FAFSA signature issue - son got email to sign again despite already signing
I'm so confused with this FAFSA signature business! My son submitted his 2025-2026 FAFSA application last week and definitely electronically signed it (I watched him do it). Now he just got an email saying the application is incomplete because his signature is missing. When we log in to studentaid.gov, it shows his application as

this happened to me twice this yr!! the system is so glitchy now with the new FAFSA. my daughter had to go back in and RE-SIGN like 3 times before it finally went thru. just have him login again and look for the signature page. sometimes it doesnt save it the first time

Thanks for responding! That makes me feel better knowing we're not the only ones. Did your daughter have to redo the whole application or just the signature part?

This is a common issue with the new FAFSA system. Your son needs to log in to his studentaid.gov account (using HIS FSA ID, not yours), go to the FAFSA form section, and look for the option to \

wait I thought if ur kid is a dependent u BOTH had to sign it??? My financial aid office told me both student and parent signatures r required or it wont process

@username8 Yes, that's correct - for dependent students, both the student and at least one parent who provided information on the FAFSA must sign. However, the issue described here appears to be specifically with the student's signature not being registered in the system, despite them having signed already. The parent signature might be fine, but both are needed for processing.

Yes, I already signed my part as the parent. That part shows as complete. It's just my son's signature that the system says is missing. So frustrating!

i hate the new fafsa so much its been nothing but problems since they redesigned it. took me 6 tries to get both signatures processed right. the whole better SAI thing was supposed to make it easier but instead its a nightmare ugh

I know! We were so careful filling everything out too. I thought the redesign was supposed to simplify things? Is the SAI calculation at least more transparent now?

I work at a college financial aid office, and we're seeing this signature issue daily. Here's what's happening: there's a bug in the system where sometimes the signature page appears to submit but doesn't actually register in the database. The fix is simple:\n\n1. Have your son log in with HIS FSA ID\n2. Go to the FAFSA application \n3. Click on \

Thank you so much for these detailed steps! We'll try this tonight. Should we also be printing/saving the confirmation page as proof in case it happens again?

Yes, taking a screenshot of the confirmation page is a great idea. Also, once the signature is successfully processed, you should both receive confirmation emails within 3-5 business days stating that your FAFSA has been processed and your SAI (Student Aid Index) has been calculated. If you don't get those emails, I'd follow up.

Hey, I've been dealing with this exact same issue for DAYS! I've tried calling FSA multiple times and can't get through - always a busy signal or it hangs up after the automated message. Anyone know a better way to reach them directly about signature problems? The website chat is useless.

I had this exact problem and wasted hours trying to get through to FSA on the phone. Finally found Claimyr.com which got me connected to an agent in about 10 minutes instead of waiting for hours. They have a video showing how it works here: https://youtu.be/TbC8dZQWYNQ. The agent told me this signature issue is happening because the system sometimes fails to sync between the signature page and the main application database. They fixed it on their end right away once I finally got through.

Just checked out that link - did it really work that fast? Did they ask for payment info or anything weird? I'm desperate at this point but wary of random services.

@username5 Yes, it actually worked. They do charge for the service (they're basically a callback system that holds your place in line), but after spending DAYS trying to get through myself, it was worth it. They don't ask for any personal FAFSA info, just your phone number to connect the call. Way better than missing deadlines because of a system glitch!

Thanks for this tip! We're going to try the re-signing process first, but if that doesn't work, we might need to try this service. Our priority deadline is coming up next week!

guys make sure ur using the RIGHT fsa id to sign!!!! i accidentally tried to sign with my moms FSA ID instead of mine and it kept giving me the missing signature error. if u have ur parents FSA ID saved on the same browser it might be auto-filling the wrong one!!!

That's a good point! I'll make sure he's using his own FSA ID when he logs in to sign again. Maybe that's what happened.

One more important tip: After successfully signing, don't immediately close the browser. Wait for at least 30 seconds on the confirmation page to ensure the system fully processes and saves the signature data. We've found this helps prevent the signature from getting lost in the system.

IT WORKED! My son logged in, found the incomplete signature section, and re-signed. We made sure to wait on the confirmation page as suggested. This morning we got the email saying his FAFSA is now complete and being processed! Thank you all for your help!

That's awesome news! So glad the re-signing worked for you. This thread is going to be super helpful for other parents dealing with the same issue. The tip about waiting on the confirmation page seems really important - I'll definitely remember that when I help my younger daughter with her FAFSA next year. Thanks for updating us with the success story!
