FAFSA 2025-2026 corrections deadline - anyone know when we can submit them?

So I just got an email from my financial aid office saying my FAFSA has 'discrepancies' that need correction, but when I log into studentaid.gov, there's no option to make corrections yet? The email says these corrections are supposed to be due by April 15th, but how can I submit them if the system won't let me? Has anyone else run into this or know when the correction feature will be active? My SAI calculation is way off because of some income reporting issue, and I'm worried about losing my Pell Grant eligibility if I don't fix it soon.

So frustrating! Did your email also mention the April deadline? I'm wondering if that's a standard date or if it varies by school.

The 2025-2026 FAFSA correction functionality is rolling out in phases. According to the Department of Education's latest update, correction capabilities should be available to all applicants by March 10th. The April 15th deadline your school mentioned is likely their institutional deadline for priority aid consideration, not the federal deadline for corrections. If you need to make urgent corrections before the online system allows it, you should contact your school's financial aid office directly - they can sometimes make certain adjustments on their end.

Thank you so much for the clarification! I'll definitely reach out to my financial aid office tomorrow to see if they can help in the meantime.

lol they always do this!! every year its the same story with fafsa... tell u to do something but the website doesnt work. classic govt efficiency

While frustrating, this year is particularly challenging because of the FAFSA Simplification Act implementation. The new system has experienced significant delays across all functionalities. The correction feature is actually ahead of their revised schedule.

I swear I've called the Federal Student Aid helpline like 15 times about this exact issue!!! Every time I get disconnected after waiting for an hour! They say on the automated message that the correction feature is "coming soon" but WHEN IS SOON?? My SAI is totally wrong too because they somehow counted my stepdad's income twice, and now I'm showing as ineligible for any grants. I'm about to lose my mind!!

Try using Claimyr to reach FSA faster. I was stuck in the same situation with incorrect parent contribution info and couldn't get through. Used claimyr.com and got connected to an agent in about 15 minutes who could actually tell me exactly when corrections would be available for my application. They have a video demo at https://youtu.be/TbC8dZQWYNQ that shows how it works. The agent I spoke with was able to flag my account for priority correction access.

My daughter is having the same issue with her FAFSA. Her father and I are divorced, and somehow his income was included even though I have full custody. Her estimated family contribution (is it called SAI now?) is showing $32,000 when it should be closer to $8,000. I tried calling our university's financial aid office, and they said they can't do anything until she submits the correction through the portal. It's a terrible catch-22 situation.

Yes, it's now called the Student Aid Index (SAI) instead of EFC. For divorced parents, only the custodial parent's information should be included. You can request a special circumstances review from the financial aid office with documentation of the custody arrangement. They have the authority to make professional judgment adjustments even before the correction portal opens.

heard from friend that some schools got early access to corrections already??? not fair!!

This is partially true. The Department of Education granted early correction access to a pilot group of 25 schools to test the system. Full rollout is scheduled to complete by March 10th as mentioned earlier. The staggered approach helps prevent system overload.

UPDATE: The Department of Education just announced this morning that the correction functionality is now available for all FAFSA applications submitted before February 15th. If you submitted after that date, your correction access will be available within 7-10 days after your initial submission processing date. When logging in, make sure you're using the updated studentaid.gov portal and not an old bookmarked page. The correction button appears on your FAFSA status page under "Application Options.

ITS WORKING NOW!!!! Finally fixing my stepdad income issue. For anyone else dealing with this, make sure you click the "Correction" button and not "Update" - they do different things apparently.
