When can I make corrections to my submitted FAFSA for 2025-2026?
I submitted my FAFSA like 3 weeks ago and just realized I messed up some of my income info. The studentaid.gov site isn't letting me make any corrections though? It just shows my application as "processing" and the correction tab is grayed out. I've been checking every day but nothing changes. Does anyone know when they'll open up the correction feature? I'm worried this is going to mess up my financial aid package and I really need maximum aid for my nursing program next year. This whole new FAFSA system is so frustrating!!

You can't make corrections until your FAFSA is fully processed and you receive your SAI (Student Aid Index). Processing is taking about 3-4 weeks right now with the new FAFSA system. Once it's processed, you'll get an email notification, and then the correction feature will become available on your studentaid.gov dashboard. Just be patient and keep checking your email daily.

•Thanks! Do you know if colleges will see my wrong information before I can fix it? My EFC was way off on my last submission and I'm worried they'll make aid decisions with the wrong numbers.

The correction window varies depending on your specific situation, but here's what you need to know: 1. Initial processing must complete first (typically 3-4 weeks) 2. You'll need to wait for your SAI calculation to be released 3. The correction feature will automatically activate on your dashboard 4. You can then submit corrections to income, household size, assets, etc. 5. Schools won't finalize aid packages until after the correction period One important note: corrections typically take an additional 1-2 weeks to process after submission. If your initial FAFSA contains significant errors, I recommend contacting your school's financial aid office directly to alert them about the upcoming corrections.

•Thank you SO much for the detailed explanation! So even if my schools get the wrong info first, they won't finalize anything yet? That's a huge relief. I'll definitely reach out to my financial aid office too.

•I disagree with point #5. My daughter's school already sent her an aid package based on the initial FAFSA data. They don't always wait for corrections! Better call the school ASAP if you have major changes.

My son just went through this last week! The correction option suddenly appeared after about 22 days. But then after he made the corrections it went back into processing again for another week! So frustrating...

The entire FAFSA system is a DISASTER this year!! I've been trying to make corrections for over a month and keep getting error messages. Their website times out constantly, the help section is useless, and you CANNOT get through on the phone! Seriously, has ANYONE been able to actually reach a human at Federal Student Aid lately?? I've called the 1-800 number like 20 times and either get disconnected or wait forever. My daughter's college is demanding the corrected FAFSA by next Friday or she loses her scholarship. This is RIDICULOUS!

•I was having the same nightmare trying to reach FSA about verification issues. Someone in another thread recommended using Claimyr (claimyr.com) to get through to FAFSA agents. It worked amazingly well for me - got through in about 15 minutes after trying for days on my own. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/TbC8dZQWYNQ The agent I spoke with said correction windows open automatically after full processing, but they can manually unlock it if you explain your situation. Might be worth trying if you're in a time crunch with that scholarship deadline.

•Actually, it's because the corrections system needs to compare your new information against your original submission. Since the processing includes verification with IRS tax data, they need that baseline established first. It's frustrating but logical from a systems perspective.

Update: My application FINALLY finished processing today (took 26 days total) and I was able to make corrections! The correction tab automatically appeared on my dashboard and I fixed my income information. Now it says the corrections are processing and will take about 1-2 weeks. Thanks everyone for your help!

•Great! Make sure you also notify your school's financial aid office about the corrections so they can put a hold on finalizing your aid package until the new information comes through.

•Congrats! The waiting game is the worst part of FAFSA 😓

I went thru this back in january when i was doing fasfa for my kids. the first kid was easy but for the second one i had to wait forever to fix some stuff about our house value. just a tip but save PDF copies of everything before AND after corrections so you have proof if something gets messed up later. happened to my neighbor and she had no proof of what she submitted originally

•That's really smart advice about saving PDFs. I'm doing that right now with my corrections page. Thanks!
