FAFSA processed but no SAI calculated - stuck in limbo without corrections needed

I'm totally confused and starting to panic about my son's FAFSA application for 2025-2026. We submitted everything almost 3 weeks ago, and the application status shows as "processed" but there's no SAI calculation! When we log in to studentaid.gov, we don't see any requests for corrections or additional info. The application just seems... stuck? Has anyone dealt with this before? The weird thing is we can't even figure out what might be wrong because there are no error messages or flags. My son's college deadline for financial aid is coming up next month and I'm worried this will impact his ability to get grants. I've tried calling the Federal Student Aid hotline twice but gave up after being on hold for 45+ minutes both times. Any advice would be so appreciated!

same exact thing happened to my daughter!! her app has been "processed" for like a month with no SAI. we finally got thru to someone at FSA yesterday who said its a system glitch affecting some apps. they said they have to manually review it now...ugh

Oh no, a month?! Did they give you any timeframe for how long the manual review would take? My son's school needs his info by March 15th for priority aid consideration.

This is actually a fairly common issue with the new FAFSA system. There are several reasons this can happen: 1. Income verification flags that aren't showing up on your end 2. A mismatch between your tax info and what the IRS Data Retrieval Tool pulled in 3. Conflicting information between parent and student contributions 4. A technical glitch in their calculation engine The fastest way to resolve this is to contact the Federal Student Aid office directly and have them look at the specific reason for your application. While you wait, I'd recommend contacting your son's financial aid office to let them know about the delay - most schools have procedures in place for FAFSA delays and can place a temporary hold on your file.

Thank you for this detailed explanation! I didn't realize there could be income verification flags that we can't see. I'll definitely contact his school's financial aid office tomorrow. Do you know if these issues usually get resolved before aid deadlines?

i think its the system glitch thing. my neices app did this too and then suddenly 3 weeks later the SAI showed up with no explanation. just keep checking your account daily. the new fafsa is such a mess this year!!!!

This is happening to many families this aid cycle. The most direct solution is to contact FSA directly for case-specific assistance. What worked for me was using Claimyr (claimyr.com) to get through to an actual agent without the endless hold times. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/TbC8dZQWYNQ Once I got through to an agent, they explained that my daughter's application had an internal flag for verification but the notification hadn't been sent to our portal. They manually adjusted something and our SAI appeared within 48 hours. Also, be sure to contact your son's school financial aid office - they can often place a hold on your file if they know you're actively working to resolve FAFSA issues.

thx for this advice! I was on hold for over an hour yesterday before finally getting thru

This is really helpful - I'm going to check out that service right now. I simply don't have hours to spend on hold with two other kids at home. Did they charge a lot for the service?

The service was completely worth it for the time saved. They connected me to an agent in about 10 minutes instead of the 2+ hour hold I experienced on my own. I don't remember the exact cost, but it was reasonable considering I got immediate answers about our application.

The ENTIRE FAFSA system is BROKEN this year!!! My daughter's application has been "processed" for SIX WEEKS with no SAI and her school is threatening to not package her aid!!! This is RIDICULOUS!! The Department of Education should be ASHAMED of this disaster!!! They completely overhauled the system and clearly didn't test it properly before launching it!!! And don't even get me started on the Parent Plus loans - I applied for one last year and the process was a NIGHTMARE that took MONTHS to resolve!! I've talked to THREE different agents who all gave different answers about our application status. One said it was a "known system issue" and another said we needed to provide additional documentation that was NEVER requested on our account!!

While I understand your frustration, it might be helpful to note that most schools have contingency plans for FAFSA delays this year. Has your daughter's financial aid office offered any temporary solutions? Many are accepting estimated SAI calculations or providing provisional aid packages while these issues are being resolved.

This happened to me too! I was freaking out because I needed my financial aid package to decide between schools. When I finally got through to someone (after like 5 tries calling), they told me that sometimes applications get stuck in a review queue without showing any errors. The person fixed something on their end and my SAI showed up two days later. Definitely try to talk to a live person because the website isn't showing all the information about what's happening with your application.

I just went through this last week with my twins' applications. One processed normally with an SAI, the other got stuck exactly like you described. Here's what worked for us: 1. I contacted the financial aid office at their school first, who confirmed this is happening to many students 2. They suggested I submit a case through the FSA feedback center (not just calling) which creates a documented case 3. I also called FSA directly and explained the situation 4. The agent was able to see that there was an internal verification flag that wasn't visible to us 5. They cleared the flag manually and our SAI appeared 3 days later The key seems to be getting to an actual person at FSA who can see the backend of your application. The schools themselves can't fix the calculation issue, but they can extend deadlines if they know you're actively working on it.

Thank you for laying out these specific steps! I'm going to try the FSA feedback center approach today. How long did it take for them to respond to your feedback case?

They responded to my feedback case in about 4 business days, but calling directly was ultimately faster. The feedback case was still useful though because it created a paper trail of the issue.

Update: I finally got through to FSA! I used that Claimyr service someone mentioned above and got connected to an agent in about 15 minutes. The agent confirmed there was a verification flag on our application that wasn't showing up in our portal. Apparently our income information had a small discrepancy with the IRS data. The agent was able to clear the flag since the difference was minimal, and said our SAI should calculate within 3-5 business days. I also reached out to my son's school financial aid office who said they'll put a note on his file about the FAFSA delay. Thank you all for your help!

That's great news! Glad you got it sorted out!

Perfect! This is exactly what happened with us too. The verification flags not showing in the portal seems to be a widespread issue this year.

I'm glad you got this resolved! For anyone else experiencing this issue, here's a quick summary of the solution path: 1. Contact your school's financial aid office to notify them of the delay 2. Use a service like Claimyr to reach FSA quickly or be prepared for long hold times 3. Ask the FSA agent specifically about "hidden verification flags" or "calculation errors" 4. Request that they manually review your application 5. Get a case number or reference number for the conversation 6. Follow up with your school again after the SAI is calculated The new FAFSA system is improving but still has these technical issues that require human intervention to solve. Always document your conversations and follow-ups.
