CalFresh not updating income - need advice ASAP!

Hey everyone, I'm having trouble with CalFresh not updating my income. I've had some changes recently and I need to get this sorted out. Has anyone else dealt with this? What should I do when I finally get through to them on the phone?

I found a way to solve CalFresh income update delays, watch this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U9f99mvclww

Ugh, I feel ya. I had the same issue last month. Make sure you have all your recent pay stubs ready when you call. They'll probably ask for proof of the income change. Good luck getting through tho, the wait times are insane 🙄

Thanks for the tip! How long did it take for them to process your update once you got through?

It took about a week after I talked to someone. But honestly, it felt like forever 😩 Just keep following up if you don't hear back

a WEEK?? 😱 I've been waiting for almost a month now. This is ridiculous!

Pro tip: call right when they open in the morning. I got through in like 15 minutes last time I tried that. Also, be super nice to the person who answers, even if youre frustrated. They deal with angry people all day and being kind can go a long way!

I found a way to get someone on the phone without waiting forever. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Check out this video for more info: https://youtu.be/iYFSA6RTlOI

Sounds too good to be true. Has anyone else tried this?

$20 just to talk to someone? That's crazy! The system is so broken 😤

I know it sounds sketchy, but I swear it worked for me. Saved me hours of frustration. Worth every penny imho

Can confirm, I used it last week. Felt weird paying but man, it was nice not to be on hold all day

Here's what you need to do step by step: 1. Gather all your income documents (pay stubs, bank statements, etc.) 2. Call the CalFresh office early in the morning 3. Explain your situation clearly and calmly 4. Ask for a supervisor if the first person can't help 5. Request a confirmation number or email for your records 6. Follow up in a week if you haven't heard anything I've been through this process multiple times and this approach usually works. Don't give up!

have you tried updating your income online? sometimes its faster then calling

0 coins

I didn't even know that was an option! I'll check it out, thanks!

Online never works for me. Always get some error 🙄 But maybe OP will have better luck

This whole system is a joke. I've been trying to update my info for MONTHS. At this point, I'm about ready to give up on CalFresh altogether 😡

Don't give up! I know it sucks but we all need help sometimes. Keep pushing!

Thanks for the encouragement. Just feeling really defeated rn

I can't even get past the check your info part. It always tells me my info is wrong. I've called half a dozen numbers, even other counties who just give me a main medicaid number. So I'm going to try this tomorrow because my last worker cheated me out of 200$ a month while I was homeless, and for 6 months now, I've been trying to get through.

Quick question - did your income go up or down? If it went down, make sure to emphasize that when you talk to them. They tend to prioritize those cases from what I've heard.

Mason, I went through this exact same situation a few months ago! Here's what finally worked for me: I called the customer service line at 8 AM sharp (they open at 8) and was persistent but polite. When I got through, I had all my documents ready - recent pay stubs, bank statements, and a written summary of what changed with dates. The key thing is to ask them to put notes in your file about the call and get a case number. Also, if your income went DOWN, definitely mention that upfront - they prioritize those cases. Don't lose hope, it's frustrating but you'll get through it! 💪

This is incredibly helpful, thank you Jacob! I love that you gave specific timing and exactly what documents to have ready. The tip about asking for a case number is brilliant - I never would have thought of that. Really appreciate you taking the time to share your experience! 🙏

I'm dealing with this exact same issue right now! Been trying to update my income for weeks. One thing that helped me was going to my local office in person - sometimes they can do updates on the spot that take forever over the phone. Also, if you have to call, try calling different county offices. Some have shorter wait times than others. The whole system is so frustrating but don't give up! We're all in this together 💪

That's such a good point about going in person! I hadn't even considered that - sometimes face-to-face really does make a difference. And the tip about trying different county offices is genius! Do you know if there's a way to find out which counties have shorter wait times, or is it just trial and error? Thanks for the encouragement too, it really helps to know we're not alone in this struggle! 🤗
