FAFSA application disappeared after parent signature - now saying no application exists?
I'm about to lose my mind with this FAFSA process! Finally managed to electronically sign my daughter's FAFSA form yesterday (took forever because of the new FSA ID verification issues). Then she logged in today to add her colleges to the application, and the system is telling her she doesn't have an application on file! HOW IS THAT POSSIBLE?? We spent hours getting all the tax information entered correctly. So she had to start a completely new application, and now it's asking ME to fill out the parent contribution section all over again. Has anyone else had their FAFSA application completely vanish from the system after signing? This is such a nightmare and her priority deadline is in 3 weeks!

•Did you end up having to submit a completely new application? I'm wondering if there's any way to recover the original one so we don't have to redo everything.

This is a known issue with the new FAFSA system. The application isn't actually gone - there's a sync issue between the student and parent portals. What you need to do is: 1. Both of you log out completely 2. Have your daughter log in first 3. Instead of trying to create a new application, have her go to "Manage My FSA ID" and verify all her information is correct 4. Then check the "Application Status" section, not the "Start New Application" section If that doesn't work, there's an option to view processing applications which sometimes shows applications that appear to be missing from the main dashboard.

•Thank you so much! We'll try these steps tonight. I'm really hoping we don't have to re-enter all that tax information again. The W-2 manual entry alone took forever.

Urgh I've been dealing with FAFSA issues for THREE WEEKS now!! First they couldn't verify my identity, then my daughter's SAI calculation was wrong, and now we're stuck in verification hell. The whole system is broken and they expect us to just deal with it while college deadlines approach. I'm so sick of it!!

I had this exact problem. The FAFSA system is experiencing major technical issues since the rollout of the simplified FAFSA. From my experience, there are two possibilities: 1. Your application is still in the system but there's a display glitch where it's not showing up in your daughter's portal. 2. There was a sync error when you completed your signature, and the application is actually still waiting for your signature (even though you completed it). Critical: Do NOT submit another application yet. Having duplicate applications can cause major processing delays and might even flag you for verification. You need to speak with an actual FSA agent to resolve this. I recommend using Claimyr (claimyr.com) to get through to an agent quickly - they helped me bypass the hold times when I was dealing with my son's missing application. There's a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/TbC8dZQWYNQ Once you talk to an agent, ask them to check if there's a pending application in their system under your daughter's FSA ID. They can often see applications that aren't showing up in the portal.

•Oh thank you for the warning about creating duplicates! We already started a new one but haven't submitted it. I'll check out that service - at this point I'd do anything to avoid more hours on hold.

Have you checked both studentaid.gov accounts? Sometimes the parent and student sides get out of sync. Log into your account and see if the application shows as "waiting for student signature" even though your daughter already signed it. The system sometimes gets confused about which signatures it has and hasn't received. Also, make sure you're both using the exact same information (SSN, DOB, full legal name) as what's on your tax returns. Any tiny discrepancy can cause the system to fail to link the applications properly.

•That's a good point - I'll check my parent portal too. We were very careful with the information, but maybe there was a small typo somewhere. The system is so unforgiving with even minor mistakes.

After you get this sorted out, make sure to print out confirmation pages for EVERYTHING. Screenshot completed applications, confirmation numbers, submission receipts - all of it. The new FAFSA is having so many glitches that documentation is your only protection. My daughter's application mysteriously changed her college list twice after submission!

•Great advice. I wish I'd done that before, but definitely will going forward. This whole process has been so much more difficult than when I applied for aid years ago.

Just following up - were you able to recover your daughter's application? If you still can't see it, call the Federal Student Aid Information Center at 1-800-433-3243. Sometimes they can see applications in the system that aren't showing up in your portal due to the technical issues.

•Still working on it - we tried your suggestions but it's still not showing up. Been trying that number for two days but keep getting disconnected after 30+ minutes on hold. Going to try that Claimyr service someone mentioned to see if we can actually reach a person.

•Yes! I did sign on my phone! I wonder if that's the issue. Did you have to submit a new application or did they recover the original one?

@OP - After you get this resolved, immediately save a PDF copy of the entire submitted application and take screenshots of your confirmation page with the confirmation number. Trust me on this - with all the system issues, having your own documentation can save you if the application mysteriously changes or disappears again. Also, once submitted, have your daughter check her Student Aid Index (SAI) calculation (what used to be the EFC) to make sure it looks reasonable based on your financial situation. If it seems wildly off, request a review immediately rather than waiting.

•Update: Finally got this resolved! For anyone facing similar issues - it turns out our application WAS still in the system, but had gotten stuck in a weird state because I signed on mobile. The FSA agent was able to find it and reset the signature requirement. We didn't have to redo everything after all! Definitely saving PDFs of everything now.
