Where to find EBT phone replacement sites in Los Angeles? CalFresh card emergency help needed

Hi everyone. My EBT card just died yesterday (won't swipe anywhere) and I'm freaking out because I just got my CalFresh benefits loaded two days ago. I called the main EBT customer service number but they said replacement cards have to be mailed and could take 7-10 days. I CAN'T wait that long - I have three kids and we need groceries now! Someone at the grocery store told me there used to be places in LA that could print EBT cards same-day but I can't find any info online. Are there still any county offices in Los Angeles that do emergency EBT card replacements? Willing to drive anywhere in LA County for this. Please help!!

Yes, there are definitely places in LA that can issue replacement EBT cards same day! The DPSS offices with same-day card printing are: - Glendale DPSS (4680 San Fernando Rd) - Metro North (2601 Wilshire Blvd) - South Family (17600 Santa Fe Ave, Rancho Dominguez) - Lancaster (349 East Ave K-6) You'll need to bring your ID and they can print a new card on the spot. They're open Monday-Friday from 8am-5pm. If possible, call ahead to confirm they have card printing available that day. Hope this helps!

Thank you so much! Do you know if I need an appointment or can I just walk in? And will they have access to my current balance or do I need to bring any benefit paperwork with me?

I had to do this last year and it was SUCH a nightmare. I spent 4 hours at the DPSS office just to be told they couldn't help me because their card printer was down!!! Ended up having to go to a different office the next day and wait AGAIN. The whole system is designed to make us suffer I swear. And half the workers don't even know their own policies. One told me they don't do same-day cards AT ALL which is complete BS. Good luck dealing with this disaster of a system.

This happened to me too! The Glendale office said their printer was broken when I got to the front of the line after waiting 3 hours. So frustrating when you're depending on those benefits to feed your family.

Just to add some important info - when you go to the DPSS office, make sure to tell them at check-in that you need an emergency replacement EBT card. They have a specific form for this called an "Emergency Card Replacement Request" that needs to be filled out. This puts you in a different queue than regular business. Also, if you absolutely can't make it to an office during business hours, you can request an expedited mailed card that should arrive in 3-4 business days instead of the standard 7-10. You need to specifically request the "expedited processing" when you call the EBT customer service line at 1-877-328-9677. The LA County DPSS website (dpss.lacounty.gov) has a location finder tool where you can see which offices offer card printing services, as not all do. Hope this helps!

Thank you for the detailed info! I hadn't heard about the expedited mailing option, but I really need access to my benefits ASAP so I'll definitely go in person. I'll make sure to ask for the emergency replacement form specifically.

Omg this happened to me last month with my CalFresh EBT card! I tried calling the county for 3 days straight and couldn't get through to anyone. Kept getting disconnected after being on hold forever. So frustrating!!! I finally used this service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that got me through to an actual person at DPSS in like 15 minutes. They have this video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/eZ19FHRETv8?si=_CXnXqNXbLl26WB8 The worker told me exactly which office to go to for same-day card printing and even noted in my file that I was coming so they were expecting me. WAY better than trying to figure it out myself!

i used this too! works good when u cant get thru to nobody and keep getting disconnected

Hi there, I work as a benefits counselor in LA County. Just to clarify some information about emergency EBT card replacements: 1. All District DPSS offices CAN issue same-day EBT cards, but not all have functioning card printers every day (they break down frequently) 2. The most reliable offices for card printing are Glendale, Lancaster, and South Family 3. You must bring PHOTO ID that matches your CalFresh case information 4. If your address has changed since you applied, bring proof of your new address 5. The replacement is free for the first lost/damaged card in a calendar year, then $5 for subsequent replacements One important thing not mentioned - if you can't physically get to an office, you can authorize someone else to pick up your card if they have a signed letter from you and their own ID. This helps if you have transportation issues.

Thank you so much for this official information! I didn't realize all DPSS offices could potentially issue cards. And good to know about the fee structure - this is my first replacement so it should be free.

i went to the glendale one last week for my calfresh ebt card and they told me they only do card printing on mon, wed, fri now because of budget cuts?? might wanna call first. the whole system is a mess tbh

This is correct - as of April 2025, several DPSS offices have reduced their card printing services to alternating days due to staffing limitations. Always best to call the office directly before going. The DPSS main line can confirm which offices have card printing available on which days.

wait I'm confused... are we talking about the California EBT cards for CalFresh or the P-EBT cards for kids? because those are totally different systems. I lost my P-EBT card and they told me it HAD to be mailed, no exceptions. Only regular CalFresh EBT cards can be printed at DPSS offices. Make sure you're getting advice for the right program!

It's the regular CalFresh EBT card! The green one. Not P-EBT. Thanks for checking though, good to clarify.

I just wanted to follow up - were you able to get your replacement card? Which office did you end up going to? It would be helpful for others to know your experience.

Yes! I went to the Glendale office yesterday morning, got there at 7:30am (they open at 8) and there was already a line. But I told them at check-in I needed an emergency EBT replacement and they gave me a special form. Still took about 2 hours total but I got my new card with all my benefits intact! Definitely bring ID and be prepared to wait, but it worked out. Thank you all for the help!

So glad you were able to get your card replaced! Thanks for updating us on your experience - that's really helpful info for anyone else who might find themselves in this situation. The 7:30am arrival time is a good tip since you still had to wait 2 hours even getting there early. It's frustrating how long these processes take when people are in emergency situations, but at least the system worked in the end. Hope you and your kids are able to get the groceries you need now!

This thread is a perfect example of why I love this community! As someone who's been on CalFresh for about 6 months now, I was always worried about what would happen if my EBT card stopped working. Reading through everyone's experiences and advice here has been incredibly educational. I had no idea about the emergency replacement forms or that certain offices had card printing on alternating days due to budget cuts. @Carmen Lopez, your professional insights as a benefits counselor are invaluable - especially the tip about authorizing someone else to pick up the card if you can't get there yourself. That could be a real lifesaver for people with disabilities or transportation issues. @Luca Romano, I'm so relieved you got your card replaced and your kids can eat! The 7:30am arrival time for an 8am opening is definitely something I'll remember if I ever need emergency replacement. It's ridiculous that families have to go through such stress when they're already struggling, but at least we have this community to share knowledge and support each other.

I'm also relatively new here and this thread has been such an eye-opener! I had no idea there were same-day EBT replacement options - I always assumed you had to wait for mail delivery like most government services. The community knowledge here is amazing. @Carmen Lopez, thank you for sharing those professional insights about the authorization letter option - that's something that should probably be more widely publicized since many people might not know that's possible. And @Luca Romano, what a relief that everything worked out for you and your family! It's great to see the community come together to help someone in a real emergency situation.

As someone who just joined this community, this entire thread has been incredibly helpful! I'm currently on CalFresh and had no idea there were same-day EBT replacement options available. Reading through everyone's experiences really highlights how important it is to have this kind of peer support network. @Luca Romano - I'm so glad you were able to get your card replaced and feed your family! Your follow-up with the specific timing and process details will definitely help other parents who find themselves in similar emergency situations. @Carmen Lopez - Thank you for providing the official perspective as a benefits counselor. The information about the emergency replacement forms, fee structure, and authorization letters for pickup is exactly the kind of insider knowledge that can make a huge difference when someone is stressed and doesn't know where to turn. One thing I noticed from reading through all the responses is how inconsistent the information can be from different DPSS workers, and how equipment issues (like broken card printers) can really throw a wrench in the process. It seems like having backup options and calling ahead is crucial. This community is such a valuable resource for navigating these challenges!

Welcome to the community! I'm also fairly new here and this thread has been such a learning experience. It's amazing how much valuable information gets shared when people come together to help each other out. The inconsistency you mentioned with DPSS workers is so real - I think that's why communities like this are so important. We can share the actual experiences and workarounds that people have discovered through trial and error. @Luca Romano s'success story really shows that persistence pays off, and @Carmen Lopez s professional'insights give us the official framework to work within. It s reassuring'to know there are people here who genuinely want to help others navigate these complex systems!

This thread is such a great example of how powerful community support can be! I'm relatively new to both CalFresh and this community, and reading through everyone's experiences has been incredibly educational. What really stands out to me is how @Carmen Lopez provided that crucial professional insight about the emergency replacement forms and authorization letters - that's the kind of "insider" information that can make all the difference when you're in crisis mode. And @Luca Romano, I'm so relieved you got your card sorted out! Your detailed follow-up about the timing and process will definitely help other parents in similar situations. I had no idea that DPSS offices could print cards same-day - I always thought everything had to be mailed. It's frustrating to learn that equipment breakdowns and budget cuts are making the service less reliable, but at least now I know what questions to ask and which offices to try first if I ever need emergency replacement. The tip about arriving super early even when offices aren't open yet is something I'll definitely remember. Thanks everyone for creating such a supportive space where people can get real, practical help when they need it most!

And @Luca Romano s success'story gives me confidence that if I ever face a similar emergency, there are actually solutions available - even if it means getting up super early and waiting in line for hours. It s such'a relief to know this support network exists!
