FAFSA still stuck on 'pending' after 3 months - anyone actually get approved for 2025-2026?

Seriously starting to get worried here. I submitted my FAFSA back in November for the 2025-2026 year, and my status STILL says 'pending' when I log into studentaid.gov. It's been over 3 months now! Has ANYONE actually gotten their SAI calculation or been approved yet? My college is asking for verification documents but I don't even have an SAI to give them. I've tried calling FSA like 15 times but either get disconnected or sit on hold forever. My parents are getting anxious because they need to know what Parent Plus loans they'll need to take out, and I'm worried I'll miss scholarship deadlines if this drags on much longer. Is the new system just completely broken or what?

I submitted mine in early October and finally got my SAI calculation last week, so about 4 months total. This new simplified FAFSA system is anything but simplified. They're dealing with a massive backlog because of all the technical issues they had during the rollout. Try checking if your application is actually complete - mine was sitting in pending because they needed additional tax verification that I didn't know about until I finally got through to an agent.

Wait, how did you know they needed additional tax verification? Did they email you or was it somewhere in the portal that I'm missing?

mine still says pending 2 lol applied in december... starting 2 think nobodys gettin approved this year

The Department of Education announced that they're processing applications in batches. The first batch (October submissions) just started going out in late January. December submissions likely won't be processed until March or April based on their current timeline. Make sure your application doesn't have any flags requiring correction, as those get pushed to later processing groups.

My daughter's has been pending since November too! So frustrating!! Our older son never had these problems with his FAFSA three years ago. This is ridiculous!!

The 2025-2026 FAFSA is an entirely new system with a different calculation method (SAI instead of EFC) and completely rebuilt processing systems. It's causing significant delays for everyone. The older FAFSA system your son used was much more established. Most colleges are adjusting their financial aid deadlines because of these nationwide issues.

After weeks of calling and getting nowhere, I finally got through to a Federal Student Aid agent using Claimyr (claimyr.com). The wait was about 15 minutes instead of the hours I was spending before. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/TbC8dZQWYNQ Turns out my application was flagged for income verification but the notification email went to my spam folder. The agent was able to tell me exactly what was missing and how to upload the documents. My status changed from 'pending' to 'processing' within 48 hours after I uploaded what they needed.

does that service actually work? i feel like anything that promises to get through to fsa faster is probably just trying to scam desperate students lol

It's legit - they just connect you through their business line which has priority routing. I was skeptical too but was desperate after spending hours on hold. The agent I spoke with was definitely from the official FSA office and had full access to my application details.

To clarify what's happening with the 2025-2026 FAFSA processing: 1. The Department of Education is processing applications in batches based on submission date 2. Applications requiring verification or with data inconsistencies are being moved to later batches 3. Many applicants have "silent holds" due to the system not properly notifying about verification requirements 4. The new SAI (Student Aid Index) calculation is taking longer than the old EFC system 5. Most colleges have extended their priority financial aid deadlines due to these systemic issues If you're concerned about missing deadlines, I recommend: - Contact your school's financial aid office directly to explain the FAFSA delay - Check your spam/junk folders for any FSA communications - Log into studentaid.gov and check the "To Do" section for any requirements - Make sure your email address is current in both your FSA ID profile and your FAFSA application This is a nationwide issue affecting millions of students, so most institutions are being flexible with deadlines this year.

Thanks for the detailed explanation! I checked my "To Do" section and there's nothing there, and my email is definitely correct. I'll contact my school's financial aid office tomorrow. I really hope they extend the scholarship deadline because some of them required the SAI number on the application.

They're prioritizing low-income applications first! It's not just about when you submitted. My EFC last year was 0 and my FAFSA was completed within 6 weeks even though I submitted in December. My boyfriend's family makes more $$$ and he submitted in October and still waiting. It's not just the date you submitted - they're processing based on need too.

That's not accurate. The Department of Education's official statement is that applications are being processed in batches based on submission date. There's no official policy of prioritizing based on income level. The difference in processing times is more likely due to verification requirements or application complexity rather than income level.

Well that's what the financial aid advisor at our community college told us so idk maybe they have different info than you 🤷‍♀️

I work in a university financial aid office, and I can confirm we're seeing massive delays across all student demographics. Here's what's really happening with the new FAFSA system: - The "Better FAFSA" rollout had significant technical issues in October/November - Many applications have data transfer problems with IRS information - The new contributor system (replacing the old parent information) requires additional verification - Many schools haven't received ANY completed FAFSA data yet, not just for certain students - The Department is still resolving bugs in how SAI is calculated My advice to everyone waiting: document EVERYTHING. Save screenshots of your submission confirmation, keep a log of all your call attempts, and email your school's financial aid office to create a paper trail showing you've been proactive. Almost every college is extending deadlines, but having documentation will help if you need to appeal any missed opportunities.

This is OUTRAGEOUS! My daughter may lose her spot at her dream school because of this government incompetence! Who can we complain to that will actually DO something??

Contact your school's financial aid office directly. Nearly every institution is implementing contingency plans specifically for this situation. No reputable college is going to deny admission solely because of FAFSA processing delays that are affecting millions of students nationwide. They may require an interim form or have you submit directly to them while waiting for your official SAI calculation.

mine was pending for like 2 months then suddenly switched to "action required" but never sent me any email notification! had to upload some extra tax forms for my parents and now back to pending again... check if yours needs additional info maybe?

Just checked again and it still just says "pending" with no action required. I'm wondering if I should just start over with a new application at this point?

Do NOT submit a new application! That will flag your account for potential fraud (multiple applications) and delay processing even further. If you can reach an FSA agent, they can tell you exactly what status your application is in and if there are any hidden requirements not showing in your portal.

I'm in the exact same boat - submitted in early November and still stuck on pending! This is so stressful. Reading through these comments is actually really helpful though. I had no idea about checking spam folders for verification emails or that there might be "silent holds" not showing up in the portal. Going to try that Claimyr service that @Alejandro Castro mentioned since regular FSA phone lines have been useless. Also going to email my school's financial aid office tomorrow to let them know about the delay. Thank you everyone for sharing your experiences - at least I know I'm not alone in this mess!

You're definitely not alone! I'm a new member here but have been dealing with the same nightmare. My November submission is also still pending and it's beyond frustrating. I've been calling FSA daily with no luck. Thanks for mentioning the Claimyr service - I'm going to try that too since traditional phone calls aren't working. It's somewhat comforting to know this is happening to so many people, but also terrifying that the system is this broken. Really hoping we all get some movement on our applications soon! Keep us updated if you make any progress.

I'm in the same situation - submitted my FAFSA in late November and it's been stuck on "pending" ever since! This thread has been incredibly helpful though. I had no idea about checking spam folders or that there could be verification requirements not showing up in the portal. I'm definitely going to try the Claimyr service that @Alejandro Castro mentioned since I've had zero luck with regular FSA phone lines. Also planning to reach out to my college's financial aid office tomorrow to document the delay. It's both reassuring and terrifying to see how widespread this problem is. Has anyone heard any recent updates about when the next batch of applications might be processed? I'm getting really anxious about missing scholarship deadlines even though I know it's not our fault.

Same here! I submitted mine in mid-November and still nothing. This whole situation is such a mess. I've been lurking on this community for weeks trying to find answers and finally decided to join because I'm getting desperate. The Claimyr service sounds promising - has anyone else tried it besides @Alejandro Castro? I'm also worried about scholarship deadlines but from what I'm reading here it sounds like most schools are being understanding about the delays. Going to contact my financial aid office first thing Monday morning. Thanks for sharing your timeline - it helps to know we're all in this together even though the situation sucks!

I'm a new member here but dealing with the exact same issue! Submitted my FAFSA in early December and it's been on "pending" status for almost 3 months now. It's both comforting and frustrating to see how widespread this problem is. I'm also going to contact my school's financial aid office tomorrow to document the delay like @Maggie Martinez suggested. Has anyone gotten any recent updates from their colleges about extended deadlines? I'm worried about missing out on need-based aid opportunities even though this clearly isn't our fault. Thanks everyone for sharing your experiences - at least we're not suffering through this mess alone!

Welcome to the community! I'm new here too and just joined because of this exact FAFSA nightmare. Submitted mine in late November and also stuck on pending - it's so frustrating! I've been reading through all these comments and it's honestly both reassuring and scary to see how many of us are dealing with this. I'm definitely going to try that Claimyr service too since regular FSA calls have been completely useless. Also planning to email my financial aid office tomorrow morning. From what I'm seeing in this thread, most schools are being flexible with deadlines because they know this is affecting everyone. Hang in there - hopefully we'll all see some movement soon!

Just joined this community because I'm dealing with the exact same FAFSA nightmare! Submitted mine in mid-November and it's been stuck on "pending" for over 3 months now. I'm definitely going to try that Claimyr service @Alejandro Castro mentioned since I've wasted countless hours on hold with FSA. Also going to check my spam folder and contact my school's financial aid office tomorrow to document everything like @Maggie Martinez suggested. Welcome to the community! I'm also a newcomer here and joined specifically because of this FAFSA disaster. Submitted mine in early December and still stuck on pending - it's incredibly frustrating! This thread has been a lifesaver though. I had no idea about checking spam folders or that verification requests might not show up properly in the portal. Definitely planning to try the Claimyr service and contact my financial aid office tomorrow. From what I'm reading here, it seems like most colleges are extending deadlines because they know this is affecting millions of students. The Department of Education's latest update said they're still working through the November batch, so December submissions like ours probably won't be processed until April at the earliest. Hang in there - we're all dealing with this mess together!

This whole thread has been incredibly eye-opening - I had no idea this was affecting so many people or that there could be verification issues not showing up in the portal. I've been calling FSA practically every day with zero success, so I'm definitely going to try that Claimyr service @Alejandro Castro mentioned. Welcome to the community! I'm also new here and dealing with the exact same situation - submitted my FAFSA in late November and still stuck on pending after 3+ months. This thread has been such a relief to find because I was starting to think something was specifically wrong with MY application. I've also been calling FSA daily with absolutely no progress, so I'm definitely going to try that Claimyr service too. Really appreciate everyone sharing the tip about checking spam folders and documenting everything with our schools. From what I'm gathering here, it sounds like the Department of Education is still working through November submissions, so December ones like yours might not get processed until late March or April. I know it's frustrating but at least we know our schools are aware this is a nationwide issue and most are extending deadlines. Hang in there - hopefully we'll all see some movement soon!
