FAFSA signature confusion - signed but got another request to sign?

I'm so confused with this FAFSA signature process! Earlier this week I received an email saying I needed to sign my son's 2025-2026 FAFSA form. I logged in, found where to sign, and completed it. The confirmation page said my son would receive an email within 1-3 days to add his signature too. It's been 5 days, and he hasn't gotten anything. Now TODAY I received ANOTHER email telling me I need to sign again! When I log into studentaid.gov, it just shows 'Being Processed' status and there's nothing about signing again. Is the system glitched? Has anyone else dealt with this double signature request problem? I'm worried his application is stuck in limbo somewhere.

same thing happened with my daughter's application last week. the system is totally messed up this year. i signed twice and then got a third email. eventually her app went thru but took like 10 days

10 days?! That's ridiculous. Did your daughter ever get the email to sign her part? My son is checking his spam folder but nothing so far.

This is a common issue with the new FAFSA system. Here's what's happening: The first signature request is for your contribution to the form as a parent. The system then needs to process this before sending the student their signature request. However, there's a known glitch where the system sometimes sends duplicate signature requests to parents. If your portal shows 'Being Processed,' your signature was likely recorded successfully. Your son should receive his signature request within 7-10 business days according to the most recent FSA guidance, not the 1-3 days that was initially communicated. The delays are affecting many families this application cycle.

Yes, unfortunately the processing times have been extended. If you're approaching a school's priority deadline, I recommend contacting the financial aid office directly to let them know about the FAFSA processing delay. Most schools are aware of the systemic issues and are being flexible with their deadlines this year.

I've been dealing with the EXACT same issue!! Signed my part for my twins' FAFSA applications two weeks ago, then got duplicate emails asking me to sign again. When I called the Federal Student Aid hotline, I was on hold for over 2 HOURS before getting disconnected. This is so frustrating when we're trying to meet priority deadlines!

I've had success using Claimyr to get through to an actual FSA agent without the ridiculous wait times. They can check your application status and tell you if your signature was actually recorded or if there's a real problem. Saved me hours of frustration. Their site is claimyr.com and they have a video demo showing how it works: https://youtu.be/TbC8dZQWYNQ

Thanks for the tip! I'll check that out. At this point I'm desperate to talk to someone who can actually see what's happening with our application.

This actually happened with my son's application too. The signature requests seem to be sending out automatically on a schedule even if you've already signed. What fixed it for us was having my son go in and create his FSA ID (if he hasn't already) and then manually checking the status through his account, not just yours. Sometimes the student portal shows different information than the parent portal. Also, double-check that when you signed, you completed all steps and got to a confirmation page that specifically said "Your signature has been recorded" - not just the page saying the student will get an email.

That's helpful! My son does have his FSA ID already, but I'll have him log in and check from his side. I'm pretty sure I got to a confirmation page, but maybe I missed something. The whole system is so confusing compared to when we did my older daughter's FAFSA two years ago.

THE NEW FAFSA SYSTEM IS A COMPLETE DISASTER!!! I work in a college financial aid office and let me tell you, we're seeing these duplicate signature requests CONSTANTLY this year. The Department of Education keeps claiming they've fixed the glitches but they HAVEN'T! My advice: screenshot everything, keep records of when you signed, and if your son doesn't get his email within 10 business days, both of you should try logging in and looking for any alerts or action items in BOTH accounts. And contact your college's financial aid office - we're keeping lists of students with FAFSA technical issues to make sure nobody misses out on aid because of these stupid system problems.

is the SAI calculation also delayed because of this? my daughter got her signature email but we still don't have an SAI score after 3 weeks

Yes, absolutely. The SAI calculations are also significantly delayed. We're seeing 3-4 weeks for SAI calculations even after all signatures are complete. It's a nightmare for everyone involved.

Good point - he's been checking spam but I'll remind him to keep looking there too. Thanks!

Update: The Department of Education just announced yesterday that they're implementing fixes for the duplicate signature request issue. They recommended that if you've already signed successfully (got to the final confirmation page), you can disregard any additional signature request emails for the next 14 days while they update their system. If your application shows "Being Processed" in the parent portal, that's a good sign that your signature was received. The student signature request emails are definitely taking longer than the original 1-3 day estimate - closer to 7-10 business days currently.

Thank you so much for this update! That makes me feel better. I'll just sit tight and wait for my son to get his signature email then. Appreciate the help from everyone!
