Just to clarify for everyone: The Winter Relief Supplement is being distributed to ALL CalFresh households in Los Angeles County in batches from January 13-18, 2025. Each zip code range has specific days. Here's the exact schedule for Palmdale areas: 93550: January 14-15 93551: January 15-16 93552: January 15-16 93590/93591/93599: January 16-17 The amount is 40% of your regular benefit, and it will have a separate transaction description on your EBT account history labeled "WINTER RELIEF SUPP". This is separate from regular CalFresh benefits AND separate from the SNB (Supplemental Nutrition Benefit) that some households receive.
These P-EBT rollouts are ALWAYS a mess! My sister's kids got their benefits two weeks ago but her neighbor's kids (same school, same eligibility) got nothing. The whole system is so disorganized. And good luck getting through on the phone - I spent THREE DAYS trying to reach someone last reload period. The state needs to hire more people or fix their stupid system!!!
UPDATE: Just got my extra allotment today (May 17th)! For anyone wondering, it showed up as a separate deposit on my EBT account, not combined with my regular benefits. I got almost exactly 60% of my normal monthly amount, just like someone mentioned above. So relieved! Thanks everyone for your help!
still waiting for mine... but congrats!!! this gives me hope! did u get any kind of notification or text? or did it just appear?
For anyone still waiting: according to the CalFresh website, all disaster supplements should be issued by May 22nd. If you don't receive it by then AND you're in one of the 12 declared counties, you should contact your county office. Remember you need to have been a CalFresh recipient in March when the flooding occurred to qualify for this particular supplement. Also, this is separate from any individual FEMA assistance you might qualify for if your home was damaged.
Quick question - do we need to have reported damage to qualify? My apartment had some minor leaking but nothing I reported anywhere.
One more tip about the Long Beach office - they're really strict about appointment times. If you're more than 15 minutes late, they'll make you reschedule. The old office had a 30-minute grace period. Also bring a water bottle and snack just in case. Their vending machine was broken when I was there.
To answer your follow-up question - they are NOT open on Saturdays. Their hours are Monday-Friday 8:30am-5pm, but they stop taking new check-ins at 4:30pm. They do have early hours on Wednesdays (7:30am opening) which might help with your work schedule. And yes, they do have separate lines for appointments vs. walk-ins. Appointments are prioritized, which is another reason to make sure you have one rather than just showing up. The electronic check-in system asks for your appointment confirmation number.

•P-EBT cards work at the same retailers that accept regular EBT/CalFresh. Any grocery store, supermarket, or convenience store that has the EBT sign or logo should accept P-EBT. However, some smaller stores might not be familiar with P-EBT cards specifically and might incorrectly tell you they don't accept them. If that happens, you can explain that it works exactly like a regular EBT card because it uses the same system. Also, remember that P-EBT benefits, like regular CalFresh, can only be used for food items - not for hot prepared foods, alcohol, non-food items, etc.

Thank you everyone for all the helpful information! I called the county office this morning (used that Claimyr service someone mentioned - it really worked!) and got some answers. The worker confirmed that my other three kids should be getting P-EBT cards too, they're just sending them in batches over the next few weeks. She verified all my kids are properly listed with their current schools. She also explained that this benefit is completely separate from our regular CalFresh, so I'll continue getting our usual amount on our regular EBT card. The P-EBT cards are just additional help specifically for the kids because they qualify for free school meals. I'm going to activate my 6-year-old's card today and start using it. And I'll keep an eye out for the other cards in the mail. Thanks again for clearing up my confusion!

•That's great news! Just remember to keep each P-EBT card separate and remember which PIN goes with which card. It can get confusing managing multiple cards. Also, it's a good idea to check the balance on each card before shopping. You can do this by calling the number on the back of the card or checking online at www.ebt.ca.gov. Glad you got everything sorted out!
