FAFSA glitch: Received SAI score but shows unsigned - can't make corrections
I'm totally confused about my FAFSA status. I received an email saying my Student Aid Index (SAI) calculation is complete, but when I log into studentaid.gov, it shows that I haven't signed the parent portion! Even weirder, when I try to go in to make a correction and sign, the system won't let me. It just gives me an error message saying "correction not available at this time." Has anyone dealt with this before? I'm worried my kid's financial aid packages will be delayed if this doesn't get fixed soon. The college application deadlines are coming up fast and this is stressing me out!

Omg I had the EXACT same issue two weeks ago!!! The whole system is broken this year with the new FAFSA rollout. Try logging out completely, clearing your browser cache, and then logging back in. Sometimes the system just needs a reset. When I called the helpline they told me if you can see your SAI score then that means it IS actually signed and processed, even if the status looks wrong. The colleges should be able to see it too.

•Thanks, I'll try clearing my cache. Did you have to wait on hold forever to talk to someone? I tried calling yesterday and gave up after 45 minutes.

This is actually a known system error that's happening to a lot of people. If you received your SAI, your application is complete and has been processed. The status indicator showing it as unsigned is just a display glitch. You can verify this by checking your Student Aid Report (SAR) - if that's available and shows your SAI number, you're good to go. Colleges will be able to access your information without issues. The reason you can't make corrections is because the application is actually fully processed despite what the interface is showing you.

I've been dealing with FAFSA issues for 3 weeks now and FINALLY got through to someone yesterday. Apparently the system is having all kinds of weird glitches since they updated everything for the 2025-2026 application cycle. The agent told me that if you received your SAI score, then yes, your application IS complete, even if the display shows otherwise. They're aware of the visual glitch but haven't fixed it yet. She also mentioned that some colleges are having trouble accessing the information even when it's properly submitted, so it might be worth contacting your financial aid offices directly to see if they can view your info.

•That's good to know, thanks. How did you manage to get through to an actual person? I keep getting the automated system that just tells me to check the website (which is exactly what's not working!).

When I had this exact problem last month, I tried everything without success until I used Claimyr to get through to a FAFSA agent. I was skeptical at first, but it actually worked - they connected me to an agent in about 10 minutes when I'd been trying for days on my own. The agent confirmed what others here said - if you got your SAI score, your application is complete despite the status glitch. You can check out how it works at claimyr.com or see this video demo: https://youtu.be/TbC8dZQWYNQ - totally worth it to avoid the endless hold times, especially with these deadline pressures.

•Thanks for the tip! I'll check it out if I can't get this resolved in the next day or two. At this point I just need to talk to someone who can confirm everything is actually processed correctly.

Technical explanation time: This is happening because of how the new FAFSA simplified system processes applications. The back-end processing and front-end display are somewhat disconnected. If you received an SAI calculation, your application has been fully processed through the system. The error showing it as unsigned is a UI bug they're working to fix. Here's how to verify everything is truly complete: 1. Download your Student Aid Report (SAR) 2. Check if your SAI number appears on the SAR 3. If yes, then your application is complete 4. Contact your schools to confirm they can access your information The correction lockout happens automatically once the application has been fully processed, so that's actually confirming everything worked properly despite the visual glitch.

•FOR REAL!! And this year is even worse with all the changes they made. The simplified FAFSA is anything but simplified!

Update: I followed the advice here and downloaded my SAR. It does show the SAI score, so I think we're good! I also called my daughter's top choice school and they confirmed they can see her FAFSA data in their system. So it looks like this is just a display error on the website. Thanks everyone for your help!

•Great news! This is exactly what I'd expect based on the symptoms you described. The SAI calculation is the last step in processing, so if that's completed, you're all set. The colleges having access is the ultimate confirmation. Glad it worked out!

•Mine eventually updated after about 6 weeks, but by then my son had already received his financial aid packages from two schools, so the website was just catching up to what had already been processed in their system.
