FAFSA form won't let me add financial/tax info before signature page - do I submit anyway?
I'm about to throw my laptop out the window! I've been trying for DAYS to complete my daughter's 2025-2026 FAFSA application but it keeps skipping the financial/tax information section completely. Every time I try to edit or review, it jumps straight to the signature page. When I review the application, there's literally NOTHING showing up for our tax information section! I've called the Federal Student Aid help center twice (waited 2+ hours each time) and also contacted my daughter's financial aid office, but nobody seems to understand what I'm asking. Am I missing something obvious? Is there a special button or section I need to click? If I just sign and submit with the tax section empty, will they notify me later that I need to correct it? Or will they just reject her application entirely? My daughter's scholarship eligibility depends on this and I'm honestly at my breaking point. Has anyone else dealt with this glitch?

This exact same thing happened to me last month!! The new FAFSA system is completely broken. I ended up just submitting it without the tax info and got an email 3 days later saying I needed to make corrections. At least then I could actually SEE the tax section. Total waste of time.

•Thanks for responding! So after you submitted, did they give you clear instructions on how to add the missing tax information? Did it affect your SAI score calculation timeline?

There's actually a known issue with the form right now for certain browsers. What browser are you using? I found that Firefox works better than Chrome for the tax section. Also, try clearing your cache and cookies before logging in again. If that doesn't work, try clicking on the "Financial Information" tab directly rather than using the "Continue" button.

•I'm using Safari! I'll try Firefox instead and clear my cache. Is there a specific "Financial Information" tab? All I see is "Review" and "Sign & Submit" at the top navigation.

You might need to start a brand new application. I had to do that when mine kept skipping sections. I think sometimes the database gets corrupted or something. It's super annoying but starting fresh fixed it for me.

•Oh no, I've already spent hours on the demographic info and school selections! But if that's what it takes, I guess I'll try starting over. Did you lose all your previous work when you started fresh?

•That's exactly what I'm afraid of! Did you eventually get it sorted out? How long did the whole process take?

I work in a college financial aid office, and we're seeing this issue frequently with the 2025-2026 FAFSA. There are two possible solutions: 1. If you linked your IRS data through the Data Retrieval Tool (DRT), the information may actually be there even though you can't see it in the review section. This is a display glitch, not a data glitch. 2. If you didn't use the DRT or if you're certain the information isn't being captured, DO NOT SUBMIT YET. Instead, log out completely, wait 24 hours, then try again using a different browser. If neither works, call the Federal Student Aid Information Center at 1-800-433-3243 and specifically ask for a tier 2 representative who can help with "FAFSA financial information section bypass errors." Using those exact terms helps get you to someone who understands this specific issue.

•Thank you so much for this detailed explanation! I did try to use the DRT but it gave me an error saying "unable to authenticate tax information" even though I triple-checked all numbers. I'll try waiting 24 hours and using Firefox instead. The specific language for the phone call is extremely helpful!

I had this issue too but I just submitted it anyways. Big mistake. Took forever to fix. The hotline is useless - I spent like 4 hours on hold and kept getting disconnected. Someone in another thread mentioned this service called Claimyr that got them through to an actual FSA agent in minutes instead of hours. I tried it (claimyr.com) and it worked! You can see how it works in their video demo: https://youtu.be/TbC8dZQWYNQ When I finally talked to the agent, they manually overrode something in my application that let me access the tax section. Might be worth trying if you get stuck like I did.

I HATE THE NEW FAFSA!!!! I've been trying to help my twins with their applications and nothing works right! Wasted 2 weekends already and their priority deadline is next month. The Department of Education should be ASHAMED of releasing such a buggy system when students' futures depend on this!!!

•PREACH!!! The old system wasn't perfect but at least it WORKED. This new one is a complete disaster. My kid might miss out on a $14,000 scholarship because of these glitches.

Update: The Department of Education just released a patch yesterday addressing this specific issue. If you're still experiencing the problem, try these exact steps: 1. Clear browser cache and cookies 2. Log out of your account completely 3. Wait at least 1 hour (system refresh cycle time) 4. Log back in using a supported browser (Firefox or Edge recommended) 5. Go directly to your saved application 6. Look for a new button labeled "Update Financial Information" on the main application menu If you still don't see this option, then unfortunately you may need to contact them directly. The patch is being rolled out gradually to all accounts.

•Thank you for this update! I just checked and I DO see the "Update Financial Information" button now! It wasn't there yesterday. So relieved I might be able to fix this without starting over or spending more hours on hold.

Did you fill out the Contributor section correctly? My application skipped the tax section because I messed up something in the Contributor section. Had to add myself as a contributor even though I'm the parent filling it out. Makes zero sense but that's FAFSA for you.

•Hmm, I did add myself as a contributor and filled in my basic info like SSN and birthdate. Did you have to do anything specific in that section to make the tax part appear?

UPDATE: I finally got it fixed!! For anyone else with this problem, here's what worked: 1. I used Firefox instead of Safari 2. Cleared all cookies/cache 3. Found the new "Update Financial Information" button on the main application page 4. Had to re-verify my identity with FSA ID 5. THEN I could finally see and fill out the tax information section! Now waiting for the SAI calculation. Thank you everyone for your help - this community saved my sanity!

•Great to hear you got it working! Just a heads-up that SAI calculations seem to be taking about 7-10 days right now because of all the system issues. If your daughter needs her SAI score for scholarship applications, you might want to contact those programs and explain the FAFSA delays - many are extending deadlines because of these widespread problems.

•Perfect! And just to help others: if you used the Data Retrieval Tool successfully, your SAI calculation should be faster (3-5 days). If you manually entered tax information, it might take 7-10 days as mentioned. Remember that the SAI score (Student Aid Index) replaces the old EFC and works a bit differently for aid calculations.

As someone who just went through this nightmare with my own kid's FAFSA, I feel your pain! The browser switching advice is spot on - I had to abandon Chrome completely. One thing that helped me was using the FAFSA mobile app as a backup to check if my information was actually being saved even when the desktop version wasn't displaying it properly. Sometimes the data was there, just not visible on the review page. Also, if you're still having issues after trying Firefox, consider doing the application during off-peak hours (early morning or late evening) when the servers aren't as overloaded. The system seems more stable then. Fingers crossed the "Update Financial Information" button solves it for you!
