Michigan UCC Search Login Portal Issues - Can't Access Database

Having major trouble accessing the michigan ucc search login system today. Keep getting timeout errors when trying to log into the database to verify some filing numbers for a continuation that's due next month. The portal worked fine last week but now it just spins and eventually kicks me out. Anyone else experiencing issues with the search function? I need to pull some UCC-1 records to cross-reference debtor names before submitting my UCC-3 continuation. This is pretty urgent since I'm cutting it close on the deadline.

I had the same problem yesterday around 2pm. Portal was completely down for about 3 hours. Tried calling the SOS office but got put on hold for 45 minutes. Eventually got through and they said they were doing system maintenance but didn't announce it anywhere. Typical.

They really need to give advance notice for maintenance windows. This isn't the first time I've been caught off guard trying to do last-minute searches.

exactly! especially when people are dealing with continuation deadlines

The search portal has been glitchy lately. I've found that clearing your browser cache and cookies sometimes helps. Also try using a different browser - I switched from Chrome to Firefox and it worked better. Make sure you're using the correct URL too, sometimes the old bookmarks stop working when they update the system.

Thanks, I'll try Firefox. Been using Chrome this whole time. Do you know if there's a specific time of day when the system is more reliable?

I usually have better luck in the mornings, before 10am. Afternoons can be really slow, especially Fridays.

Morning searches are definitely faster. I think a lot of firms do their UCC work in the afternoon so the system gets bogged down.

I've been dealing with this exact issue for weeks now. The login process is so unreliable that I started using Certana.ai's document verification tool instead. You can upload your existing UCC-1 and it'll verify all the debtor name details instantly without having to wrestle with the state portal. Super helpful when you're trying to prepare continuation filings and need to double-check everything matches up perfectly.

Interesting, never heard of that service. How does it work exactly? Do you still need to access the state database at some point?

You just upload PDFs of your documents and it cross-checks everything automatically. Really useful for catching debtor name mismatches that could cause filing rejections. I still use the state system for official searches but this helps me prepare everything correctly first.

That sounds like it could save a lot of time with document prep

The Michigan system has been a nightmare lately. I'm working on a commercial real estate deal and needed to verify some fixture filings from 2019. Took me three different sessions over two days to finally get the records I needed. The search results would load but then the detail pages wouldn't open. Super frustrating when you're trying to clear title issues.

Fixture filings are always tricky to search for anyway. The indexing isn't great even when the system is working properly.

True, but at least when the portal works you can eventually find what you need. When it's down you're just stuck.

Check if you're using the right login credentials. Michigan updated their authentication system a few months ago and some of the old account info doesn't work anymore. You might need to reset your password or create a new account. Also, they have different portals for different types of searches - make sure you're using the secured transaction database and not the corporate entity search.

Good point about the different portals. I think I might have been trying to use the wrong login page.

Yeah, the UCC search is separate from the corporate database. The URLs are similar but the login systems are different. Easy mistake to make.

I made that same mistake last month. Spent an hour trying to log in to the wrong system.

This is why I always do my UCC searches well ahead of any deadlines. The Michigan portal is notorious for going down at the worst possible times. If you're really stuck, you can request certified copies by mail but that takes 5-7 business days obviously.

Unfortunately I don't have that kind of time. The continuation deadline is coming up fast and I need to verify the debtor name spelling before filing.

In that case definitely try the browser switching suggestion. Or see if you can access it from a different network/computer.

I've had success calling the Secretary of State office directly when the online system is down. They can sometimes do manual searches over the phone if you explain it's for a time-sensitive filing. The wait times are long but it's better than missing a continuation deadline.

What number do you call? I tried the main SOS line but they just told me to use the website.

Try the UCC division directly. They have a separate number from the main switchboard. Usually more helpful for filing-specific issues.

Phone searches are really hit or miss though. Depends on who you get on the line.

Just tried logging in myself and I'm getting the same timeout errors. Looks like it might be a system-wide issue today. I needed to check on a termination filing I submitted last week to make sure it got processed correctly.

So it's not just us then. At least we know it's not a local problem.

0 coins

Nope, definitely seems to be affecting everyone. Hopefully they'll get it fixed soon.

For what it's worth, I've been using that Certana tool someone mentioned earlier and it's actually pretty solid. Helped me catch a debtor name discrepancy between my UCC-1 and the borrower's corporate charter that would have caused a rejection. The document comparison feature is really thorough.

0 coins

That's exactly the kind of thing I'm worried about. How quickly does it process the documents?

0 coins

Pretty much instant. Just upload the PDFs and it shows you any inconsistencies right away. Really helpful for avoiding those annoying rejection notices.

The portal seems to be working again now. Just successfully logged in and pulled some UCC-3 records. Maybe try again?

Just tried and got in! Thanks for the heads up. Must have been a temporary outage.

Good timing. These system issues never seem to last too long but they always happen at the worst moments.

For future reference, Michigan posts system status updates on their SOS Twitter account when there are known issues. Not the most obvious place to look but it's helpful to check if you're having problems.

Good to know! I never thought to check social media for system updates.

Yeah, they're pretty good about posting when they know there's a problem. Saves you from wondering if it's just your connection.
