FAFSA keeps rejecting my parental approval despite submitting it multiple times

I'm about to lose my mind with this FAFSA nonsense! I've approved my information on my daughter's 2025-2026 FAFSA application THREE SEPARATE TIMES over the past week, but every time she logs in, it still shows that I haven't completed my part. I've gotten confirmation emails each time saying "Your approval has been submitted successfully" but clearly something isn't working. I've triple-checked that I'm using the correct FSA ID, verified all my tax information, and even called their support line but got disconnected after waiting 45 minutes. Has anyone else dealt with this glitch? Is there some trick to making the system actually register that I've completed my portion? My daughter's college priority deadline is coming up and I'm panicking that she'll miss out on aid because of this stupid technical problem.

Really? The confirmation emails said the approval was immediate. Why would they say that if it takes 24 hours? I'll check again tomorrow, but this is so frustrating!

This is actually a known issue with the new 2025-2026 FAFSA system, especially when there's high traffic volume. A few things to check: 1. Make sure you're approving the correct application year (2025-2026) 2. Verify you've completed ALL sections - sometimes one question gets missed 3. Try using a different browser or clearing your cache 4. Check if your daughter needs to take an additional step to "accept" your contribution information If all those fail, you need to contact Federal Student Aid directly to have them manually verify your submission. Unfortunately, their phone lines are overwhelmed right now with the new system rollout.

Thank you! I've definitely checked 1-3 multiple times. I don't see anything about her needing to "accept" my contribution - where would that be? I'll have her log in and look for that option.

I work at a college financial aid office, and this issue has been affecting about 30% of our applicants this cycle. The most common fix is having the student go to the "Parent/Contributor" section and click the "Refresh Status" button. It's not obvious, but it's there in the bottom corner of that screen. If that doesn't work, there might be a mismatch between the parent's SSN on their FSA ID account and what was entered on the application.

UGH the same EXACT thing happened to me!! I tried 6 TIMES!!! and my son's financial aid was delayed by 3 weeks because of this stupid glitch. FAFSA is a MESS this year with all their "improvements" that just broke everything. I'm convinced nobody at the Department of Education has ever actually tried to use their own system. 🤬

Oh no, that's terrifying! Did you ever get it resolved? What eventually worked? I'm worried this is going to delay her whole application process.

I had to go full KAREN and call them every day for a week before I got through to someone who actually fixed it. They had to manually approve my section from their end. Completely ridiculous process.

I've helped dozens of families through FAFSA issues this year, and this specific problem usually stems from one of three things: 1. The parent and student FSA IDs are somehow linked incorrectly (most common) 2. There's a small discrepancy in the personal information (like a middle initial in one place but not another) 3. The parent completed everything except the final electronic signature step The most reliable fix I've found is to have the parent log in again, go to the "Review & Submit" tab, scroll ALL the way to the bottom, and check for any small yellow warning icons. Even if it says you've completed everything, there might be a final confirmation checkbox that was missed.

Thank you for the detailed advice! I just checked again and you're right - there was a tiny yellow icon near the electronic signature section. I thought I had signed it each time, but apparently it wasn't saving properly. Just tried again with a different browser and got a different confirmation screen this time, so hopefully it worked!

I had this exact same problem and spent HOURS trying to fix it. After trying everything mentioned here and still having issues, I finally used Claimyr.com to get through to a FAFSA agent directly. They have this service where they wait on hold for you and then call you when an actual human agent is on the line. Saved me so much frustration! The agent was able to see that my approval was actually in their system but wasn't showing up on my daughter's end due to a synchronization error. They fixed it on the spot. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/TbC8dZQWYNQ

is that service legit? sounds kinda sketchy tbh

Yeah it's legitimate. I was skeptical too but I was desperate after trying for 2 weeks to get through. It's just a call service that waits on hold for you. The actual conversation with FAFSA is still directly between you and them.

Thank you for this suggestion! If my latest attempt doesn't work, I'll definitely look into it. At this point I'd try anything to get this resolved.

Typical government incompetence. They had THREE YEARS to prepare this new system and it's still complete garbage. My daughter missed out on a $5000 scholarship because of delays caused by FAFSA problems. Make sure to document EVERYTHING - every submission, every confirmation email, every phone call attempt. You might need it later to appeal if she misses any deadlines.

That's horrible about your daughter's scholarship! I've been taking screenshots of everything, including the confirmation emails. Really hope it doesn't come to that.

Quick update for everyone dealing with this issue: FSA just released a statement acknowledging the parent approval synchronization problem. They're implementing a fix this weekend. If you've submitted multiple approvals, the system should update correctly by Monday morning. No need to resubmit again if you've already done it multiple times.

Thank you for the update! That's actually a huge relief to hear they're aware of the problem. I'll wait until Monday before trying anything else then.

Just to add to this - I can confirm this is accurate. Our office received the same notification about the weekend maintenance to fix the parent approval synchronization bugs. The system should be working properly after Sunday night.

This is such a relief to read! I'm a parent going through the exact same nightmare right now - I've submitted my approval 4 times over the past two weeks and my son keeps telling me it's still showing as incomplete on his end. I was starting to think I was losing my mind! The confirmation emails made it seem like everything was working fine. Thank you to everyone who shared their experiences and especially to Sofia for the update about the weekend fix. It's frustrating that this is such a widespread issue, but at least now I know it's not something I'm doing wrong. Fingers crossed the system actually works properly after Monday!
