FAFSA correction button greyed out - can't click to edit submission summary
I'm trying to fix some info on my 2025-2026 FAFSA that I submitted last week, but I'm stuck in a weird loop. When I log into studentaid.gov and navigate to the correction section, I can see the "Make Correction" button, but it's completely greyed out and nothing happens when I click it. I've tried different browsers (Chrome and Edge) and even my phone, but still no luck! Has anyone else run into this issue? I need to update my housing info asap because I just found out I'm not living in the dorms next year. The deadline for my school's housing grant is in 2 weeks, so I'm getting pretty anxious about this!

The same thing happened to me! The greyed out button is super annoying. Try clicking on the actual FAFSA form number first (should be on the left side of your dashboard), then look for "View or Print" option. From there, I found another way to access the correction page that actually worked. The whole system is so glitchy this year.

•Thanks for responding! I tried looking for the form number but don't see it anywhere on my dashboard. Is it labeled as something specific? All I see is my submission status that says "Processed" but no actual form number or link...

sometime u gotta wait 3 days after submissin before corrections are allowed. the system needs to process ur app first before letting u make changes. happened to my brother too

•That could be it! It's been exactly a week since I submitted, but maybe there's some kind of processing delay? My status does say "Processed" though, which is confusing if I still can't make corrections.

This is actually a known issue with the new FAFSA system. The correction button remains greyed out if: 1. Your school has already downloaded your FAFSA information 2. You have a pending Professional Judgment review 3. Your SAI calculation is still in progress The solution depends on which scenario applies to you. If it's #1, you need to contact your school's financial aid office directly to make corrections. If it's #2 or #3, you need to wait until those processes complete. Also, for housing changes specifically, many schools require you to notify them directly rather than changing it on FAFSA, as housing status changes don't always affect your SAI calculation but do affect your cost of attendance at the school level.

•Wow, this is super helpful! I just checked my SAI and it does show a number, so I'm guessing #1 is my issue. I'll contact my school's financial aid office tomorrow. Do you know if they typically process these kinds of corrections quickly? I'm worried about missing that housing grant deadline.

•Did you ever get it resolved? If so, what worked for you? The new FAFSA is definitely causing a lot of headaches for everyone. I work in college counseling and about 70% of my students have had some kind of technical issue with their applications this cycle.

Have you tried clearing your cache and cookies? I had a similar issue where many buttons on StudentAid.gov weren't working properly. After clearing my browser data and restarting, it suddenly started working. Sometimes the site gets stuck with old session data that prevents the interactive elements from working properly.

•Just tried clearing cache and cookies, and even tried in incognito mode - still no luck with the button. Thanks for the suggestion though!

I just went through this last month! If your FAFSA shows as "Processed" but the correction button is still greyed out, you probably need to call FSA directly to have them reset something on their end. I spent forever trying to fix it myself before I finally called. I used Claimyr to reach someone at Federal Student Aid without the ridiculous hold times (got connected in about 10 mins instead of the 2+ hours I waited before). Their site is claimyr.com and they have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/TbC8dZQWYNQ Once I got through to an agent, they confirmed it was a system issue on their end and fixed it while I was on the call. I was able to make my corrections immediately after hanging up.

•Thank you! I'll check out that service if I can't get this resolved through my school. Did the FSA agent mention what specifically caused the issue? I'm wondering if it's something they see often.

The agent told me it's a common issue with the new system where the form status and the correction permission get out of sync. Apparently the new FAFSA platform has several known bugs they're still working through. She also mentioned that housing changes specifically might need to be handled differently - for some schools you need to contact them directly rather than changing it in FAFSA.

•That makes sense - thanks for the additional info! I'll try contacting my school's financial aid office first, and if they say I need to change it directly in the FAFSA, I'll use that service to get through to FSA. Really appreciate everyone's help!

Did you ever get this fixed? I'm having the EXACT same issue now and it's stressing me out!

•Yes! I ended up calling my school's financial aid office first. They said for housing changes specifically, I needed to fill out their internal form rather than changing it on FAFSA. Apparently lots of schools handle housing changes separately from the FAFSA correction process. If you're trying to change something else though, you might need to call FSA directly.

Just to add some official information here: The Federal Student Aid office has acknowledged several technical issues with the FAFSA correction functionality. If your SAI has already been calculated and your form shows as processed, but the correction button is still inactive, you should: 1. First contact your school's financial aid office - many can make certain corrections on their end 2. If they direct you back to FAFSA, then contact Federal Student Aid directly 3. For housing changes specifically, most schools have their own internal processes Also worth noting that once schools have downloaded your FAFSA data, some corrections must be made through them rather than directly on StudentAid.gov. This is part of the new system architecture and not necessarily a glitch.

•Thank you for this clear explanation! My school's financial aid office was able to handle the housing change through their internal system, so it's all resolved now. I wish the FAFSA website explained this better instead of just showing a greyed-out button with no explanation!

Great to see this got resolved! For anyone else running into this issue, I'd recommend starting with your school's financial aid office like Liam did. I've noticed that many FAFSA correction issues this year are actually due to schools having already downloaded the data, which triggers different correction procedures. The new system definitely needs better error messaging - a simple "Contact your school's financial aid office" would be so much more helpful than just a greyed-out button!

•Totally agree about the error messaging! I'm new to this community and just went through the FAFSA process myself. It's really frustrating when the system doesn't give you clear guidance on what to do next. Reading through this thread was super helpful - I had no idea that schools downloading the data would affect the correction process. Thanks to everyone who shared their experiences and solutions!

I'm so glad I found this thread! I'm a college freshman and just ran into this exact same issue with the greyed out correction button. Reading through everyone's experiences has been incredibly helpful - I had no idea that schools downloading your FAFSA data could affect your ability to make corrections directly on the website. I was starting to panic thinking there was something wrong with my application. I'm going to contact my school's financial aid office first thing Monday morning. It's really reassuring to know this is a common issue and not something I did wrong. Thanks to everyone who shared their solutions!

•Welcome to the community, Natasha! Don't worry, you definitely didn't do anything wrong - the new FAFSA system has been really confusing for everyone this year. It's great that you found this thread before spending hours trying to troubleshoot it yourself like some of us did! Your school's financial aid office should be able to help you out quickly. Good luck with everything!

As someone who just joined this community and is navigating FAFSA for the first time, this thread has been incredibly eye-opening! I had no idea there were so many technical issues with the new system this year. The fact that schools downloading your data can lock you out of making corrections directly is something I never would have known without reading everyone's experiences here. It's really helpful to see the step-by-step solutions people found - starting with the school's financial aid office seems to be the key. Thanks to everyone who shared their struggles and successes. It's reassuring to know there's such a supportive community here to help newcomers like me navigate these confusing processes!

•Welcome to the community, Dylan! I'm also pretty new here and just went through my first FAFSA experience. This thread has been a lifesaver - I was completely lost when I hit similar issues. It's amazing how helpful everyone is here with sharing their real experiences and solutions. The whole "schools downloading data affects corrections" thing really caught me off guard too. Definitely bookmarking this thread for future reference! Hope your FAFSA process goes smoothly from here.
