FAFSA keeps rejecting my high school diploma correction - anyone else stuck?
I'm about to throw my laptop out the window!! Been trying for THREE DAYS to correct my FAFSA application because somehow it got submitted with 'no high school diploma' checked, which is totally wrong! Every time I log in to studentaid.gov and try to make the correction, I get a weird error message saying 'unable to process your request at this time.' I've tried using different browsers, clearing cache, even my roommate's computer. Nothing works! My college financial aid office is freaking out because this could impact my eligibility. Has anyone else had trouble making corrections to the education section specifically? Any tricks that actually worked?

There's actually a known glitch in the FAFSA system right now affecting education status corrections specifically. The Department of Education posted about it last week but didn't really publicize it well. You need to call the Federal Student Aid Information Center directly at 1-800-433-3243 and have them manually override this in your application. They'll ask for your FSA ID and some verification questions. When I called, they said this is happening to about 8% of applicants trying to make corrections.

•Thank you!! Just tried calling that number and got the 'all representatives are busy' message after waiting 40 minutes. Ugh! Is there a better time to call?

•Early morning (right when they open) or late evening tends to work better. They're absolutely swamped right now because of these system issues. If you explain that this is affecting your upcoming financial aid deadline, they sometimes can expedite the correction once you get through.

I work at a university financial aid office and we've had DOZENS of students with this exact issue this month. The FAFSA system update is causing all kinds of problems with the education section specifically. Here's what we're advising students to do: 1. FIRST, have your school's financial aid office add a note to your file about this being a system error 2. Try calling FSA directly early in the morning (before 8:30am Eastern) 3. Submit a written correction request through your school's aid office 4. Ask your school if they can verify your high school completion status separately Whatever you do, DON'T submit multiple correction attempts online as it can sometimes lock your entire application for review.

•This is super helpful! I'll contact my financial aid office tomorrow. Do you know if this will delay my aid? I'm really worried about missing deadlines.

•Most schools are aware of this issue and won't penalize students as long as you're actively working on the correction. Document everything - take screenshots of error messages, keep notes of who you spoke with and when. Your school can place a temporary override in their system while waiting for the correction to process, but you need to request this specifically.

Off topic but why is the FAFSA system ALWAYS broken?? My brother had the EXACT same problem in 2022 and they swore they fixed it. The entire financial aid system in this country is a joke. They make it SO HARD to get help for college then wonder why ppl aren't going!!

•Agree 100%! I had to fix THREE different errors on my FAFSA this year. International students at my university get way better service than we do as American citizens. It's ridiculous!

After dealing with several FAFSA correction problems this year, I discovered Claimyr (claimyr.com) and it literally saved me hours of frustration. It holds your place in line with FSA and calls you back when an actual human is available. Just used it last week to fix a similar education status problem. You can see how it works in this video: https://youtu.be/TbC8dZQWYNQ Much better than waiting on hold for hours or having to call back repeatedly. The agent I spoke with fixed my high school diploma status in about 5 minutes once I got through.

•Oh wow, I've never heard of this! Does it actually work? I'm desperate enough to try anything at this point.

•It worked perfectly for me. The FSA agent told me they're getting thousands of calls about correction issues right now, especially for the education section. Having them fix it manually was the only solution that worked.

Let me clear up some confusion here about the high school diploma correction issue: 1. This is related to the FAFSA Simplification Act changes for 2024-2025 applications 2. The education section was completely redesigned, causing integration issues 3. The online correction form has a specific bug with toggle fields (like yes/no questions) Here's what actually works: - Call FSA directly at 1-800-433-3243 - Tell them specifically you need a "manual override correction" for the education section - Request a confirmation email once corrected - Allow 3-5 days for the correction to appear in the system Your SAI (Student Aid Index) calculation is directly affected by education status, so this is definitely worth fixing properly. If you have a deadline approaching, ask the agent to note this in your file and request expedited processing.

•Thank you so much for this detailed explanation! I managed to get through to FSA this morning using that Claimyr service someone mentioned above. The agent confirmed exactly what you said - it's a known issue with the education section fields. They made the manual correction and said it should update within 48 hours. I'm so relieved!

•Excellent! Just make sure to follow up and verify the correction actually processed. Check your SAI recalculation too, as that will confirm the change took effect in the system. Glad you got it resolved!
