deli sandwiches, cold rotisserie chicken, sushi, and pre-made salads with my EBT card is going to be perfect for my hectic work schedule. The microwave hack is absolutely brilliant! Being able to buy cold prepared foods and then heat them up in the grocery store's seating area basically gives you your own fast-casual restaurant experience. I'm definitely planning to explore the prepared foods sections at my local Trader Joe's and Safeway this weekend. Also really appreciate the tip about checking out gas stations and convenience stores for EBT-eligible cold foods - there's a Wawa right near my workplace that I walk past every day and never thought to look at their grab-and-go options. Thanks everyone for sharing such practical, real-world advice! This community has turned what seemed like a major limitation into discovering so many convenient meal solutions I never knew existed. Really grateful for all the tips from people who actually navigate CalFresh day-to-day!

Welcome to CalFresh! I'm also super new to this - just got my benefits approved last week and had the exact same question about fast food restaurants. This thread has been such an amazing resource for learning all the rules and workarounds! Like you, I was initially bummed about the Restaurant Meals Program restrictions, but honestly the grocery store prepared foods options sound way more convenient and affordable than I expected. I'm definitely planning to check out my local Trader Joe's this weekend based on everyone's recommendations - the idea of being able to get sushi or a nice deli sandwich with EBT benefits feels like such a win! It's so encouraging to see how this community shares practical solutions that make CalFresh work for busy people like us. Thanks for sharing your experience - it's great to connect with other newcomers who are figuring this all out at the same time!

As someone who just received my CalFresh benefits this week, this thread has been absolutely life-changing! I was in the exact same situation as the OP - working two jobs and really hoping I could use my EBT card at places like Subway or KFC between shifts. While it's definitely a bummer that the Restaurant Meals Program is so restrictive (I don't qualify since I'm not elderly, homeless, or disabled), all the grocery store alternatives everyone has shared are actually incredible! I had no idea about the cold prepared foods rule - being able to buy deli sandwiches, cold rotisserie chicken, sushi, and pre-made salads with my EBT card is going to be such a lifesaver for my crazy schedule. The grocery store microwave hack is absolutely genius! Buying cold prepared foods and heating them up in the store's seating area basically creates your own personal fast-casual dining experience. I'm definitely checking out the prepared foods sections at my local Kroger and Whole Foods this weekend. I also love the gas station suggestion - there's a 7-Eleven right by my second job that I never thought to explore for EBT-eligible cold foods. And the frozen meal options for quick microwave dinners at home sound perfect for those really exhausting days. Thanks everyone for turning what seemed like a major disappointment into discovering so many convenient meal solutions I never knew existed! This community is amazing for sharing practical advice that actually helps newcomers like us make CalFresh work with our real-world schedules.

Just wanted to add my experience from the Bay Area! I've had success using EBT for seeds and plants at several locations that haven't been mentioned yet: - Lucky supermarket (they have a small garden section in spring) - Some independent Mexican markets that sell vegetable plants - Berkeley Bowl (amazing selection of organic starts and heirloom seeds) One thing I learned the hard way - don't assume all "vegetable" plants qualify! I tried to buy ornamental kale with my EBT thinking it was food, but the cashier explained that decorative varieties don't count even if they're technically edible. Has to be specifically labeled as food-producing. Also wanted to mention for apartment dwellers like me - window boxes work great for herbs and lettuce! I'm growing cilantro, green onions, and baby spinach in my kitchen window and it's already paid for itself in just 6 weeks. Green onions are especially awesome because you can regrow them from the roots of store-bought ones - basically free food forever! The key is starting small and building confidence. My first year I tried to plant everything and half of it died. This year I focused on just 5 types of plants and I'm getting way better results. Don't get discouraged if you're new to this - even experienced gardeners kill plants sometimes!

Thanks for mentioning Berkeley Bowl and the Mexican markets! I never would have thought to check independent markets for plants. That tip about ornamental vs food varieties is super important - I definitely would have made that mistake with decorative kale! The green onion regrowth hack sounds amazing! Do you just put the white root parts in water or do they need soil? I go through a lot of green onions and buying them every week adds up fast. Window box gardening sounds perfect for my tiny apartment too. Did you need any special setup for drainage or lighting, or do they do okay with just regular window light? Your advice about starting small really resonates with me. I was getting overwhelmed thinking about everything I wanted to grow, but focusing on just a few plants that actually produce well makes way more sense. Thanks for the reality check that even experienced gardeners lose plants sometimes - that makes me feel less nervous about trying!

This thread is a goldmine of information! I'm so grateful to everyone who shared their experiences. I just started receiving CalFresh benefits last month and had no clue about being able to buy seeds and plants. With how expensive groceries have gotten, this could be a real game-changer for my budget. I'm planning to hit up Target this weekend based on all the positive experiences people shared. Going to start super simple with maybe some basil, cilantro, and cherry tomatoes in containers since I'm renting and can't do a full garden. One question - does anyone know if there are any restrictions on buying potting soil or containers with EBT, or is it just the actual seeds/plants? I assume soil and pots don't qualify since they're not food, but thought I'd ask in case anyone has tried! Also really excited to look into the farmers markets with Market Match programs. Doubling my buying power for fresh, local plants sounds incredible. This community has been so helpful - thank you all for taking the time to share your knowledge and experiences!
