FAFSA keeps sending emails about missing info despite being processed - school hasn't received anything!
I swear I'm about to LOSE IT with this FAFSA nightmare!!! My daughter's application has been a complete disaster and I'm at my wit's end. Every other day (literally) I get another email saying something else is missing from her application. Yesterday it was parent tax info, today it's verification of household size?? I finally got someone on the online chat at studentaid.gov after waiting FOREVER and they claimed her application was fully processed on 4/12. But guess what? Her college financial aid office says they haven't received ANYTHING, and these stupid emails keep coming!!! Is the system completely broken this year or what? Has anyone else dealt with this disconnect between what FAFSA says is processed and what the school actually receives? I'm seriously concerned she's going to miss priority deadlines because of this mess.

•Have you gotten any resolution? I'm afraid to call because I'll probably be on hold for 3 hours just to get disconnected...

This is a known issue with the 2024-2025 FAFSA rollout. What's happening is that your application is technically processed in the Federal Student Aid system, but there's a delay in the transmission to schools. The emails are automated and often don't sync up with the actual status. Here's what you should do: 1. Log into studentaid.gov and check your SAI (Student Aid Index) - if you see that, it means processing is complete 2. Print/save a PDF of your processed application summary 3. Email your daughter's financial aid office with this PDF and her FAFSA confirmation number 4. Ask them to check if they can manually pull her FAFSA from the federal system Many schools are being flexible with deadlines because of these widespread FAFSA issues. Don't panic yet!

•Thank you!!! I'll check for the SAI right now. I didn't even think to send proof to the school directly. This whole process is so much more complicated than when I went to college.

I work in a college financial aid office, and we're seeing this constantly. The new FAFSA system has massive communication problems between the Federal Student Aid system and college systems. One clarification to the above advice - don't just check for an SAI. Make sure you can see the actual SAI *number* (it replaced the old EFC). If you just see "processed" but no SAI calculation, it means it's still not fully complete. Also, those emails are often triggered by corrections or updates to your application, even minor ones the system makes automatically. Each time anything changes, a new set of emails can go out. Call your daughter's financial aid office directly. We can often manually retrieve FAFSA data even when the automated systems aren't sending it properly.

•Thank you so much! I found the SAI number ($7,492) so I guess that means it actually is processed. I'll call the school tomorrow and let them know. Do you know if there's any way to stop these annoying emails?

I had this EXACT problem with my twins' FAFSAs. Kept getting emails about missing signature even though I could see it was processed. Turns out there was a glitch where if you used a saved parent profile from a previous year, it sometimes doesn't fully transfer all verification data correctly. Tried calling FSA for THREE DAYS and couldn't get through - constant busy signals or disconnects after 45+ minute holds. Finally used a service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that held my place in line and got me connected to an actual FSA agent in about 20 minutes. The agent manually fixed whatever was causing the emails and confirmed everything was actually processed correctly. You can see how it works in their demo: https://youtu.be/TbC8dZQWYNQ The agent also gave me a confirmation code I could give to the school financial aid office to prove it was processed. Worth trying if you can't get through on your own!

•is that service legit? sounds kinda sketchy to have someone else call about ur financial info

•They don't actually talk to the FSA people for you - they just hold your place in line and call you when they have an agent on the line, then you talk directly to the FSA agent yourself. So they never hear any of your personal info.

•Just to clarify - no one has "gotten their money" yet for 2024-2025. Financial aid disbursements for the upcoming academic year don't happen until just before classes start (usually August). What some students may have received is their financial aid package or award letter, which is different from actually receiving funds.

I was having the same issue with my daughter's FAFSA for weeks! What finally worked for us was having the school's financial aid office submit a "correction" to her FAFSA even though nothing actually needed correcting. Somehow this forced the system to acknowledge that yes, her application was complete, and stopped the emails about missing information. It seems like this year's FAFSA rollout has been a technical disaster. My daughter's financial aid counselor told me they're seeing these glitches with about 30% of applications. Apparently the new "Better FAFSA" system has more bugs than a summer campground. Definitely call or email your daughter's school directly. Many of them have developed workarounds for these common FAFSA issues, and most are extending their priority deadlines because of the federal-level problems.

•More bugs than a summer" campground 😂'That s exactly how it feels! Thanks for the suggestion about having the school submit a correction -'I ll ask about that too when I callthem.

One additional thing to check - login to studentaid.gov, go to your daughter's FAFSA, and check if there's a "Status Hold" indicator. Sometimes the system flags applications for verification or identity confirmation but doesn't clearly communicate this. If you see this, it means a human needs to review something before it's fully processed, regardless of what the chat agent told you. Also, make sure your daughter authorized the specific school on her FAFSA. Sometimes people assume the schools automatically get it, but she needs to have explicitly listed each school's code in her application.

•I just checked and there's no hold status that I can see. And yes, we definitely added her school - it's the only one she applied to, so we triple-checked that part! I'm going to try calling the financial aid office tomorrow morning and see if they can pull it manually like someone suggested.

Update from my financial aid office: As of yesterday (5/2), Federal Student Aid has acknowledged system-wide issues with notifications and school transmission. They're working on fixes, but in the meantime, they've advised schools that we can accept screenshots of the processed SAI as temporary verification until the system catches up. So definitely take screenshots of your daughter's processed application showing the SAI and send those to her school's financial aid office. Most institutions are being very flexible with deadlines this year because these problems are happening nationwide.

•Thank you SO MUCH for this update! I just took screenshots of everything including the SAI number and emailed them to her school. Fingers crossed this resolves things!

I'm going through the exact same thing right now! My FAFSA shows processed with an SAI, but my school's financial aid office says they haven't received it yet. The constant emails about "missing information" are so frustrating when everything appears to be complete on my end. I'm a first-generation college student so this whole process is already overwhelming, and these technical issues are making it so much worse. Reading through all these responses is actually really reassuring - at least I know it's not just me! I'm going to try emailing my school's financial aid office with screenshots of my processed application like everyone suggested. Has anyone had success with that approach yet? Really hoping they can pull it manually from their end because I'm worried about missing deadlines too.

•Hey Emma! I totally understand how overwhelming this is, especially as a first-gen student. The good news is that based on what @Chloe Boulanger shared, schools are being really flexible with deadlines this year because of these widespread FAFSA issues. If you have your SAI showing, you re'in good shape - that means it really is processed on the federal side. Definitely email those screenshots to your financial aid office ASAP. From what others have said here, many schools can manually pull the data even when the automated system isn t'working. You ve'got this! And don t'hesitate to call them too if you don t'hear back quickly - they re'used to dealing with these issues right now.

This thread has been so helpful! I'm dealing with the exact same issue - FAFSA shows processed with an SAI but my son's college hasn't received it, plus those never-ending emails about "missing" info. Based on all the advice here, I'm going to: 1. Take screenshots of the processed application with SAI 2. Email them directly to the financial aid office 3. Call them tomorrow to see if they can manually pull the data It's actually really comforting to know this is a widespread system issue and not something I did wrong. The "Better FAFSA" definitely feels more like the "Buggy FAFSA" this year! Thanks everyone for sharing your experiences and solutions - this community is a lifesaver during such a stressful process.

•This is exactly the plan I'm following too! I've been lurking on this thread because I'm dealing with the same nightmare. My daughter's FAFSA has been "processed" for weeks but her school keeps saying they don't have it, meanwhile I'm getting bombarded with emails every few days about different "missing" items. It's so stressful when you're trying to make sure everything is done right for your kid's future. Really glad to see I'm not alone in this mess and that there are actual solutions people have found that work. Going to screenshot everything tonight and get it sent over tomorrow morning. Fingers crossed the financial aid office can sort this out quickly!
